Very interesting that Colombán went to Carnac !
People often forget that these Irish monks were not Roman Catholic, but in fact Celtic Christian monks.
They were the antithesis of the Roman Catholic hierarchical structure. The Celtic Christian monks operated a decentralised monastic structure based upon the Coptic monasticism of St. Anthony and the Apostle Mark.

Thanks Fionán, glad you are enjoying the series. Columban embraced travel/permanent exile as a an almost sacred obligation, a form of martyrdom. He was an amazing man at a difficult moment in our history. We owe you Irish a great debt! blessings to you and peace, Henry

Loud music makes it difficult to hear the commentary. That’s sad as it is so good

Glad you enjoyed it! I just saw your other comment in the side bar this morning but cannot actually find it to reply to. So I will do it here. Wow, that lecture is in depth man! I think the post-exilic prophetic literature is a gold mine for us as we negotiate the minefield of modern political life.

Yes, we'd like to go back too. I never got to visit St Gildas either, or to really sniff around the San Columban village for a cashel wall etc. We were so tired that day.... and had no coffee, my mind just wasn't on the ball. In fact, the rather abrupt cut on the beach at the end was because I said ' need to find somewhere with some coffee'!!! lessons learned!

Thanks for watching Gary. In the saving Europe book I quoted Sigmund freud saying that the Irish were the only people who could not be psychoanalysed. That takes a certain type of genius! God bless, Henry Vyner-Brooks Vyner-Brooks

This is great but find the music so distracting when there is talking.

Sorry about that, it was really a first effort in sound mixing...and it does get better in later episodes if you can stick with it. anyway, many thanks for taking the time to watch. best regards Henry
