Thank you for featuring Hagane (pronounced HA-ga-neh). They have to be considered one of the hot, up and coming groups, though they had to go through a major reboot in 2023. “Hagane” has multiple meanings in Japanese but the main meaning is “Steel”. Given the trials and tribulations they have survived, the name is appropriate. They were originally a five-piece with dual leads; they have recently re-formed as a four piece (more on that below). The initial lineup came together in 2018, just as they were all finishing high school. Founding guitarist Sakura had been posting metal covers on youtube since she was 14, and gained notoriety as a technical beast with a taste for ferocious shredding. That is how most of the other band-members found her. Original lineup: Vocal: Chiemi Guitar : Sakura Yoshida (also writes and arranges most of the music) Guitar : Mayto Bass : Sayaka Drum : Kanako Takahashi (b. 2001) In 2019, Chiemi left and was replaced by Uyu. The band released three concert DVDs and a full-length album (“Code 9021”) during her tenure. From that lineup: “Soul Beats”: th-cam.com/video/k8NTRJ_yTxY/w-d-xo.html The rhythm line seamlessly melds rock and funk throughout. The guitar solo is classic jazz fusion, but with distortion. The heavy use of minor and diminished scales gives it a vaguely middle-eastern vibe, but jacked up to searing intensity. “Super Villan” th-cam.com/video/MCqzm0nUxbM/w-d-xo.html Huge guitar duel, with give and take and a lot of experimental ideas. “Black Cult” th-cam.com/video/LCheI6-MWhY/w-d-xo.html From their most recently released album, another with lots of musical ideas, more guitar dueling, and powerful vocals from Uyu. In early 2023, the band announced the departures of three members-Uyu, Mayto and Kanako. They spent the next year rebuilding. They have re-formed as a four-piece, with the already famous Junna on drums. Junna was previously one of the original members of Kakumei (later rebranded as Trident), and has a popular youtube channel where she posts hyperactive solo drum covers of metal songs. New vocalist Nagi has replaced Uyu. This is her first professional gig. Hagane 3.0: Guitars: Sakura Bass: Sayaka Drums: Junna Vocals: Nagi Hagane are clearly playing in a similar space as groups like Mary’s Blood, Bridear, Nemophila and Lovebites-melodic, hard, heavy and technical. Early on, however, they developed their own signature sound, built around exotic scales, syncopated rhythms and the aforementioned high-octane shredding. Their songwriting is mature, far beyond what you should be able to expect from a bunch of people this young. The new lineup have released an EP, “Life Goes On”, with five tracks including an instrumental. Despite not having the dual attack, it looks like they haven’t lost a step. Junna brings her trademark insanity on the drums, and Sakura is just on fire. Here are two tracks: “Tengagoken” (official video): th-cam.com/video/GhMamN_DBO4/w-d-xo.html and “Hero Time”, (official live): th-cam.com/video/-uIGtQNesx0/w-d-xo.html Other bandmembers: Uyu formed her own band, which largely focuses on covers of other metal groups, especially Babymetal. She and Mayto also co-founded a band called Mana Diagram, with three other members. They have all worked on other projects. Kanako is also an elite musician and has been in a couple of bands since leaving Hagane.
Former Hágane: 3 of 5 members left. All thought: "That was it." "New" Hágane (= current line-up): The new drummer (Junna) and the new singer (Nagi) joined. Result: _Perfect_ fit, _perfect_ chemistry, on world class level, as we all can watch. What a surpriseful transformation. Phenomenal.
Everyone who is reacting to HAGANE and love them gets a thumb's up from me - because this band is my current "absolute love"! I like their music and style (composed by Sakura and most of the lyrics by Sakura too) very much, and I appreciate and love very much too the virtuosity of the musicians. Sakura was a child prodigy who started guitar at the age of 7 (Check her TH-cam channel) ; Junna of course is in her own reign of drumming; Sayaka a very solid, fast, super professional bassist and loyal to Sakura at the point where HAGANE was about to die when three of their members left the band; and the singer Nagi who is - as I read somewhere - a graduate of a highly appreciated music school and delivers her skill in her very first band with HAGANE (she has a new TH-cam channel too and there you can hear her real impressing skill and ability to express deep emotions). Junna btw left her original band in 2021, worked then as a studio and session drummer, was engaged in various projects, toured with Marty Friedman (ex Megadeth) on his Japan tour (in 2022), toured as a guest drummer with Fate Gear on their European tour in 2023 (where I had the chance to meet her in person and got an autograph 🤩🤭...) and again with Fate Gear on their Canadian tour in 2024. HAGANE announced a release of new songs in springtime (May or so) of this year - so I'm pretty expectant to what they will present to us! - Please keep an eye on this wonderful newly reformed Japanese metal band!!!
Hágane released their current EP "Life goes on!" just a few months ago. _Amazing_ production. Absolutely recommendable. "Hero Time" is on it, it is similarly moving like "Start Out Journey".
Check out their other videos...'Hero time' 'life goes on' and 'Tenka goken.' Junna of course has no peers, she is totally a 'one off' and even El Estapario Siberiano called her " the final boss of the drums." 'Nagi' the singer is in the same class, as are Sakura and Sayaka, guitar and bassist respectively. These ladies are the most tuneful and melodic metal band out there and I love them. Great reaction by the way.
Heartwarming reaction, thank you so much. 🙏 Lovebites, Nemophila, Hanabie, Hágane: Japan just _spoils_ us with all-female Metal excellence. Keep discovering them, that is _never_ a waste of time. They are worth our attention. DE/GER
Great reaction, love your comments. Yes, Junna is Hagane drummer. Sakura guitarist created the band in 2018. Three members left in 2022, including drummer. Nagi is new vocalist, such a beautiful voice. And Junna is their drummer. Have Followed and love both :Tamu and Junna on drums.
JUNNA used to be the founder of Girl Rock Band Kakumei but after graduating in 2020 the band's name changed to TRIDENT until now... and in 2024 she joined HAGANE along with the Vocalist also in 2024, because in 2023 HAGANE lost 3 of its members (Vocalist, Guitarist & Drummer) and with the presence of Junna as drummer and Nagi as Vocalist they came back again by releasing the Mini Album "Life Goes On!" with 5 Tracks... 3 track music (TenkaGoken, HeroTime & Life goes on) and 2 track Instrumentals (Victoire & DATT), then not long after that they released the single "Start Our Journey" as the closing song in 2024 and also as a new era journey from HAGANE... and a little info the founder of HAGANE is Sakura (current Guitarist) and with her loyal member Sayaka (current Bassist) and this band was formed in 2018 with the Melodic Power Metal genre.
and also fun fact besides JUNNA who used to be very famous because of some of her drum covers like when she covered the song Through the Fire and Flames and was noticed by the Drummer of DragonForce, Sakura (Guitarist) also experienced the same thing because with her talent in playing guitar and many of her covers of songs like DragonForce and others she was also noticed by DragonForce on their official account a few years ago same as JUNNA. and interestingly these 2 talented people suddenly joined one band.
With Sakura and Junna, I think the sound was always going to be Dragonforce style power metal. Both seem to work well together at pace, and Nagi's vocals are gorgeous over the top. On this track I love how we can hear Sayaka's bass under it all.
