For future apple harvests, you might want to handle those apples more gently, and also dry them off before you put them in storage. I’m afraid you may end up with bruised and moldy apples this time, unless you intend to pull them for further processing very soon. You can get fruit harvesting bags that you wear with a harness/belt in front of you like an apron to pick into.

Since the apples were wet when putting them in the refrigerator they will need paper towels to keep them from molding. I believe I would store them in the basement; in and unheated room. Apples will not keep long in the refrigerator !

For storing apples or other harvested items, it's advised to not get the fruit wet as it will spoil sooner. Keep the natural layer of dirt on the apples till you are ready to eat them and they will last longer. You can put some paper towels down or newspaper as another viewer recommended to keep the dirt off the shelves

I think the most trouble you will have in your silage process will be baleing it, it is a special baler that is used. A silage baler has heaver pickup teeth/tines and a different roll starter. Good luck, because cows love silage.

FYI I volunteered for an organic orchard in Canada couple years ago run by a couple that were in their 80s ..they had 50 rows of 50 trees each - roughly 9 different species - they had trimmed every single tree so that they could be picked from the ground by hand. That’s what I did -I helped get the last batch of apples off probably a dozen rows or so ..I’m only 6’ 2” & was able to reach everything from the ground ,they had a basket with a belt through the handles that I put over my neck and it hung down about waist level, I could pick with both hands until I got it full enough and then took it to a big basket that they moved with the forks on the tractor. Made the whole process very quick, no ladder - no handtools… enjoy the channel -the two of you make such a terrific team. blessings to you and yours.

When I picked apples at an orchard we had Harvest Apple Picking Bags. Made picking apples a whole lot easier. You should check them out. They are a canvas basket that hangs on your shoulders in front and as you pick the apples (or other fruit) you just put them in the basket. The bottom of the basket is just a flap that latches to the top so when the basket is full, you unlatch and just empty it through the bottom of the basket into your container. Check them out. They allow you to pick apples hands free.

I bet those deflectors will work really good in shorter grass. You could probably take you some rubber and bolt to those deflectors & let it slide across the top of cutter so you could still adjust the deflectors & but it would stop the grass from hanging up in there. Great video always enjoy & always trying to take some pointers away for my channel. Thanks Evan & Rebekah!

The round baler should work better if the windrow is a little wider than the bale with the gathering wheels crowding the hay in on the edges. That should help keep the ends of the round bales well formed without needing to zig zag on top of the windrow

The best way to "consume" apples is to make apple cider.
I use a shredder attachment on a Kitchen Aid mixer to shred the fruit, and a hand crank cider press to make the juice. I'll bet those Gala apples would make superb cider, too!
I find it takes eight pounds of apples to make a quart of apple cider.
After you squeeze out the juice, you are left with the crushed apple cores and skins, which I bet would make the hogs deliriously happy!
