So cool to see last years trip on video! This year, (ww2023) my wife and I are going! Tickets are already bought and we are already getting our rig set up for what craziness lies ahead!
I went to WindRock for the first time last year. Nov 2021 and the train was closed to access. It is a SOUTHERN engine and that's my last name so I really want to see it. I returned to WindRock for the 2nd time yesterday. What a blast. I cant wait to go back. I'm not waiting a year again.

What trail(s) was that you took up there?
Great video, footage was awesome. Not surprised you had trouble getting from the overlook back to the G trails, that little section is tricky when dry, let alone wet and icy.

There is easy access to the train from Rt 116. You can look on a map for a spot called Moore's Camp. From 116 its just an abandoned coal processing plant. Behind the plant just before the mountain is the train. 36° 8'58.07"N 84°22'58.39"W

We climbed trail 83 into the clouds in March, and it was the perfect combination of spooky trail riding and rock crawling. Visibility was measured in feet, and water holes were measured in "holy crap!" At least until my next trip, it's what I think of when I think about Windrock

Good video, it's a little more motivation for me. We live in VA and I just got a 2000 4runner that is gonna be a project for me over the next couple years. We are definitely gonna have to hit this place up since it's fairly close. What a blast it'll be in the 3rd Gen or the RZR

One of the neatest things to catch is ice on the tree tops on a sunny morning. One day I went riding it was 50 degrees or so, and it was still early. I climbed the mountain and then came around a corner and realized all the tree tops were glistening. Apparently the fog can condensed into ice on the trees over night and in the morning, without any snow on the ground the trees looked like a whiteout.
It was insane looking all white completely different place!
