I love them both. I personally think that each show is special on it’s own, it’s not fair to compare them. The main idea of magic girls may be similiar but the story lines are totally different which gives no room for comparison.
I completely agree. I don't understand why magical girl shows always need to be compared to each other. Both shows are good for different reasons. To say that one show is inherently better than the other just creates an elitist mindset. In the end it simply comes down to personal preference and even then one can still love both shows. Magical girls shows are already few in numbers, why pit them against each other.

I adore winx club but it got too inconsistent especially with the relationships, transformations etc and don't get me started on the reboot, sailor moon was the blueprint and was somewhat consistent.. The end of winx season 5 always got me mad ugh and Nabu's death !!
I only watched Winx club, but WC started off really strong with it's first 3 seasons. They had the time to build up each character's personalities, and by extension their powers, it was mostly consistent (with word building and power scaling and magic system). Although it was regarded as very kid friendly, Winx wasn't trying to shy away from certain things like the alleged murder of Bloom's birth parents, and even main character deaths (they killed flora on the third season on screen by drowning her although she was revived right after). The forth season was an interesting situation, because they tried to make it both more mature, and simultaneously kid friendly. For example they made character dialogue much simpler, cliche and childish, color palette was way brighter and sparkly almost to the point of being overwhelming lmao but also they took the risk of letting the main characters age and grow up by becoming adults, and managing responsibilities like money, and also killing another main character (Nabu) on screen (and he stayed dead). And although it wasn't as beloved as the first three seasons, it's generally regarded as a good season with a really interesting concept. 95% of the fanbase agrees that season 5-8 shouldn't have happened and are a waste of time (and braincells) since it's too childish, inconsistent, boring, etc.
I literally don't think it would ever be consider to be "childish" or realize any difference from the seasons until recently hearing other people, and it's all just the same to me. I at least consider season 5 with my nostalgia of seasons 1,2, and 4
Winx Seasons 1-3 I enjoyed, seasons 5-8 are letdown because they kiddified them completely but especially season 8 is flop lmao. I have mixed opinions on Winx season 4, but you can see season 5 of Winx nickelodeon cheesy kiddified dialogue,… but I will say I liked Harmonix, Tynix, Mythix, and some transform from seasons 5 but Enchantix will always be supreme in my heart.
and in terms of popularity, sailor moon also wins. the sailor moon franchise of just the anime alone is already wayyyyy successful. this isn’t even including the MANGA which sold and is still selling billions of copies. sailor moon has not even ended also! there are still movies about it being made (sailor moon cosmos 2023). as what i’ve heard, winx has been abandoned but that’s their cartoon industry to blame and the creator

I think than one of the bigest diffrences is than the Sailors are special, in the sense than especialy in the manga they are the guardians of the most powerfull thing in the universe the Silver Crystal and by exention its holder Serenity, it's their God given mission to defend them. While anyone can be a Winx, at the end the Winx is just a friend grup, what makes them special is their willingness to be in the front line along with their experience in fighting the Trix it's also the reason for witch they are often sent to do mission by Faragonda or other peopole. The Sailor have to fight no matter what, the winx insead choose to fight. If the Sailor don't Fight the world gose kaput, instead anybody can do what the winx do they are replaceable in that sense (with the exeption of Bloom)

@@kerimbabic6124 Yes it is, the Winx are more relatable than the Sailors under that aspect, but especialy in the manga Sailor Moon's story is more a mitology kinda like the stories of anciant gods (Zeus, Athena exe...) and those stories are not supose to ve relatable they are supose to teach something about the world. In the final atcs of the manga Eternal Sailor Moon is faced with the question if it is better to not live at all or live a life full of suffering and she needs to take that decision for the entire universe. Winx instead focus more on singular charcters and their arcs rather than the bigger world, even in the 90s anime none of the Sailors have real characters arcs exept for Moon, Chibimoon. Yeh they do have their issues but they are usualy resolved by the end of the episode and they are never mentioned again unlike in Winx Club when we can see the girls growing and dealing with their inner demons. They are diffrent but one isn't better than the other.
I watched both and I think that the first four seasons of winx were better than sailor moon but later on nickelodeon became the co-owner of winx and ruined it...

I'm a big Sailor Moon fan but winx was a great series. I just love SM more because the story is better in my opinion. Fun fact Sailor Venus still has her physical abilities out of her Sailor form.
Yes. I love Sailor Moon- but that means manga and Crystal anime only because 90s anime dragged on with unnecessary filler. As for Winx maybe season 9 will fix Winx but what would be good if Winx Club would get in Japan to get anime adaptation instead of stupid director investing into stupid live action , it would gain more popularity as anime.
@@darlingyouidiot- Technically all of them do. Rei’s clairvoyance and connection to fire is still active as is the way she uses scrolls. Plus she can fight fight. Ami can use her mini computer outside of her senshi form while her intelligence and ability to strategize are a natural part of her. Though not as prominent as in the manga it is indicated that Ami has a connection to the water even in civilian form. This is shown in S3 where while swimming she thinks about how she feels at one with water especially when around or in it.
I didn't really took the time to watch consistently Winx Club so here it goes my one and only opinion about Sailor Moo. So, without any comparison i can say that Sailor Moon is so loved bc of the story and representation, they have lgbt characters (not often very well put on some Dubs) but Naoko actually was aware about what she was giving: a story about a normal girl who discovers her true identity and has to fight evil to save the world, she was a true feminist and empowered a tons of young girls by creating such powerful girl heroes. Even if they didn't match the girly stereotype (like Haruka, Seiya and Makoto) and decided to put the man aside, being Mamoru a prince and the guardian of the golden crystal, he is not taking any of the Sailors place, cause the Sailor Senshi are the warriors, they fight against everything and sacrifices a lot. I just love how SM also has formed it's own family, not only duty or friendship. Actually, Michiru, Haruka, Setsuna and Hotaru became a whole family and that changed the normative for a lot of generations who still need to normalize the diversity of the families.
I grew up watching the Winx, but watching both nowadays, Sailor Moon is definitely better, except for the transformation sequences (but even that isn't too surprising since Sailor Moon basically set the tone for every other magical girl's who came after). I also think even the Sailor's personalities are better than the Winx's... Sailor Mars is the best developed senshi apart from Sailor Moon, but even Jupiter or Mercury have their own personalities. Venus' is very close to Sailor Moon's bc she's an alternative protagonist of Naoko Takeuchi but even so, she stays pretty much true to herself. Winx Club could have been pretty close but as the seasons went on the Winx lost their personalities. Musa isn't tomboyish anymore, Tecna isn't angry or critical, and Aisha isn't as combative.... Winx was good for my childhood imagination but Sailor Moon is a series you can actually rewatch now and feel implicated in.
As someone who is also an older winx fan since childhood, I can say without a problem, I can perfectly accept all of its stuff, I try not to think or point its boring so I can actually like it.
Sailor Moon is the reason I was drawn to Winx Club. Also, Iginio Straffi stated that Winx Club was inspired by Sailor Moon. As much as I enjoy both of them Sailor Moon is by far the superior magical girl show. Winx Club started off strong but in the later seasons (the inconsistency with the 2nd movie & seasons 5-8) it began to go downhill.
I remember having a mutual on DeviantArt who had an erupting hatred for Winx Club because she thought it was a Sailor Moon rip-off (and would even make hate art of it as well), mostly because the two shows are magical girl genre. Quite frankly, she called every show she hated a rip-off of something she liked, even if the two shows have nothing in common (Like Kim Possible with Sally Bollywood). On the bright side, she matured out of it and likes Winx Club now.
I actually just rewatched both of these series. I love them both but I would have to say Sailor is better but Winx’s earlier seasons are better than any of Sailor Moon. Wind is only worse because of the later seasons being miserable to get thought and ruining the continuity of the earlier good season (1-4).
I love them both as well, but personally I don't like to compare the two only bc they're two different interpretations on magical girls with a few overlapping themes like friendship, magic, girl power etc. That being said, I agree with you lol, the earlier seasons of Winx were ELITE, while Sailor Moon aired during a time where fans weren't all that familiar (or bored) with the "Monster of the day" plot. I liked that the reboot tried to rectify this, following the manga more closely but yeah, Sailor Moon Crystal Seasons 1 and 2 were okay. I don't love it. I really enjoyed Season 3 though. 😍
i’ve watched both and what you said is literally the reverse. the sailor moon earlier seasons aren’t going to just be credited for nostalgia but it’s storyline is so unique. sailor moon started off strong and ended strong despite anything personal you have against it. the main characters, villains, their backstories and their abilities were way more thought out than just a team of girls with fairy wings. and you can take literally any episode of sailor moon and it’ll have way more emotional value than anything winx could ever put out!!! usagi alone was a more complex and emotional character than the whole winx franchise lol. the sailor senshi friendship was more realistic too. and don’t even get me started with the love relationships!!! to me, bloom and sky was literally like bella swan and edward. he appeared and suddenly everyone knew they were perfect together. it was flat and lacked such an interesting backstory . sailor moon was nothing like that … i could go on

In one episode, idk if it the old or the new one, Usagi can transform without her brooch. She used the Silvercrystal to transform. I'd say, I prefer Winx because it's not as formulaic and doesn't drag on as much as Sailor Moon's seasons often tend to do. I also simply have way more nostalgia for it, ngl. Winx Club's first three seasons are very strong and felt like they were always progressing while Sailor Moon had way more of a status quo that didn't really change much outside of new characters and power upgrades. I love the darker tone of Sailor Moon and would probably like it better if it wasn't as long and had a stronger plot progression, though it has a way more consistent quality than Winx Club, considering how the latter massively went downhill from season 5 onwards (partly season 4). I still love both shows to death and appreciate them for similar and different reasons. They'll always have a special place in my heart.
Well 90s anime dragged on storyline, Sailor Moon Crystal doesn’t thats why I love Crystal anime and don’t like 90s anime. Yeah Winx Club was golden in its first 3 seasons because it developed the characters but then season 5-8 don’t do that much and are kiddified especially season 8 which is complete flop.

There's at least 3 different showing of this in Sailor Moon, 2 as a couple and one single. In the 1st, the 3ed and 4th seasons. The first is the last 2 Generals, Malachite and Zoicite. The next were Sailors Neptune and Uranus, and the last was Fisheye, who is either trans, in transition, or a Drag Queen, I was never really sure, but Fisheye WAS gay so.... There might have been more, but these are the most prominent ones that I remember.
@block8661 No, the American dub made him (them?) female like they did with Zoicite. DIC, who were the ones that got it, didn't want to "promote that lifestyle". And they censored a lot of episodes or just took out episodes and didn't air them at all. From what I hear, the redubs are ALL the episodes with none of the censorship from the original '90's dub, and all 5 seasons that us '90's kids didn't get. And we didn't get the 5th season 'cuz the 3 new scouts were female to male transgenders half the time.
To be honest, I tried to watch Winx once. But it was somekind of... Weird. I don't know why. Maybe because of the story, or animations, or characters. While SM series were always able to make me laugh, cry, worry about characters. Not only good characters, but bad ones as well. And these backgrounds of music, backviews like cosmic dimension of city, or any other location - were adding more tension of excitement to "what will happen next?" Maybe this happened because I saw SM when I was 7 y.o. And Winx was watched by me in 14 y.o. And I actually rejected most of manga aspects, except the plot of Galactic Cauldron and Chaos - these were quite good ideas. It turned upside-down the whole understanding how far SM lore could go. I'm sure Winx has a rich lore too, but wasn't interested in it. Don't know why.
Dude, I love the transformation music for Sailor Moon. It really hypes you up for the battles. Especially in the DiC dub where it’s got a magical feel to the tune yet is bombastic like at certain moments and this is without lyrics. Say what you will about the dub itself but DiC slapped in requires to the music and they didn’t need to go so hard on all of it but they did and I appreciate them for that.
To be Honest I would alternate the season five finale, but I get why the writers chose bloom to face off tritanus because it was the only way to burn the Trident, but In my alternate Vision I both see Bloom and Aisha using the inner Sirenix convergence where they both use Tide and Fire of Sirenix to Send tritanus flying, and Aisha Grabs the Trident and both bloom and Aisha break it together. Idk that’s my alternate version of episode 26, what about you guys, how would you change the scene where bloom destroys the trident?
Sailor Moon was ahead of it's time considering it was out in thre 90s , They had several LGBT couples (not only haruka and michiru ) we also have character with darker tones in a country where having the fairest skin is the norm like Pluto/Setsuna , but i do agree that there is any other race repsetention because pluto is just darker butt still japanesse ( i'm not sure ) , pluto inspiration was apparently model Naomi Campbell so.. but Winx Club win with Musa, Flora,Layla... ect but that all. Also sailor moon target audience was older than winx ; so inclunging LGBTQ character in winx would have been difficult at that time

Honestly if you compare the two, sailor Moon wins, especially since later winx club seasons are really not it. They ruined a really great show and let's not even start with the live action. They somehow also managed to make the show not winx club but 'bloom and friends' which is sad because personally I think that the first 3 seasons are great and I like them more than sailor Moon. But they totally ruined it. Winx transformations are cooler tho imo
Bothr my fave. We use to b characters in sailor Moon. Westill love them. My niece and I love Winx club. My kids seen sailor moon and saw me crying when they r crying, kids my kids say we will protect u and everyone. They also love sailor moon.

Without SM, there wont be Winx or tropes commonly found in magical girl genre (like transformation sequences) Audiences: i believe due to its legacy, Sailor Moon is much more well-known by the public. The sailor concepts became also integrated with both Japanese and Western pop culture. Winx on the other hand, might have a larger cult following, due to it being very niche to its target audience. There have been researches that SM surprisingly have more male audiences than females, while Winx is predominantly liked by females Presence: Winx has more presence than SM due to its family-friendly, toddler-friendly elements. Sailor Moon, just like many animes, features a lot of more mature elements such as LGBT+, sexual implications, nudity, female sexualization, blood, deaths, violence compared to Western cartoons. Longevity: Sailor Moon might win, for its legacy and for it being very much ahead of its time since its release and has touched on lots of topics that were considered taboos back then. Lots of elements in Sailor Moon were still discussed and admired even today.
I like both shows, but Winx Club will always be my favorite (seasons 1-3). I own it and rewatch it often. I never get tired of it. Though I will say my parents went through a phase where we were not allowed to watch magical things, which is when Sailor Moon was on (so I didn’t really get to grow up on it). I got to watch Winx as it released and had actually borrowed a tape from a neighbor to record the first episode when it aired because I had to attend a writing course during it. I watched that episode over and over that week. Haha. I also just like that Winx is lighter than Sailor Moon.
Winx Club was my childhood favorite, I watched all three dubs, 4kids, Cinelume/Rai, and Nickelodeon. And as much as I love this series, things can get confusing with the dubbing. And Winx seems to be losing it's unique spunk by Season 6+. Sailor Moon though, grows up with it's audience. That's something I love about that show too. So, I pretty much have my fingers tied. 🧚♀️🌙
I‘ve watched Winx Club but not Sailor Moon (I don’t know where to watch legally for free in a language that I understand 😐) but I like both (even though I didn’t watch Sailor Moon yet. But I‘m pretty sure that I‘ll like it when I can finally watch it). But I absolutely dislike Winx Club season 4-8, they‘re just boring, annoying, too childish and not even the transformations and looks are cool in my opinion.
i loved this video so much ive been watching winx and sailor moon since i was little so i cant choose! I agree with you that it is sad that the sailor guardians never really fall in love like sailor moon does. They are all actually royalty also! All the girls have a kingdom and are princesses except musa really
i grew up with sailor moon.. and i learned so much from it. I dare to say i am who i am because of it. I really do love winx club too buuuut we can really compare them. Sailor Moon is on a whole other level.
Have you ever heard of Precure? It’s a magical girl anime similar to Sailor Moon, but not exactly the same. It’s created by the same company as Sailor Moon, but honestly I prefer Precure to Sailor Moon. Precure had different seasons that each focus on a team of different magical girls with different themes. (Except for the two sequel seasons.) There are 19 total seasons of Precure. (It’s been going on since 2004.) Only a few seasons have been subbed, and 3 have been dubbed. Two of the dubbed seasons however have been butchered into Glitter Force which, is a dub I do not recommend. The seasons that have been officially dubbed are Futari Wa Precure, Kira Kira Precure Alamode, Healin’❤️Good Precure, Tropical Rouge Precure, and the current airing season Delicious Party Precure.
I absolutely LOVE Sailor Moon, but could never get into Winx, it felt too much like a copy of W.i.t.c.h. (Even one of the side characters of Winx looks exactly like Will)
As someone who watched BOTH series in childhood, but watched winx MORE, I can say I'm perfectly acceptable of everything, and I do feel okay if I ever felt that both shows were similar, cause funnily I remember confusing WITCH for winx when I was younger, but I wasn't taking it as a problem l, and was actually enjoying it.
sailor moon solos their universe with the blink of an eye . sailor moon started it for every magical girl series out there!!! so winx definitely knows their place. i’ll give winx one for their character designs and style but other than that the crown goes to sailor moon plain and simple. characters . storyline. everything

the relationships between the four generals and the inner senshis were confirmed by Naoko in the very first sailor moon art book where she drew a group picture with all four cupels
I'm a sucker for both franchises, but I think Sailor Moon is better. The reason is, that Winx feels like they only put the spotlight on Bloom. In every season (till 4) it is only on her story/backstory and thats in my opinion so anoying. They could have named the show Bloom then and not Winx 🙄

When it comes to characters and storywise sailor moon wins for me. Characters are much more entertaining, interesting and different enough to like them. Plus they each have some weaknesses (that have sad stories behind) but it gives depth to each one of them. At the beginning winx were different too but with time they all kind of behave the same and you kind of start lose interest in them. Storywise sailor moon has its own mistakes but atleast it does not have a big impact of the story (none that I now atleast). Winx stories sometimes just lack a bit of logic and uniqueness. In short I feel much more entertained watching Sailor Moon.
I'm all for Sailor Moon. The main character here is much better, cuter and more interesting (I think that Bloom is a regular Mary Sue), the story too (in Winx they just took the story of Sailor Moon and simplified it very much), the humor in Sailor Moon is just great, at that time as in Winx it is simply not there, the music in Sailor Moon is rightfully considered one of the best in the history of anime, while in Winx I can single out only 3-4 more or less worthy compositions, everything else sounds like a pop song in a clothing store. And most importantly, Sailor Moon is interesting to watch for both teenagers and adults, because there are very epic battles (in some moments there was even blood), a warm, nostalgic atmosphere (which in Winx is equal to the atmosphere in a plastic-smelling toy store) and deep meaning and philosophy, which were in Winx only in the third season and a little in the fourth. But I remind you that this is all just my opinion and I do not encourage anyone to hate Winx.
Bloom is not an Mary sue it just that after season 4 the other company that took over winx club made character totally different not juste Bloom but every other characters the even changed the stories
Wouldnt a W.I.T.C.H. vs winx club be more appropiate as a matchup? Their both french shows, girls turn into faries and fight evil, W.I.T.C.H. even has an evil prince who lives in a castle and throws magical beast at the cast, they both have paladins and knights. I love original Sailor Moon. But I like Winx Club too. But I have only seen the first three seasons of Winx so I feel like I cant compare them because I have seen every episode on Sailor Moon in Japanese.
Im a fan of both but pitting winx club against sailor moon ain’t fair. Sailor moon will always come out on top it basically made what “magical girls” are today.
n terms of which made more money? Sailor Moon is better. In terms of LGBTQ+ representation? Sailor Moon is better. Those are the only things Sailor Moon is better in, that’s just my opinion, Winx has much more realistic female characters and better portrayal of feminism and much more diverse cast that any girl can identify with in ethnicity and personality. The plot is also much better. I love Sailor Moon too (of course I have seen it, or else I wouldn’t be comparing these two shows) but this is just my opinion. Of course Sailor Moon inspired Winx so I want to make it clear I’m not trying to hate on it I love Sailor Moon very much!

Grew up in the 90’s so naturally I love sailor moon. I liked Winx Club but while the first 3 seasons standoff as strong with the first film being the only film that I truly acknowledge as worth any time. After you get beyond that point the obviousness of it’s downfall was easily visible by season 4 onward. Specifically the inconsistencies in relation to information given. Many of the details within later series pretty much tear away at much of what happened in seasons 1-3 and in all honesty made the series hard to stand after. Not to mention villains and change in animation along with the adding of CGI. When it comes down to what the creator should’ve continued with after S3 of WC ended his Huntix series in comparison to the direction Winx Club went after season 3 would’ve been a better choice to proceed with. It had promise that’s for sure but after the first film it pretty much was where it needed to stop for me when S4 and 5 couldn’t deliver. But it’s all good at least miraculous ladybug is the latest in a great magical girl series that delivers.
now if these two groups came to blows i think winx club would win due to their magic continuing to grow and they have defensive spells not just physical attacks while sailor scouts have to change forms by an object and only have physical attacks

I adore winx club but it got too inconsistent especially with the relationships, transformations etc and don't get me started on the reboot, sailor moon was the blueprint and was somewhat consistent.. The end of winx season 5 always got me mad ugh and Nabu's death !!

I only watched Winx club, but WC started off really strong with it's first 3 seasons. They had the time to build up each character's personalities, and by extension their powers, it was mostly consistent (with word building and power scaling and magic system). Although it was regarded as very kid friendly, Winx wasn't trying to shy away from certain things like the alleged murder of Bloom's birth parents, and even main character deaths (they killed flora on the third season on screen by drowning her although she was revived right after). The forth season was an interesting situation, because they tried to make it both more mature, and simultaneously kid friendly. For example they made character dialogue much simpler, cliche and childish, color palette was way brighter and sparkly almost to the point of being overwhelming lmao but also they took the risk of letting the main characters age and grow up by becoming adults, and managing responsibilities like money, and also killing another main character (Nabu) on screen (and he stayed dead). And although it wasn't as beloved as the first three seasons, it's generally regarded as a good season with a really interesting concept. 95% of the fanbase agrees that season 5-8 shouldn't have happened and are a waste of time (and braincells) since it's too childish, inconsistent, boring, etc.
I literally don't think it would ever be consider to be "childish" or realize any difference from the seasons until recently hearing other people, and it's all just the same to me. I at least consider season 5 with my nostalgia of seasons 1,2, and 4

Winx Seasons 1-3 I enjoyed, seasons 5-8 are letdown because they kiddified them completely but especially season 8 is flop lmao.
I have mixed opinions on Winx season 4, but you can see season 5 of Winx nickelodeon cheesy kiddified dialogue,… but I will say I liked Harmonix, Tynix, Mythix, and some transform from seasons 5 but Enchantix will always be supreme in my heart.

I think than one of the bigest diffrences is than the Sailors are special, in the sense than especialy in the manga they are the guardians of the most powerfull thing in the universe the Silver Crystal and by exention its holder Serenity, it's their God given mission to defend them. While anyone can be a Winx, at the end the Winx is just a friend grup, what makes them special is their willingness to be in the front line along with their experience in fighting the Trix it's also the reason for witch they are often sent to do mission by Faragonda or other peopole. The Sailor have to fight no matter what, the winx insead choose to fight. If the Sailor don't Fight the world gose kaput, instead anybody can do what the winx do they are replaceable in that sense (with the exeption of Bloom)

@@kerimbabic6124 Yes it is, the Winx are more relatable than the Sailors under that aspect, but especialy in the manga Sailor Moon's story is more a mitology kinda like the stories of anciant gods (Zeus, Athena exe...) and those stories are not supose to ve relatable they are supose to teach something about the world. In the final atcs of the manga Eternal Sailor Moon is faced with the question if it is better to not live at all or live a life full of suffering and she needs to take that decision for the entire universe. Winx instead focus more on singular charcters and their arcs rather than the bigger world, even in the 90s anime none of the Sailors have real characters arcs exept for Moon, Chibimoon. Yeh they do have their issues but they are usualy resolved by the end of the episode and they are never mentioned again unlike in Winx Club when we can see the girls growing and dealing with their inner demons. They are diffrent but one isn't better than the other.

@@darlingyouidiot- Technically all of them do. Rei’s clairvoyance and connection to fire is still active as is the way she uses scrolls. Plus she can fight fight. Ami can use her mini computer outside of her senshi form while her intelligence and ability to strategize are a natural part of her. Though not as prominent as in the manga it is indicated that Ami has a connection to the water even in civilian form. This is shown in S3 where while swimming she thinks about how she feels at one with water especially when around or in it.
Both shows paved the way for other magical girl shows that came after it.

I didn't really took the time to watch consistently Winx Club so here it goes my one and only opinion about Sailor Moo. So, without any comparison i can say that Sailor Moon is so loved bc of the story and representation, they have lgbt characters (not often very well put on some Dubs) but Naoko actually was aware about what she was giving: a story about a normal girl who discovers her true identity and has to fight evil to save the world, she was a true feminist and empowered a tons of young girls by creating such powerful girl heroes. Even if they didn't match the girly stereotype (like Haruka, Seiya and Makoto) and decided to put the man aside, being Mamoru a prince and the guardian of the golden crystal, he is not taking any of the Sailors place, cause the Sailor Senshi are the warriors, they fight against everything and sacrifices a lot. I just love how SM also has formed it's own family, not only duty or friendship. Actually, Michiru, Haruka, Setsuna and Hotaru became a whole family and that changed the normative for a lot of generations who still need to normalize the diversity of the families.
The thing is I love all Sailor Moon seasons but I only love 4 out of 8 seasons from winx

I grew up watching the Winx, but watching both nowadays, Sailor Moon is definitely better, except for the transformation sequences (but even that isn't too surprising since Sailor Moon basically set the tone for every other magical girl's who came after). I also think even the Sailor's personalities are better than the Winx's... Sailor Mars is the best developed senshi apart from Sailor Moon, but even Jupiter or Mercury have their own personalities. Venus' is very close to Sailor Moon's bc she's an alternative protagonist of Naoko Takeuchi but even so, she stays pretty much true to herself. Winx Club could have been pretty close but as the seasons went on the Winx lost their personalities. Musa isn't tomboyish anymore, Tecna isn't angry or critical, and Aisha isn't as combative.... Winx was good for my childhood imagination but Sailor Moon is a series you can actually rewatch now and feel implicated in.
As someone who is also an older winx fan since childhood, I can say without a problem, I can perfectly accept all of its stuff, I try not to think or point its boring so I can actually like it.

Sailor Moon is the reason I was drawn to Winx Club. Also, Iginio Straffi stated that Winx Club was inspired by Sailor Moon. As much as I enjoy both of them Sailor Moon is by far the superior magical girl show. Winx Club started off strong but in the later seasons (the inconsistency with the 2nd movie & seasons 5-8) it began to go downhill.

I remember having a mutual on DeviantArt who had an erupting hatred for Winx Club because she thought it was a Sailor Moon rip-off (and would even make hate art of it as well), mostly because the two shows are magical girl genre.
Quite frankly, she called every show she hated a rip-off of something she liked, even if the two shows have nothing in common (Like Kim Possible with Sally Bollywood).
On the bright side, she matured out of it and likes Winx Club now.
I actually just rewatched both of these series. I love them both but I would have to say Sailor is better but Winx’s earlier seasons are better than any of Sailor Moon. Wind is only worse because of the later seasons being miserable to get thought and ruining the continuity of the earlier good season (1-4).

I love them both as well, but personally I don't like to compare the two only bc they're two different interpretations on magical girls with a few overlapping themes like friendship, magic, girl power etc. That being said, I agree with you lol, the earlier seasons of Winx were ELITE, while Sailor Moon aired during a time where fans weren't all that familiar (or bored) with the "Monster of the day" plot. I liked that the reboot tried to rectify this, following the manga more closely but yeah, Sailor Moon Crystal Seasons 1 and 2 were okay. I don't love it. I really enjoyed Season 3 though. 😍

i’ve watched both and what you said is literally the reverse. the sailor moon earlier seasons aren’t going to just be credited for nostalgia but it’s storyline is so unique. sailor moon started off strong and ended strong despite anything personal you have against it. the main characters, villains, their backstories and their abilities were way more thought out than just a team of girls with fairy wings. and you can take literally any episode of sailor moon and it’ll have way more emotional value than anything winx could ever put out!!! usagi alone was a more complex and emotional character than the whole winx franchise lol. the sailor senshi friendship was more realistic too. and don’t even get me started with the love relationships!!! to me, bloom and sky was literally like bella swan and edward. he appeared and suddenly everyone knew they were perfect together. it was flat and lacked such an interesting backstory . sailor moon was nothing like that … i could go on

I'd say, I prefer Winx because it's not as formulaic and doesn't drag on as much as Sailor Moon's seasons often tend to do. I also simply have way more nostalgia for it, ngl. Winx Club's first three seasons are very strong and felt like they were always progressing while Sailor Moon had way more of a status quo that didn't really change much outside of new characters and power upgrades. I love the darker tone of Sailor Moon and would probably like it better if it wasn't as long and had a stronger plot progression, though it has a way more consistent quality than Winx Club, considering how the latter massively went downhill from season 5 onwards (partly season 4).
I still love both shows to death and appreciate them for similar and different reasons. They'll always have a special place in my heart.
Well 90s anime dragged on storyline, Sailor Moon Crystal doesn’t thats why I love Crystal anime and don’t like 90s anime. Yeah Winx Club was golden in its first 3 seasons because it developed the characters but then season 5-8 don’t do that much and are kiddified especially season 8 which is complete flop.

It was still a part of my teenage life, Winx just ran on TV more as anime isn't very popular in my country, so I got into it earlier.
I think I liked sailor moon more just for the FACT they weren't afraid to show lgbt characters unlike winx club.
There's at least 3 different showing of this in Sailor Moon, 2 as a couple and one single.
In the 1st, the 3ed and 4th seasons. The first is the last 2 Generals, Malachite and Zoicite. The next were Sailors Neptune and Uranus, and the last was Fisheye, who is either trans, in transition, or a Drag Queen, I was never really sure, but Fisheye WAS gay so....
There might have been more, but these are the most prominent ones that I remember.

@block8661 No, the American dub made him (them?) female like they did with Zoicite. DIC, who were the ones that got it, didn't want to "promote that lifestyle". And they censored a lot of episodes or just took out episodes and didn't air them at all. From what I hear, the redubs are ALL the episodes with none of the censorship from the original '90's dub, and all 5 seasons that us '90's kids didn't get. And we didn't get the 5th season 'cuz the 3 new scouts were female to male transgenders half the time.

To be honest, I tried to watch Winx once. But it was somekind of... Weird. I don't know why. Maybe because of the story, or animations, or characters.
While SM series were always able to make me laugh, cry, worry about characters. Not only good characters, but bad ones as well. And these backgrounds of music, backviews like cosmic dimension of city, or any other location - were adding more tension of excitement to "what will happen next?"
Maybe this happened because I saw SM when I was 7 y.o.
And Winx was watched by me in 14 y.o.
And I actually rejected most of manga aspects, except the plot of Galactic Cauldron and Chaos - these were quite good ideas. It turned upside-down the whole understanding how far SM lore could go.
I'm sure Winx has a rich lore too, but wasn't interested in it. Don't know why.

Dude, I love the transformation music for Sailor Moon. It really hypes you up for the battles. Especially in the DiC dub where it’s got a magical feel to the tune yet is bombastic like at certain moments and this is without lyrics. Say what you will about the dub itself but DiC slapped in requires to the music and they didn’t need to go so hard on all of it but they did and I appreciate them for that.

To be Honest I would alternate the season five finale, but I get why the writers chose bloom to face off tritanus because it was the only way to burn the Trident, but In my alternate Vision I both see Bloom and Aisha using the inner Sirenix convergence where they both use Tide and Fire of Sirenix to Send tritanus flying, and Aisha Grabs the Trident and both bloom and Aisha break it together. Idk that’s my alternate version of episode 26, what about you guys, how would you change the scene where bloom destroys the trident?

Also sailor moon target audience was older than winx ; so inclunging LGBTQ character in winx would have been difficult at that time

I grew up with Winx and not Sailor Moon but really it's just a primer for it. Even without nostalgia for the latter I can guarantee you it's better.
Honestly if you compare the two, sailor Moon wins, especially since later winx club seasons are really not it. They ruined a really great show and let's not even start with the live action. They somehow also managed to make the show not winx club but 'bloom and friends' which is sad because personally I think that the first 3 seasons are great and I like them more than sailor Moon. But they totally ruined it. Winx transformations are cooler tho imo

I don't think bloom delivering the final blow is her being similar to Sailor Moon. I think it has more to do with them being the main character, rather than them sharing a similarity.

Impact: Sailor Moon gave birth to the magical girls trope. Without SM, there wont be Winx or tropes commonly found in magical girl genre (like transformation sequences)
Audiences: i believe due to its legacy, Sailor Moon is much more well-known by the public. The sailor concepts became also integrated with both Japanese and Western pop culture. Winx on the other hand, might have a larger cult following, due to it being very niche to its target audience. There have been researches that SM surprisingly have more male audiences than females, while Winx is predominantly liked by females
Presence: Winx has more presence than SM due to its family-friendly, toddler-friendly elements. Sailor Moon, just like many animes, features a lot of more mature elements such as LGBT+, sexual implications, nudity, female sexualization, blood, deaths, violence compared to Western cartoons.
Longevity: Sailor Moon might win, for its legacy and for it being very much ahead of its time since its release and has touched on lots of topics that were considered taboos back then. Lots of elements in Sailor Moon were still discussed and admired even today.
I like both shows, but Winx Club will always be my favorite (seasons 1-3). I own it and rewatch it often. I never get tired of it. Though I will say my parents went through a phase where we were not allowed to watch magical things, which is when Sailor Moon was on (so I didn’t really get to grow up on it). I got to watch Winx as it released and had actually borrowed a tape from a neighbor to record the first episode when it aired because I had to attend a writing course during it. I watched that episode over and over that week. Haha. I also just like that Winx is lighter than Sailor Moon.

Winx Club was my childhood favorite, I watched all three dubs, 4kids, Cinelume/Rai, and Nickelodeon. And as much as I love this series, things can get confusing with the dubbing. And Winx seems to be losing it's unique spunk by Season 6+. Sailor Moon though, grows up with it's audience. That's something I love about that show too. So, I pretty much have my fingers tied.

Have you ever heard of Precure? It’s a magical girl anime similar to Sailor Moon, but not exactly the same. It’s created by the same company as Sailor Moon, but honestly I prefer Precure to Sailor Moon. Precure had different seasons that each focus on a team of different magical girls with different themes. (Except for the two sequel seasons.) There are 19 total seasons of Precure. (It’s been going on since 2004.) Only a few seasons have been subbed, and 3 have been dubbed. Two of the dubbed seasons however have been butchered into Glitter Force which, is a dub I do not recommend. The seasons that have been officially dubbed are Futari Wa Precure, Kira Kira Precure Alamode, Healin’❤️Good Precure, Tropical Rouge Precure, and the current airing season Delicious Party Precure.

As someone who watched BOTH series in childhood, but watched winx MORE, I can say I'm perfectly acceptable of everything, and I do feel okay if I ever felt that both shows were similar, cause funnily I remember confusing WITCH for winx when I was younger, but I wasn't taking it as a problem l, and was actually enjoying it.

I'm a sucker for both franchises, but I think Sailor Moon is better. The reason is, that Winx feels like they only put the spotlight on Bloom. In every season (till 4) it is only on her story/backstory and thats in my opinion so anoying. They could have named the show Bloom then and not Winx 🙄

It's difficult to say which of the two is stronger, as their abilities and power levels vary throughout their respective series. However, both Sailor Moon and Bloom are strong and powerful heroines who have defeated many dangerous enemies and saved their respective worlds multiple times.
When it comes to characters and storywise sailor moon wins for me. Characters are much more entertaining, interesting and different enough to like them. Plus they each have some weaknesses (that have sad stories behind) but it gives depth to each one of them. At the beginning winx were different too but with time they all kind of behave the same and you kind of start lose interest in them. Storywise sailor moon has its own mistakes but atleast it does not have a big impact of the story (none that I now atleast). Winx stories sometimes just lack a bit of logic and uniqueness.
In short I feel much more entertained watching Sailor Moon.

I'm all for Sailor Moon. The main character here is much better, cuter and more interesting (I think that Bloom is a regular Mary Sue), the story too (in Winx they just took the story of Sailor Moon and simplified it very much), the humor in Sailor Moon is just great, at that time as in Winx it is simply not there, the music in Sailor Moon is rightfully considered one of the best in the history of anime, while in Winx I can single out only 3-4 more or less worthy compositions, everything else sounds like a pop song in a clothing store. And most importantly, Sailor Moon is interesting to watch for both teenagers and adults, because there are very epic battles (in some moments there was even blood), a warm, nostalgic atmosphere (which in Winx is equal to the atmosphere in a plastic-smelling toy store) and deep meaning and philosophy, which were in Winx only in the third season and a little in the fourth. But I remind you that this is all just my opinion and I do not encourage anyone to hate Winx.
Bloom is not an Mary sue it just that after season 4 the other company that took over winx club made character totally different not juste Bloom but every other characters the even changed the stories
Wouldnt a W.I.T.C.H. vs winx club be more appropiate as a matchup?
Their both french shows, girls turn into faries and fight evil, W.I.T.C.H. even has an evil prince who lives in a castle and throws magical beast at the cast, they both have paladins and knights.
W.I.T.C.H came before winx and is the original before winx club half-assed copied their work.

I love original Sailor Moon. But I like Winx Club too. But I have only seen the first three seasons of Winx so I feel like I cant compare them because I have seen every episode on Sailor Moon in Japanese.

n terms of which made more money? Sailor Moon is better. In terms of LGBTQ+ representation? Sailor Moon is better. Those are the only things Sailor Moon is better in, that’s just my opinion, Winx has much more realistic female characters and better portrayal of feminism and much more diverse cast that any girl can identify with in ethnicity and personality. The plot is also much better. I love Sailor Moon too (of course I have seen it, or else I wouldn’t be comparing these two shows) but this is just my opinion. Of course Sailor Moon inspired Winx so I want to make it clear I’m not trying to hate on it I love Sailor Moon very much!

@@darlingyouidiot yeah, i know, but theres also many characters that arent from Japan, that are literally from outer space but ofc theres nothing wrong with them being Japanese, it just makes it easier when theres someone you look like to relate to that character which is probably one of the many reasons why Winx was so successful in not just Europe.

Grew up in the 90’s so naturally I love sailor moon. I liked Winx Club but while the first 3 seasons standoff as strong with the first film being the only film that I truly acknowledge as worth any time. After you get beyond that point the obviousness of it’s downfall was easily visible by season 4 onward. Specifically the inconsistencies in relation to information given. Many of the details within later series pretty much tear away at much of what happened in seasons 1-3 and in all honesty made the series hard to stand after. Not to mention villains and change in animation along with the adding of CGI. When it comes down to what the creator should’ve continued with after S3 of WC ended his Huntix series in comparison to the direction Winx Club went after season 3 would’ve been a better choice to proceed with. It had promise that’s for sure but after the first film it pretty much was where it needed to stop for me when S4 and 5 couldn’t deliver. But it’s all good at least miraculous ladybug is the latest in a great magical girl series that delivers.

now if these two groups came to blows i think winx club would win due to their magic continuing to grow and they have defensive spells not just physical attacks while sailor scouts have to change forms by an object and only have physical attacks
