      Yup, maybe the bleach is worse than a reasonable amount of germs. Let's hope they do not develop cancer or another illness for such a huge load of toxins they are immersed every day.

      I was thinking the same thing with the child's toys, my fiancé's mom would do the same thing and just throw his toys out when he was young, when he got older she'd throw out his books, clothes, school supplies, important paperwork just because she thought he wasn't using them. Gave him a weird sense of personal space and self doubt in a lot of different aspects of his life that he's getting help for now but not allowing people autonomy over their items and self is really destructive.

      Interestingly I’ve noticed in a couple of the episodes of this and some other shows that the “hoarders” or “messy people” have parents who are relentless clean. I also had a mum who cleans RELENTLESSLY and I struggle with throwing things away etc and cleaning. 1) because she would always do it for me so I don’t know how to and 2) because I see it as some form of rebellion? Or perhaps it brings me comfort to keep the mess and clutter. Note: I am no way as bad as any of these people but watching this show actually helps me in remembering how to do it all and what happens if I don’t stay on top of it lol

      She 100% is going to make her daughter a hoarder because her daughter will have an unhealthy attachment to belongings when she is older because of this. I know my daughter has way too many teddies but I encourage and ask her to consider donating so that when she does, she gets positive words and feels she is actually in control so hopefully, she will see when she is older, you don't need to have 1000s of possessions.

It's worse if they keep all the toys. She says she keeps them in the garage to see if she misses them before donating so tbh I don't think that's bad. I think we can learn something here. There’s a happy middle ground. I don’t want to inhale 2.5l of bleach a day nor do I want more bacteria in the kitchen than in the toilet. OCD is a mental condition. If the UK wasn’t so crap at dealing with mental health problems perhaps these people wouldn’t have to treat themselves with cleaning.

      It's of course alright to have some keep sakes and cherish memories of the good times. However I doubt it's good for Tim's mental health to keep his house as a "shrine" for a person who's no longer in his life. So I can understand that it must have been a difficult process to start, Tim needed to throw some things away. If nothing else as a way to start to move on with his life and make the house into HIS home.

What she will have instead is a lack of ability to own anything, because there's no point because things just keep disappearing. From personal experience, that's an awful fucking thing to do to a child.

    • @freespirit343
      @freespirit343 3 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      It is. I have people very close to me whose parents used to do that, and now they're crippled by the idea of buying anything that's not immediately utilitarian because they have a deep-seated belief that the object will just disappear, because their parents threw everything they ever loved away. Children do not have the concept of object permanence (look it up); that takes years to develop, and key to the whole process is having reliable, familiar, and constant surroundings, most helpfully, with an object(s) that have emotional grounding; for instance, a favoured teddy bear. Teddies especially have an important role to play, because they are comfort objects. Children anthropomorphize them, "befriend" them, and often keep them well into adulthood. I don't know a single adult friend who hasn't kept their childhood comfort objects, because it has such strong emotional relevance. Not allowing a child to develop that "because it was dirty" is literally disgusting behaviour, not to mention the peak of selfishness. If you're not prepared to be at least a little bit selfless, you have no business becoming a parent.

      I think it is rather a psychological issue most likely initiated by his divorce. He is a cleaner, he knows how it goes, but when one is depressed, one just comes home and goes to bed (either to sleep or day dreaming). And after a while one has piles and piles of things and it is too much and then it does indeed get overwhelming and one doesn't know where to start.

    Not to discourage anyone trying to do this, but as a professional home cleaner for 7 years, both normal weekly costumers and deep cleaning for moving house, I can absolutely guarantee that two people couldn’t possibly get this done in 4 work days :P Clutter removal plus bathroom and kitchen with grime that bad, no chance :P Just fixing the wall tiles in such a bathroom is at least 4-6 hours if you want it like new, which is what we see in the after images. I have worked in bathrooms with just ”normal” grime that took me almost a full day to get done. And then all the vacuuming, dusting all the trim :P Realistically for two people you’re probably looking at 100+ work hours for a project like this.

    The reddish mildew in the bathrooms is a mould that only grows on decaying human bodies. It’s called corpse mould. The skin we naturally shed/scrub off collects in the moist environment of the bathroom and the mould takes hold and begins to grow.

      ikr. sometimes bleach may be needed if its extremely dirty, but more eco products that will break down soon in nature are better, even just vinegar is fine. if i want to do "deep" cleanse i use plant based sponge and more eco dish soap. seems to work fine. i still need that clean smell but luckily they usually have a mild lemony scent or such.

It’s good that no one got severe bacterial infections or bad reactions to mold, on the other hand those germophobe guys could develop severe allergies and bad lungs due to smelling so strong chemicals daily. • @MrStv1163
      @MrStv1163 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, she was direct and blunt and...she was also right. The key is staying on top of it and doing a little bit each day and not letting it get to the point where it's so overwhelming. Leslie hasn't cleaned her place in 19 years. Think about that. Not sure how you can come up with a rationalization for that. The lady had feces on her floor while her young grandchildren are crawing around. At some point it needs to stop being about the self-pity party and more about the greater good and the risk she's subjecting people to - people she claims she loves. Sometimes we have a tendency to make excuses for everyone about everything, and sometimes they need to hear the hard, cold truth.

    Watching this episode after deep cleaning my bathroom last night (thanks to being motivated from another episode haha) and I feel so much more relaxed.

    How to make your child a hoarder, lesson one, take their belongings without permission. My daughter has 100+ teddies, I know that is too many, I do. I want to donate a tonne of them but I don't. Every few weeks, I do a clothes donation bag (2 kids, one is a pre teen so we go through clothes all the time), she gives up clothes so easily, she gives up old toys she is too old for, she gives up DVDs, but she will not give up the teddies, YET. I know she will in the future and even if she hasn't seen the teddy in a year, it will still be there so I know I will get her to do it healthily in the future. Taking them without the child having a choice is just plain mean.
    That poor husband is 99% done and it probably will end in divorce if this continues and that child will beg to judge to live with Daddy if Mummy is so absolutely anal about cleaning.

      They feed off each other. The mum makes her daughter sick, no doubt about it.

    Oh my goodness, as a germophobe, watching that woman lick her finger, then use it to pick bits off the floor, then lick her finger again REALLY set me off! SO GROSS!

      I guess I saw she "used" a new finger every time. :D Just so you can chill a little bit down. :)

    In Australia we'd be evicted letting the house get in that state. Inspection every 4mths, it must be clean, tidy, lawns and gardens done.
    How do they get away with this filth?
    Oww Leslie stop!
    Grow up! She's too much, acts like a child and obviously made Tuesday this way. I love Hayley, she's sweet.

    Actually, most people with oc cleaning are very judgmental and mean. Hoarders are usually more humble, from my point of view (after watching 10 episodes in two days lol)

    I find it very weird when the messy people say " oh, it bothers me it got to this stage" , well, there is a solution - clean it , it's in your power to change the way your house looks . They often behave like yes, there is a mess, but I don't know what to do about it ...its perplexing to me

    I have mild OCD, although I seem to be a little worse since I’ve gotten older, but the one lady who wants her grandkids over, her house is disgusting. I will never understand how people could live like that, let alone laugh about it.

    Those teddies are horrific - being 'from Harrods' doesn't change that. And on the stairs?! 🤦🏾
    32:36 Nice of Daniel Craig to let them swab his van tho! 😂
