    Snap on reminds me of antiques. People used to pay large sums of money investing in furniture because it will always be worth money and could go up. Fast forward and other companies figured out how to do it better and for less. Now their furniture is worth next to nothing.

      I respectfully disagree with you. Snap on tools will always have high resale value, cheap tools are not a new thing, and as for made better than Matco or Snapon you are flat out wrong. If you earn money with tools it pays to have quality tools. I've had the same Snap on tools for 35 years, and they are all in great condition.

      Chris, I own 5 Bullets - N8300, HD9400, 1755 Tradesman, 400S, and a C2. A restored Bullet is not inexpensive, as you mention. If you cruise CL - gotta look every day and be willing to travel - the cost is much lower. I see Bullets for sale fairly often. Of course it won't look like the $500 vise, but it can look and function like a new one if you refurbish it yourself. It does take time and effort, but overall it isn't terribly difficult. Once you start leveling the metal and taking care of stuff like casting flash and scale, things can get more complex, but I digress. Few folks go that far.
      We have access to higher quality parts than stock and the rest is up to you. If you join the (closed) vise group on FB, we can help you choose a good vise to work with and offer assistance during the restoration. Or, you can save your shekels and buy a restored vise from someone like me. These are the two options if you really want a Bullet.
      As a side note, guys who restore vises often consider Reed and Athol as the most desirable, generally speaking. Not Wilton. On TH-cam, however, it's as if Wilton is the pinnacle of quality. Hard not to smile. Good luck.

      my mechanic left his ratchet 3 ratcheting wrences 2 sockets and his extension and dead blow hammer in the extra battery tray on my Tahoe one time.. A week later i was under the hood because i heard a rattling sound. It was his ratchet hittinh that hammer when i hit bumps.. He was so suprised when I brought in almost ten Snap on tools, neither of us could believe that with my driving everything stayed in the battery tray...Needless to say my next job was on the house and he was so happy that I was a good guy and brought them back when I found them. He said it was late and dark and he plain forgot... Thats one reason i always put my stuff back on my service cart or in my magnetic tray. at least i wont lose anything... just a funny story about crap that happens to the best of us. He is a really good mechanic.

    Congrats on the vise. As I'm sure you know, it's essentially a Wilton 1765 Tradesman. The Tradesman differs a bit from Wilton's Bullet vises. The main practical difference, I'm assuming in terms of a shop application, is the hardening of the jaw inserts. They're not as hard as the inserts on the combination and machinist vises. It may or may not be an issue for your use. If you do crack an insert, take a look at the link below. I restore vises and own 5 Bullets of my own. This is where folks like me get our parts: www.wiltonviseparts.net/

    The 1 hp grinder is pretty mean. I've had one for a while. It grinds/cuts beefy enough to need the side handle. You'll like the KRSC, it's pretty handy. I dig mine. The stock guides are the weaker 100# glides. For a diag cart it should be good. I doubled a couple drawers with the stronger glides and swapped two 2" drawers from my KRA4107.

    • @KoonTrucking
      @KoonTrucking  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To each his own what they spend money on. And as Americans we all have the right to choose what that is.
      Funny thing is everyone that doesn’t have Snap On tools always fussed about the prices but the ones that own Snap On tools never fuss about the quality or the price. Yes they are high no doubt, but you pay for the service and the quality and the fact when it breaks (yes I said when not if because if you use tools they WILL break) they replace them on the spot vs having to mail them off.
      I’m proud of my tools and they make my living Like any other profession you want the best you can buy. Just like a photographer won’t be using a $20 digital no name camera and your doctor probably won’t be going to harbor freight to buy his scalpels, you want to have the best tools you can afford to work with. For me I feel Snap On, Matco, Mac or Cornwell are the best choices.
      The tool truck dealers have to make a living too. They have lots of overhead. Truck payment, insurance, tool inventory, fuel, plus they are carrying the note on a lot of money owed to them from interest free tool truck accounts. All that comes out before they even get a paycheck for themselves. I understand overhead costs. The service is worth the little extra cost of a quality American made tool made from American Steel manufactured by American workers in and American factory.

    what did you have to pay for the dirty used box if u do not mind saying?? I am really curious as I almost bought the exact box used but passed it up because he wanted $900 and I thought that was a little steep. But it was a private person not a dealer

      Those carts are $1600-1900 brand new, if it is in good shape and is a krsc46 I would give $900 all day for it! They are worth it.
