    In this episode of 2:00 Lessons (that is a little over 3:00), Lemmy talks about getting your motorcycle off of the ground. Whether it is a motorcycle jack, or a simple stand, doing this correctly will make your life a heck of a lot easier when doing some of the most basic pieces of routine maintenance.

    I wish center stands were a more common manufacture option than they appear to be now. Great short video.

    A note of important here. Lemmy comments that it's necessary to see the lowest hanging part on your bike, and uses a street glide as example. If you're like me and have something built on the Dyna platform, the lowest hanging part is NOT the frame, but the underside of the transmission case. The pads on a typical motorcycle lift aren't far enough apart to go to the frame on either side of the tranny case, so you have to find another option. HD sells frame supports that you can snap onto the frame which will then allow you to use a bike lift, or you can modify a the lift so the pads are wide enough to let the low bits dangle between the pads and lift on the frame. There are youtube vids around that show how to make the mods if you decide to go that way.

    Lemmy mentions shock replacement. I used a $5 sawhorse bracket, some 2x4's and ratchet straps to make an A-frame to lift my bike from the subframe. Short of getting a $400 motorcycle lift, it's the best way.

    Thanks a lot bro, I got a vintage from 1979 so I got to do most maintenance and repairs by myself, and I was split whether to get a lift or a jack, now o guess a jack is my go to since I always need to change fork oil, and take whole engine apart

    Lem - Off topic here but hoping you see as this is a newer vid...your Road King video...one of the "dislikes" was the saddle...you mention something about having a LePera Maverick on an in house Street Glide I believe...how awesome is it? Been looking for something from them and or competitor...seats are tough to figure out as you cant really "test" them over a long ride. Any insight would be helpful...thanks

    Don't do major work with just the center stand. I took both wheels off my R1150R whilst it was on the stand, and you guessed it the balance changed and it tipped forward off the stand. Lucky the underside is tough and with two car jacks under the cylinders I was able to get it up again.

  • @EverymanJWL
    @EverymanJWL 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man my dual sport (Kawi super sherpa is too big to lift on to a stand and too small for the front/rear stand option (I think). This is one mystery as a new Rider that continues to confuse me as to what I should try or order. I need something that gets both wheels up so I can take the wheels off, replace the chain, change the oil etc. A 5-gallon Home Depot bucket kind of does the trick but it's hard to get up and on and off. And damages the bucket.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the FZ-07, you'll need at least a rear stand. For any work on the fork or front wheel removal, you'll also need a front stand. Trackside make really affordable options, while Pit Bull make really high quality options. -DrewZilla

    I hate my bike for this, its a naked bike so it doesnt have a centre stand, the dust covers on the bottom cant support the weight of the bike and the designers didnt think to add any holes for the swingarm spools to go in.

  • @adriantube487
    @adriantube487 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is really simple, if you just ride your bike and have a mecanic and don’t work on your bike buy a piece of wood really to wood that thing from falling, if you work on your bike don’t go cheap on the lift or stand, yo need a stand that you can at leat stap one strap to secure it, thats it

      Since it's a model of a race bike, they went super detailed by mounting racing slicks, which don't have a tread. Gotta make sure you get some miniature tire warmers, too. Otherwise, you'll lowside when taking that first turn too fast on your tabletop race track! -DrewZilla
