When do you quit?

  • I wanted to share with you an honest, vulnerable and true story. As an entrepreneur, we all have big plans, me included. But there are always things or plans that are not successful. And normally we don't show them, or we don't talk about it. But I share a personal story with you and I hope you can learn from it. In this video I'll tell you why I decided to stop my CX Leadership Retreat for this year.
On February 17, 2024, I was walking on the Via Francigena. While I enjoyed the view and being out there in Italy, suddenly a thought hit me. When was the last time I actually walked here? For over a year I didn't walk. Pretty painful, as I love to be out on the pilgrim's path. I found out that actually for more than a half year I had sold every day I had to give. And I love my job, I love speaking, educating and volunteering for the CXPA, but I found myself in the CX hamster wheel. And that didn't make me a nicer person. I wanted more time for my family and myself.
So, at that moment, I just sat down on a really big rock and thought: what should I do different? In my head I went through my agenda, and I thought, wow, this is a lot of work I've already taken on. I want to be there for my mom, for me, want to walking. Something needed to go out. And then I realized: it needs to be the CX Leader Retreat. It was just too much extra work and efforts. The realization hit me. And it was a BIG decision. But also the insight: sometimes we need to know when to say NO. When to quit.
So, that's also a question for you: what are things that you might be doing, that you don't want to do anymore? Or don't give the energy that you thought they would give? You are allowed to stop things. Maybe you have to give back a CX project or maybe you have to stop something.
I read the book 'Quit - Knowing when to walk away' by Annie Duke. A must read if you struggle with saying no, leaving things behind you or choosing a different path. In this video I'll share my personal story and I hope it'll inspire you. If you know when to quit or when to say no, your life becomes easier. It becomes more of YOUR life. Good luck!
