Loggeraaron - Do like I did - go back to about 0:40 and listen again up to about 1:40. "Cherry red" - that hardens the steel ; LISTEN to the sound that the file makes as it crosses the steel - if the file makes no sound, the steel is hardened, but if you hear the file digging in to the steel, it's not hardened. One thing i wish i wouldve started earlier is learning how to mirror my use of a flat and round file on my left hand. Now im way more consistant than inwas in my 20s. Great video

I will add one thing to this, the Oregon raker gauge tool is much easier to use with your dominant hand than the carlton style flat raker gauges. the westcoastsaw and carlton and husqvarna all require me to either awkwardly file the off side or else file the off aide left-handed which i dont find pleasing. the Oregon serves me better, but each to their own.
I dont like the flat husqvarna, carlton, or any other raker gauges because i have to use them awkwardly for the off side, or else file one side rakers left handed. but each to their own.
@@timberfallingcouple if you run your file down towards your tip instead of straight across you can get both sides done, one handed. Quick and mc easy. Nothing wrong with the scenic route tho

I did it the hard way back in the day. I just counted the same amount of strokes for each raker. Your way seems faster. 😊

Do you have spacers behind the bar?
Yeah I actually used pop bottle lids for the spacers.
I don't use a gauge, I guess I'm dumb.
I like 30 thousandths off a new chain then file as needed
