Someone needs to find a civil judge who has been sympathetic to squatters, wait until he goes on vacation and squat in his house! See how he likes it and maybe this will help the laws get changed.

These laws must be amended and strengthened. Because you imagine you take a vacation and become homeless 🤔 that's not the United States. Let's see if Congress gets to work and reviews those miserable property laws in every state. Because Laws definitely have to be enforced.

This is a state issue, and as such, it needs to be handled by the state legislation and governor's.

I rented a room to a young woman,,, who did not have custody of her 2 children. Her mom answered an ad that I placed on an app,,, ( NEXTDOOR)
The nightmare that followed,,, I do not wish on anyone. Court/ eviction/ fear/ kids being prisoners inside that little room,,, CPS, got involved. And thankfully after 5 months,,, got her out and got the children that she was hiding. 😢

Thank you, FLASH!!! I remember his first video from years ago at his Mom's house. I'm SO thankful to see these guys go in & help the homeowners. Most of us have ALL of our life savings in only 1 or 2 houses, & the fact that entitled humans abuse us homeowners like that because they want "Free stuff" that other people worked their whole lives for it disgusts me. I heard last year about a Man who had to leave his home for a short amount of time for something like a family emergency. Came back & squatters took over his home. Nobody would help them. He, his wife & CHILDREN had to LIVE in their CAR nearby while trying to fight the squatters with no money to do it with. It was heartbreaking!!!!

Having looked for a rental, I just want you to know that there is a major scam for potential tenants. You find an ad for an apartment or house, at a very low rent, and you contact the advertiser about looking at the property. The story for them “I am out of town right now, but feel free to go and look at the outside of the property.” “If you like it, you can send me the deposit, and I will send you the keys”. Oh and “ I really like you and would like you to be my tenant, God Bless!” as you end conversation. I have been on the other end also, where my employer had a small house for rent, directly across the street from the business. Consequently, I noticed a vehicle at the house, so I pulled in and asked if I could help them. They then explained that they were interested in the property, that they had seen on Craigslist. They then showed me the ads. The fraudulent ad was using the photos from an ad that my employer had posted, but at a greatly reduced rent. I can see how an empty house could become a squatting situation without the tenant even knowing that they have been duped.

Because it acts as a camouflage over the actual homeless crisis taking place. They're able to get a fairly decent number of homeless off the street for months at a time. They don't care about the homeowners because they assume they can afford the legal process necessary to regain control of their property. They would ONLY CARE if it actually happened to them personally.
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they were (politicians or other advocates on the left etc) actually encouraging homeless people (those capable enough to do so) to go and become a squatter

BUT so is far too many corporations and even individuals that are buying up single family homes for INVESTMENTS
We have a massive shortage of single family homes in the US and until that is mitigated, buying multiple homes needs to be outlawed
You want to buy land, fine
You want to buy commercial real estate, fine
You want to buy apartment buildings etc, fine

When my husband passed away my 13-year-old son and myself inherited a RV park that he owned in Georgia. Customers would sometimes come and say they wanted to stay a month or two pay the first months rent and pick out a lot or I would’ve assigned them a lot and then they wouldn’t pay any more rent after that. In the beginning for me,the law used to come and tell them they had to leave and take their camper if they were not gonna pay rent, then the people would leave with their camper or RV, but within a year after my husband passed and I was running the RV park I would have to call the law they would tell him to leave, and the people would say no that they had been living there that they were paying rent and they would get me the money for the next months rent when they had it. All the sudden one cop said they knew everything about the law and instead of telling these squatters to leave, he would say oh well OK she’ll have to go to get evicted RV park. Renting a lot for a camper or RV on wheels is not the same as renting a house or a apartment was treated like that before legally but then all of a sudden the courts realize they were missing out on the money it cost for evictions so they told me I had to start filing for evictions and so now not only did it cost me the loss of the electricity and water they were using and rent from someone who would actually pay their rent but cost myself and my son the court cost. it was horrible.

In Texas I’ve seen a full on squatter situation on my street in an upper class neighborhood. A family moved in a home when empty between tenants and when confronted legally by police presented a fraudulent lease. 6months later, the homeowner spent thousands to have the courts force them to leave. Texas is NOT immune to this situation and our laws aren’t strong enough yet. It’s even more concerning with the rise in homelessness and the flood of illegal immigration. People desperate for housing at any cost with nothing to lose are willing to take legal chances at a home owner’s expense.

We have a relative who passed away in San Fran California. She had 2 tenants but they had no lease. They told us when she passed they would not leave until someone paid them to leave. As if someone owes them something. As she passed quickly, thinking family would not make it there in time as we live in different state. Tried to claim they were her executor per my aunt. I still have that note It's out of control. I can give you contact information on 2 squatters. One of them drives a Tesla. In our case property inside is in pretty ruff shape and she had a reverse mortgage. So reverse mortgage seems to think they have a plan to deal with this and we are planning to just allow them to.

Regarding the stat of the number of squatters in the world. The definition is very broad and includes millions upon millions of people who are penniless, who were born penniless and will die penniless who of course live somewhere so therefore they are squatters. This is completely different than the definition here in America. Hope this helps understand this enormous number quoted.

The problem with civil matters is the person who is being the criminal doesn’t have a pot to piss in and the person that is victimized has to pay to go to court to get a judge to say yeah you’re right and then there’s no one to help you still go get your property. I had this happen with a person that kept my car. I won in small claims court so I had a document that said indeed that’s my car. Oh wait, I already had the car registration that said it’s my car. It basically kept me from getting arrested when I went and took the car back and emptied all their stuff out onto the sidewalk.

Even a family member. I believe that this will go a long way in protecting the citizens as the police would know for certain who is allowed to live there so if reported, they can arrest the squatters the same day.
