I got my L4 for under $10K last july and have put 35,000km in a year of ownership. Mainly on Shinko 705 and 804/805 tires which are 70/30 and 40/60 ratio respectively. It can and will go off-road and high mileage V-strom owners are a testament to it. There are L4 with over 150.000km and L6 (same as the rider above) with 130, 000km on the bike in Singapore. Works in the rain, flood, sun, sand, mud, gravel and single track. Where a GS can't go, a V-strom can provided that the rider is willing. One of the best things about it is the ease in corners as my footpeg's feelers are completely flattened from excessive grinding. 16 hr days no problem, 6000km per month no failure. All it needs is chain when loose, tires when bald, brake pads when it screeches, Ron 92 when its empty and a rider when its up and running. Parts are cheaper than what people are accustomed to, maintenance can be spread apart further if rider is sensible with the use and abuse. Aftermarket is specific and dedicated not frivolous and confusing like GS, 1290/1190, AT or the Tigers. One of the more knowledgeable rider on youtube is Ryan of Fortnine and he had a lovestory with the 2014 DL1000 years ago. th-cam.com/video/M8r9d8ZAh8I/w-d-xo.html

Suzuki’s are underrated. Cheaper than the rest , yet almost 80% on par in terms of performance. Top marks for reliability.
Technology wise tbh Suzuki is outrated
