I live in Grand Rapids where those floor sweepers were made. I see them at almost every estate sale I go to! Didn't expect to see one all the way across the ocean!
In this programme they make out like the cleaners are there to help them with the cleaning but it seems they make a few suggestions of what to do and then leave the people to organise and clean by themselves!

Sometimes I feel curtis really stops himself getting more money for things. He could have waited to see how much the ladybird books were being offered for before saying. It's happened so many times in shows.
I think he is under time constraints. Also, as he says quite often: he is selling to people who will have to make a profiit on the items too. So, I do not know if you are correct.
Maybe it's my OCD but it still didn't look that great at the end. Still too much little stuff all over. My opinion.
Oh, Darling...it is so easy to manage to collect that much stuff and more. It is easier if you are a compulsively neat person who cannot clean a closet without first taking everything out of it and repairing and repainting it. Then you find that you simply do not have the energy to do it all so you just leave it and then another thing is put in and before you know it you have a wonderful hoard!!
I totally get that. But you finish that project before you start another. It’s not rocket science and it’s not hard. That kind of stuff is behavioral and they just don’t want to finish that project. My closets and cupboards were always very neat even if the rest of my house was messy so I do understand. But you just tell yourself you have to finish what you started before moving on.
@@debbiepotter4592 You make perfect good sense, but this is not how some of us with ADHD or Asperger's or Dyslexia are able to function. Our brains are not wired tat way. I am Aspi and in a way, a neat freak, but by the same token, if I suddenly get ideas for new projects, I cannot not start on it. I might not be able to sleep otherwise (and do not mention medication, that is the great satan as our brains really do not work like most people's, and doctors very seldom know how to prescribe to us). So, I have painntings, stories, craft projects which have been started and are being continued alternatively. And I collect vintage crockery. Fortunately...the stories are on computer!!

At one point my mum had a cook book collection of over 1000! Now she has definitely lowered that number al lot, though now we have tons of books of different genres 💀.I don’t consider her a hoarder, if we have to much stuff she can get rid of things, but we do both enjoy collecting and just like filling our spaces with things we enjoy and things we like doing

That 'expert' hasn't a clue about books. Modern books aren't worth much... £5,000 - £10,000 for certain modern books not much? And I think everybody knows about the early 1st editions of Harry Potter...
Then he takes collectible books to a toy shop... Expert? Yeah, right...

Given some old Ladybird books can be worth well over £100 EACH, feel free to consult him.
Most 2nd hand book dealers would offer about 10% of a books value, if you are lucky, unless you know what you have. Even then, you'd be lucky to get 25% if they had a buyer waiting.
If this guy came near me as a so called expert, I would ask him if he wanted to be sued, if he touched my books.

The English hoarders are just as bad as the American ones but at least the British ones are willing to part with things where as the American ones are just like Noooo!! If you throw that away I'm going to die!!!

Some Ladybird books are worth over £100. I don't know how he blagged being employed as an 'expert.' A few people could have grounds to sue for his advice.

A lot of hoarders have a higher than average IQ. They tend to hoard after a trauma in their lives. One American hoarders show went to the house of a successful American Lawyer.
A successful young woman comedian in Australia admitted she was a hoarder, got help, then did a law degree and changed her career to work as a state employed barrister working for defendants not able to afford legal help.
They are often damaged human beings, having survived traumas, but are far from 'mad.' Often very kind, gentle human beings, who see themselves as valueless. Care far more, for others.
A good part of them in the American show are clearly incompetent. The ones that go to the bathroom in buckets and bags and dint throw it away. Unimaginable filth. It goes way beyond hoarding. Where the filth and rodents eat through the house. It is absolutely insane. They need to be placed in a home bc over 90% of the time they go back to their filthy ways. Idk about the British version so much but the American version I mean some have to wear hazmat suits, it’s completely ridiculous.
Most of these old hoarders need to go into a home. They cannot take care of themselves
Homes are hugely expensive and most refuse pets. It is actually far cheaper for society, to keep these people in their home, and have volunteers or social work cleaners popping in.
Or, if she can afford to set up a small independent flat, from part of her house, she can offer it to a single mother with a child, or an Asian girl student, who could do three mornings housework, a week, in return for a free flat and electricity.

Hoarding is actually far more common than average people think. Many hoarders have high IQs . I remember one American woman hoarder was a lawyer. Went to work, nobody knew.
Everybody knows at least one hoarder, unless you are antisocial and don't mix with people.

It seems they have actual collections tho. Unlike the American show where the use a bucket and bottles and diapers to relieve themselves and then save them. And have rodent infestations and filth you can not imagine. They aren’t nearly disgusting and actually have things worth money
