We can appreciate that someone is trying to think out of the box. However, to make advanced level education a job qualification, a comprehensive and long-term approach is necessary. This involves equalizing educational opportunities by investing in infrastructure, training teachers, and providing resources to under-resourced schools. Curriculum reform should focus on integrating practical skills, collaborating with industries, emphasizing STEM subjects, and developing soft skills. Implementing these changes gradually at least over 5 to 10 years with continuous monitoring and policy support is crucial. Engaging the community and raising public awareness will build support for the new educational approaches. The German dual education system serves as a useful model, highlighting the benefits of early career preparation and strong industry links. In Sri Lanka, expanding the technology stream to more schools through policy advocacy, pilot programs, and public-private partnerships can enhance job-oriented education. By adopting these strategies, countries can prepare students for the future job market while ensuring a balanced and inclusive education system.
