Full highlights from Wembley Arena as Malaysia's Chong Wei Lee takes on China's Chen Long in the semi-final of the men's badminton singles at the London 2012 Olympic Games (3 August 2012).
Badminton made its debut as a demonstration sport at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. It was not until the 1992 Games in Barcelona that it was officially included on the Olympic programme, with men's and women's singles and doubles events. The mixed doubles event made its debut in 1996 at the Atlanta Olympic Games. Since then, the number of events has remained unchanged.

China has multiple final - caliber men single players. Therefore, they have high chance to force all China finals in any tournament or, in this case exhaust LCW and increase the other Chinese player’s chance to win (London 2012 CL in SF and LD in F, Rio 2016 LD in SF and CL in F). Their regeneration is crazy, Yang Yang, Chen Hong, Chen Jin, Wang Zheng Ming, Xia Xuan Ze, Chen Yu, Lin Dan, Bao Chun Lai, Tian Hou Wei, Du Peng Yu, Chen Long, Shi Yu Qi... They used to dominate women sectors too, until recent rise of Japan. In mixed double and men double, the competition is more spread because we have multiple strong doubles from South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Denmark, Great Britain.
That should not be an excuse. Lin Dan won the World Championship 2013 facing CL and LCW. The same happened in ASIAD 2014
@@pizzaboy6877 well guess what China closed the aircon in 2013 that’s why lee Chong wei cramped and lost lindan and his coaching staff probably prepared lindan for it which is why he adapted way better in the 3rd set

@@pizzaboy6877 did u not understand he led cuz lee Chong wei already started cramping when they were at the start of the third set lol the coaches even complained about the whole incident when it was happening apparently they closed it in the second set cuz lindan was standing at the more windy set and lee Chong wei unexpectedly won the first set in the windy side so once lindan switched to that side the Chinese organisers closed the ac and then lee Chong Eli couldn’t adapt to it as well as lindan did idk what the China coaches did but lin Dan was way better prepared for the change in temperature than lee Chong wei lol

Chong Wei sets up a fast pace game from the very beginning, which Chen Long didn't expect. Four years later, Chen Long used the same game plan against Chong Wei in Rio, which didn't give the older Chong Wei time to warm up and catch a breath.

Yep, 2012 was his prime. As many players have said, they are in a completely different mental ans physical state in major tournament, particularly in olympics, which is why its worth so much. So..
@@jiachernglee4537 And here was LCW defeated CL in a major tournament. Without LD, no one could have stopped him at that time. His confidence level in major tournaments also became low because of many defeats to LD.
