  • Bob provides you with some drywall tips as he repairs a hole in a ceiling right next to a pendant light.
This woman purchased this brand-new home only to realize that the single light above her kitchen island was not centered. She hired an electrician to replace the single can light with three pendant lights, leaving a hole in her ceiling.
This was a great opportunity for Bob to not only show Kitana what steps are necessary in order to perform a patch like this, but also a great opportunity to share the steps with all of you watching from home.
This video is only 11 minutes long, but it contains some valuable information that will help you understand the steps necessary in order to do a really nice job.
The paint didn’t dry in time for me to take a final photo or video of the project as it looks today and so don’t judge me for the paint looking like it does not match, lol; the paint was provided by the homeowner so it was a perfect match once it dried.
Some of the items used in this video are listed below should you decide to purchase them.
    10” drywall knife - amzn.to/2TYspMY
Stainless steel drywall mud pan 13” - amzn.to/3xCPZgP
Carpet and Floor drying fan - amzn.to/3AVu2fc
    OSMO Action cam - amzn.to/2TQQPrR
    Thanks for watching,
    Have a great day,
    Bob

Ah yes, the mess that electricians leave behind. Last summer my electrician left numerous holes in the ceilings. He attempted to patch them by using only drywall pieces without any plywood backing. There were gaps of one-half inch or more. I had to completely redo everything. Great tips!

Even a 1/2” gap can be filled with Durabond and taped.

@@BobsHomeServicesLLC If I showed you pictures, you would understand why I had to redo everything. The electrician had only one screw holding two sandwiched drywall pieces. A carpenter, he is not!!

    Great work!
I do something similar when it comes to drywall repairs. I like to do 2 coats of 20 mud and one skim coat of all purpose compound for easy sand. I didn’t know that you can do a drywall repair all in 1 day.
Did you use 20 compound for all your repairs

I use 5 min mud to prefill my seams that I intentionally tapered and 5 min to set the tape. I blow warm air at the repair and depending on the size of the repair I use either 5 or 20 min mud.
Using hot water in the mud makes the fast setting compounds cure faster.
You can sand the fast setting compounds with a palm sander and 120 grit.
      Cheers,
      Bob
