Can we just take a moment to realize that Mario Kart 8 is probably the few moments where we can see Link acting extremely cheerful? Going as far as laughing and chuckling as he does tricks or hits the other racers with an item. XD
One of my personal favorite Link being happy moments is in Wind Waker after you beat a boss. Don't know why but I just love Link's victory jump whenever he beats a boss! XD
In super Mario 3D land, 5-2 backwards is 2-5, which is like 25, and it was the 25th anniversary of the legend of Zelda. Same goes for 3D world, world castle can clasify as world 7, which makes it the 27th anniversary
A few things I noticed -links design from the donkey kong game is CDI link -the light in the room with the koriki symbol looks like a star fragment -the girl who owns the vase is a lot like the flower lady in botw -another answer on the question with "a legendary sword" crystal stars refer to star fragments -the demon on question 4 is Gannon
6:30 the breaking vase could also be a reference to TLOZ The Windwaker, where you have to pay for destroying vases in a certain house (if I'm remembering corectly).
Yes, but I believe it is also a reference to the original game, where there is a cave you can bomb open, and the character inside makes you pay to repair his door.
I (totally don't) hate to be that guy, but you forgot the Hylian Glider (9:14). Therefore, this video is clickbait. But seriously, I really enjoyed this video. Keep up the good work.
6:34 No, I think it's a reference to Link: The Faces Of Evil for the CD-I 8:36 Did you know that there's a Mega Mushroom in a hidden block on the left foot? Also, when you ground-pound while the Mega Mushroom is active, it lights up a bunch of blocks
You missed out Wario's Adventure from the first WarioWare. When Wario gets the treasure from the chest during that microgame, he holds it up like Link does in the N64 games and a "Wario-fied" version of the Zelda item tune plays.
Azariah Portillo There's also pictures of Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Bowser and Peach on the inside of the Hyrule Castle in Ocarina of Time. They can be hard to see though.
In Bowsers Kingdom you can blow out flames in the first area and when you do it plays victory music just like filling in a torch in the Legend Of Zelda
6:35 The whole scene is based on that one scene from TLOZ: The Wind Waker where Link smashes one or more vases and the owner of the house and the vases a certain number rupees depending how many vases Link smashed.
It was. Link's Awakening came out in 1993 while DKC3 was 3 years later. Indeed, Link was searching for the seashells found in Link's Awakening but the one the bear had wasn't quite what Link was looking for.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the background theme of one of the overworld maps in Super Mario Bros. 3 later becomes the iconic theme of both the select menu and Fairy Fountains in Zelda games starting with A Link to the Past.
This video was great. I think in donkey Kong country returns, cranky says its dangerous to go alone take this when you leave his store but I’m not certain
The 2 scenes from super paper mario are also Easter eggs. To wake a giant Robot was in Skyward Sword and to pay some vase was in The Wind Waker. But still great!👍
There's a reference in Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, where if you enter Cranky's Shop and go to the portable DK barrel, well, you probably know what Cranky will say.
0:02 is actually a reference to Zelda II: The adventure of Link. The hammer item is functionally identical to the hammer item in adventure of link and only has cosmetic differences.
Not sure if this counts as a reference, but Dimentio reviving the robot at 5:38 reminds me of Zant reviving Stallord, the 4th boss of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Note: I haven't played the Paper Mario game this scene is from.
I just the rupees in the Hyrule stage in MK8 and MK8D use a similar sound, model (albeit being bigger in size), and textures as the green Rupees in BotW. Great game btw, must play.
nice video tho, im a big fan of both series and played all zelda games and all 3d mario games and didnt rly notice most of these references. the one with the star bits shaped like a rupee in galaxy i definitely woulda noticed tho but i never knew u could jump up there lol. wait was that galaxy 1 or 2? idr
A reference i found in paper mario the thousand year door is that in the temple when you get the first crystal star location the plataform illuminates like in ocarina of time
want to add a secret for everyone to the Hyrule MK 8 track; if you hit all 3 Crystal Switches, a familiar tune plays and you unlock a ramp in the upcoming room; you can fly though the triforce with it.
9:30 well, I wouldn't exactly call it a reference, like in super smash bros, it has a name like a Mario title but features a lot of other characters in it.
Wait, E-Gadd invent the tri-force? Did one of his machines teleport it into a cave, while the middle piece was destroyed and kirby found it? Did Kirby then lose it and the Sheikahs (idk who did it but i think they did it) found it and have hyrule it?
8:01 On that note i think the sprixies MIGHT be a reference to the seven sages (im not sure though) 8:23 ALSO the sound effects when you touch the pixels is the same as opening a chest in zelda
so, ive started playing "super mario 3d land" for the first time EVER in my life, after 8 years it came out. 2019 to be exact. ive beat the whole game in october, and DID NOT notice the level in world 5 representing a zelda dungeon because NOT ONLY with the torch secret, but also has a top view. how did i not notice that? 🙄 oh yeah, i didnt do the torch puzzle. stupid ol me!
Goddammit Nintendo! Do a freaking Super Mario-The Legend of Zelda Crossover Game already! Maybe I'm the only One who wishes for this but I can Imagine Mario and Link working together..
Y'know what I'm so surprised there wasn't a mention of Yoshi Dolls in Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater, Kirby and Starfy being in theater posters in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, Mr. Game and Watch being in Donkey Kong Country Returns, Link's name being mentioned in a Final Fantasy game on a gravestone, Pacman in a Mario Kart game, Samus appearing in Kirby’s Dreamland 3, Metroid-like creatures (Komaytos) in Kid Icarus, Kirby also fights Metroids in Dreamland 3. In Link's Awakening Link fights various Mario enemies and even Kirby himself there's more to this crossover thing then you know. Donkey Kong and Luigi being in the audience of The Arcade Punch Out That's all I can think of. I wonder why Nintendo doesn’t do things like this these days. I was hoping to see a bunch of References and Easter Eggs in Odyssey.
Technically not. Wario has too his own games, but is still mainly a Mario Character. Therefore, Donkey Kong belongs to the Mario Franchise and so do his games.
Donkey Kong was actually made by a different company than Nintendo until they bought the rights to the characters so that’s why they referenced him because he’s from a big company at the time
The mario kart 8 one is not a mere reference... It's a full on CAMEO FEATURETTE, INCLUSION. An example of a REFERENCE, would just be a small mention of a word, phrase or picture of the Zelda zeries, without it necessarily being so obvious unless you're a zelda fan. But the mario kart one is definitely not JUST A REFERENCE. THEY LITERALLY INCLUDED LUNK HIMSELF AS HIS OWN CHARACTER, HIS OWN GAME THEMED TRACK, AND HIS OWN SONG!

Can we just take a moment to realize that Mario Kart 8 is probably the few moments where we can see Link acting extremely cheerful? Going as far as laughing and chuckling as he does tricks or hits the other racers with an item. XD
Mike Anthony his "yahoo!" was so cute it made me so happy :(((
Link has been adventuring way too much that he needed a brake
Ljemo
Ah! I see!
One of my personal favorite Link being happy moments is in Wind Waker after you beat a boss. Don't know why but I just love Link's victory jump whenever he beats a boss! XD
Only times we see him really happy are in windwaker twilight princess and skyward sword
9:12 wow, I almost missed the reference here, it was so subtle
Join the club :(
RaisinCake Ikr! I only barely caught that the character, music, triforce, map, was from zelda!
Notice how the title of this video says "refrences AND cameos", cameos meaning they appear somewhere that isnt their place of origin.
Real_RUBB3R ya but it was dlc, right?
Even if it was DLC, it would still be a cameo. He appeared in the Deluxe version of the game, which is an entirely new game.
The super mario 3D world was definately the best reference. I would call the mario kart 8 one more of a mini crossover.
Mr.Xanious mee too
Mr.Xanious I call it DLC and not a reference
I thought 3D land was the best refrence.
Mr.Xanious the best one was super mario 3D land
LilLegend its a cameo which is kinda a crossover
DKCR
"Its dangerous to go alone, buy this!"
Da Nintendude my favorite part
Da Nintendude time stamp?
@@yocarter9221 It's not in this video, it is one that they missed because they did Funky's shop instead.
Here's the Timestamp, 8:57.
6:23 was also a Windwaker reference from when you break that guys vase on Windfall Island.
I was also think about that
She's also a lot like the flower lady from BotW
In super Mario 3D land, 5-2 backwards is 2-5, which is like 25, and it was the 25th anniversary of the legend of Zelda.
Same goes for 3D world, world castle can clasify as world 7, which makes it the 27th anniversary
That's a bit of a reach
@@trevrr good thing he has the longshot
@@dELTA13579111315. You may need a hookshot for that joke to stick.
Some of these feel more like coincidences than references
I think not
I think so, like the dart board in luigi's mansion
Well, tell them that is purely references, since both series belongs to Nintendo.
A few things I noticed
-links design from the donkey kong game is CDI link
-the light in the room with the koriki symbol looks like a star fragment
-the girl who owns the vase is a lot like the flower lady in botw
-another answer on the question with "a legendary sword" crystal stars refer to star fragments
-the demon on question 4 is Gannon
0:42 Sonic's Shoes? (Bottom Right)
The console wars were hot at the time.
Smanman67 also earthworm Jim pistol
Nintendo and Sega were rivals at that time.
It is no longer necessary to ask, the war has been in the past.
Its because of a rivalry
Came in here expecting to know every reference. Was instead shocked by quite a few of them.
RondoOfBloodX yep, the more u know
Swimdude11 THE MORE YOU GROW
6:30 the breaking vase could also be a reference to TLOZ The Windwaker, where you have to pay for destroying vases in a certain house (if I'm remembering corectly).
I thought that was the reference aswell :)
Yeah you’re right.
9yy your right, what I do is break stuff and try to leave without paying, but I can't
Yes, but I believe it is also a reference to the original game, where there is a cave you can bomb open, and the character inside makes you pay to repair his door.
Also with Skyward Sword
I (totally don't) hate to be that guy, but you forgot the Hylian Glider (9:14). Therefore, this video is clickbait.
But seriously, I really enjoyed this video. Keep up the good work.
V-Man 776 booo bad joke
V-Man 776 No clickbait
You made my day 🙂
V-Man 776 I (totally don't) hate to be that guy but it's the hylian kite
V-Man 776 i
6:34 No, I think it's a reference to Link: The Faces Of Evil for the CD-I

9:56 OMG!Haha!Ganondorf!!!And...THE MUSIC!!!
3:58
Me: Um. I don’t know why, but it looks… familiar somehow.
Wow. I didn't know there was ANY Zelda easter eggs in Mario.
Kalko the more u know 😁
This means mario and Link live in the same world
You guys should have one that says MARIO references in Legend of Zelda games and links awakening is one
Azariah Portillo agree
Azariah Portillo There's also pictures of Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Bowser and Peach on the inside of the Hyrule Castle in Ocarina of Time. They can be hard to see though.
Azariah Portillo looks like someone else is using they’re phone because of when you say mario it comes out as MARIO
The Jay Gaming I am actually using my phone
Thats what i said
Makes sense. Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda on NES were co-developed!
In Bowsers Kingdom you can blow out flames in the first area and when you do it plays victory music just like filling in a torch in the Legend Of Zelda
I got all of them except the one at 9:10 I don’t see anything about the legend of zelda there. :/
"It's dangerous to go alone - take on of these" from the very first zelda game title
hapmen360 The little jingle is the secret jingle from Zelda sped/pitched up
Lol nvm, it's definitely not the same but it's close
liam barnett whoosh
hapmen360 rupees
6:35 The whole scene is based on that one scene from TLOZ: The Wind Waker where Link smashes one or more vases and the owner of the house and the vases a certain number rupees depending how many vases Link smashed.
Link is in Mario’s universe! He even slept in the same hotel with Mario!
What did the bear dude mean when he said Link muttered about his shells being the wrong shape?
I want to say its a reference to the shells in Link's Awakening but I don't know if that game was out yet
It was. Link's Awakening came out in 1993 while DKC3 was 3 years later. Indeed, Link was searching for the seashells found in Link's Awakening but the one the bear had wasn't quite what Link was looking for.
Thank you.
MantaStorm yeah the bear had green, red, and blue shells instead of the secret seashells
Its a reference to link awakening or it could be noticibg towards hownin the original zelda link had to find fragments of the triforce
DK 3:Dixie Kong's quest introduced Link coming in a shop and wanted to know about the castle at 1:12.
I recently bought a gba cartridge with 2 Zelda games in it
Zelda: a link to the past and
Zelda: four swords
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the background theme of one of the overworld maps in Super Mario Bros. 3 later becomes the iconic theme of both the select menu and Fairy Fountains in Zelda games starting with A Link to the Past.
This video was great. I think in donkey Kong country returns, cranky says its dangerous to go alone take this when you leave his store but I’m not certain
He says "It's Dangerous to Go Alone, Buy This." He doesn't want DK to get anything for free.
The 2 scenes from super paper mario are also Easter eggs. To wake a giant Robot was in Skyward Sword and to pay some vase was in The Wind Waker. But still great!👍
Super Paper Mario was before Skyward Sword.
It's a really good game, called "Super Paper Mario", I played that game for hours on end and beat it more than once.
I’d like to ask how many of these were references and how many were just coincidences
flameblade 3 like the *ZELD* in that Yoshi game
flameblade 3 the super paper mario one was
Game Arts I get the feeling the one with the Mario galaxy enemies is also just a coincidence
flameblade 3 same for the 3D world cutscene with bowser capturing the faries.
Roman Gaming
Nah, that said *ZELDA*
If you think about it, the Mario universe and the Zelda universe are close to each other when it comes to references.
Not to mention the Super Mario references in Ocarina of Time in the castle when you look through the windows as Child Link in the castle Courtyard
I just the rupees in the Hyrule stage in MK8 and MK8D use a similar sound, model (albeit being bigger in size), and textures as the green Rupees in BotW. Great game btw, must play.
Note: In Hyrule circuit, if you hit the item box you can hear the music from Wind Waker.
The music heard when Link opens a chest
This is awesome! :D This is my inspiration for the new video game I'm designing called The Legend of Mario: Linked Adventure! :D
over time the references and cameos came in less and were not as obvious but they are still there.
nice video tho, im a big fan of both series and played all zelda games and all 3d mario games and didnt rly notice most of these references. the one with the star bits shaped like a rupee in galaxy i definitely woulda noticed tho but i never knew u could jump up there lol. wait was that galaxy 1 or 2? idr
A reference i found in paper mario the thousand year door is that in the temple when you get the first crystal star location the plataform illuminates like in ocarina of time
Maybe Zelda and Mario references in other games
That TTYD one totally slipped my mind
Also in super Mario bros 3 world 3s song is the fairy fountain/title screen theme from the legend of Zelda
6:05 I thought that was a reference from wind waker, in a house you can break these pots and the owner will get mad at you
The magic whistle is the recorder from the legend of Zelda from super Mario Bros 3 at 0:16.
Vice Verse too, please
Mario & Splatoon references Vice Verse, please
Mario & Animal Crossing references Vice Verse, please
I gotta say i really like the 3D land refrence with the dungeon feel.
7:05 Best time? 69
Mega Mario Fan 400
Noice
Nice
For the rubees part it’s also a reference to Wind Walker where at windfall if you break a vase at the auction you pay 10 rupees
Now that I think about it more... The File select theme is Mario Bros 3's water world theme.
The dart board resembles the symbol of the Kokiri in Luigi's Mansion at 3:18.
When you realize the magic whistle sounds like the title theme from Ocarina of Time.
Noticed that too
Men, the theme is from TLOZ 1, not for OOT.
True
want to add a secret for everyone to the Hyrule MK 8 track; if you hit all 3 Crystal Switches, a familiar tune plays and you unlock a ramp in the upcoming room; you can fly though the triforce with it.
0:43 "no hopers" Sonic...
Hector Velez it also has earthworm jims gun!
I didn't know the last one before! Thanks! :D
I love the reference to Phil Colin on the score card
3:47 Looked to me like a Zelda Oracle reference. The rings that raises damage given and damage taken.
9:30 well, I wouldn't exactly call it a reference, like in super smash bros, it has a name like a Mario title but features a lot of other characters in it.
The light in that same room as the dart board had a star bit shaped light!
I love these cool zelda easter eggs.
That paper mario with the rubees thing also alludes to OoT when you smash this one guys pots
Sonic shoes at 0:42, also, as much as I hate to say it, Nintendo predicted the future of Sonic. I still have faith though
6:17 We can get rupees in breaking pot! XD
Now I wanna see if there's any Fire Emblem references in Mario games (if there are any).
The Great Force has FOUR pieces.
Nintendo said it wasn't real but it is.
ITS THE TETRAFORCE!
Thnx professor Egad
Wait, E-Gadd invent the tri-force? Did one of his machines teleport it into a cave, while the middle piece was destroyed and kirby found it? Did Kirby then lose it and the Sheikahs (idk who did it but i think they did it) found it and have hyrule it?
You missed one, the snail minigame in superstar saga has octopuses that resemble octorocks
8:01
On that note i think the sprixies MIGHT be a reference to the seven sages (im not sure though)
8:23
ALSO the sound effects when you touch the pixels is the same as opening a chest in zelda
An easter egg you missed, the sprixies resemble the maidens from Four Swords Adventures
Did anyone notice the thumbnail...
the Tri Force has a 4th part Comfimed!!!
Courage, wisdom, power and ???????
so, ive started playing "super mario 3d land" for the first time EVER in my life, after 8 years it came out.
More like *"Zelda References & Cameos in Mario Games 1988-2018"*
@Nintendo Unity Also the ‘you broke this valuable vase’ is a reference to when you break a pot in a certain house in windfall island in Wind Waker
6:26
You forgot that you can get the triforce in Kirby superstar in the great cave offensive. I find that offensive.
Is it weird to say I thought link's shield was a bible in the NES game
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's a KIRBO reference?
Wieder mal ein tolles video
can you please do all mario references and cameos in zelda games
Goddammit Nintendo! Do a freaking Super Mario-The Legend of Zelda Crossover Game already!

Donkey Kong and Luigi being in the audience of The Arcade Punch Out That's all I can think of. I wonder why Nintendo doesn’t do things like this these days. I was hoping to see a bunch of References and Easter Eggs in Odyssey.
Brandon Williams this was for “ZELDA” References in “MARIO” Games.
The Nintendo Jedi Well I guess I got carried away, besides there are more fascinating Easter Eggs in various different Nintendo games.
Brandon Williams well yeah
I've just noticed that the Gearmos from Galaxy have the same sound as the gardening robots it the Wooded Kingdom in Odyssey!
Please change the title to "All Zelda References and Cameos in Mario&Donkey Kong Games".
Mysterium and yoshi
Well Donkey Kong and Yoshi are part of the Mario universe.
But hyrule is also part of THIS universe
Again, technically not. But I don't want to outsmart you this time.
Technically not. Wario has too his own games, but is still mainly a Mario Character. Therefore, Donkey Kong belongs to the Mario Franchise and so do his games.
0:43 why are the sonic shoes here its Nintendo not sega right ?
Nothing Sega and Nintendo were rivals at this time, so...
Look at the sign next to Sonic’s shoes and Earthworm Jim’s gun
They're "no hopers"
Well the shoes are next to a trash can so are they going in the trash?
Donkey Kong was actually made by a different company than Nintendo until they bought the rights to the characters so that’s why they referenced him because he’s from a big company at the time
I knew it! Zelda was the green guy all along!
I loved this video!
Wait until there's a Link outfit for Super Mario Odyssey, if there will be one.
My personal Favorite is "Its dangerous to go alone, take this!" in DK
Just realized there were none Mario games despite the thumbnail

I remember there being a Triforce made out of coins in like the training mode or something of Mario Golf World Tour.
Wow streched real far for a lot of these
2018 not represented.... YET. Not till SMM2 & Mario Aces!
Mario Maker 2 hasn't been confirmed.
...Mario Aces?
GGK912
Mario TENNIS Aces
Dont forget 2019 Mario & Luigi:Bowser's inside story+bowser jr.'s journey!
GGK912 yep
6:32 - I haven't noticed that cameo!
Also, where's the Zelda reference in Mario & Luigi Dream Team?
1:24
Link can speak confirmed.
EXACTLY!!!
You forgot donkey kong country returns
Mario has now successfully found the 4th triforce piece
Loved the "references"
You forgot in Super Mario Bros 3 in the World 3 map, the music is quite the same as the Main Menu/File Select screen in The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina of Time.and A Link To the Past.
That's a Mario reference in a Zelda game of which is a seperate video.
Dkc Returns 3d also had the same reference to Zelda games as Tropical Freeze did,
Nice video 👍🏽
