Glad they are including hydrangeas. I had a tête-à-tête with the manager of my local HD last year over whether a hydrangea is a shrub or perennial. I won.

Interesting. In my area, all shrubs, trees, and roses were on sale. I got the lavender hibiscus from PW on sale. When do these usually start? Early last week, I went on Monday/Tuesday. They had so many PW. By Thursday, they were almost gone. I was waiting to get paid this week and was going to go back and get some. Head to get some before there was nothing left.

I just went to three HDs. I got 2 Hibiscus Lavender and Tahiti, Spilled wine weigela, and Sweetgum Slender Silhouette tree that I've wanted for so long. There were a ton of macrophylla hydrangea (endless summer, bloomstruck etc) but those aren't reliable in my zone 5b-6a. I would have bought a candy corn spirea if they had any. I have one and love it. I would also love a double play blue kazoo but I've never seen one at stores.

I wish the Endless Summer hydrangea were on sale around my area - I'm trying to build a hydrangea "alley" and getting them on clearance would be lovely. But alas, now of the garden centers around my area have these kind of sale

I just stocked up at H. D. Bought several different hydrangeas, a double pink knockout rose, 3 budlea pugster. Sadly at my store today they didn’t water on this windy day and many plants died. Had to dig around but came home with quite a few beautiful shrubs. Going to try another store to see what I can find.

You would never see this nice of plants here in SC. Anything that goes on sale is dried up and mostly dead 😢

I have 2 of the Valley Rose Pieris in full sun all day 😅and they are thriving and so glossy. I’ve yet to see blooms as I bought them after the fact. I was intrigued as they were “evergreen”; have them flanking my front porch garden bed.

It's funny, I have the pugster butterfly bush and for 4 years it grew only 2ft. But this year it took off like a bandit and it is over 4ft tall now. Go figure. And it's right in front border. It's a giant. I'll have to cut it way back so it can stay small.

Good to know. I am in zone 5 A Denver colorado. Vinilla Strawberry hydreangeas and tuff stuff hydreansea from proven winners all survived those minus 9 degrees last winter.
Commenting form Tokyo, Japan. I'm shocked at the price of the Baby-blue blue spruce. It is sold for well over $1000 here for that size. $20 is more than a bargain.

The trouble is that the workers are ignorant of plants! I've notice this for years when I ask questions. "Now, is perennial the one where they last all year?" "I don't know. Read the bag." "I work in lumber and am just subbing". I even wrote to HD about this problem (our HD is in an upscale area) and they agreed it was a common problem.
HD is good if you're not real adventursome and I understand why variety is limited. I always pick up a few perennials in these sales.
My drift roses are over three feet tall. My knockout roses get huge too. I am in NJ, Zone 7

Lowes always has clearance supplies in the garden center and you can snap up some good deals.
Glad you called, that was a great move. Yes, Lowes does have great clearance. Our home depots don't do clearance like Lowes, just these sales occasionally. The Home Depot sales and markdowns do vary a lot by store, and location. Thanks for watching, and I hope you can find some great sale plants soon!

@HookedandRooted oh, I meant in general! I was looking for Incrediballs. The label says Hydrangea macrophylla, which is not Incrediball for sure. I would consider something else, but I can't buy anything without reading about it first!

Does the 50% off end at some point or continue until they are gone? Do they go more than 50% off later in the season?
It usually lasts a week or two. Usually most things are gone by that point. Then late fall what's left typically gets marked down too.
Home Depot Canada is terrible, prices are way to high for not so interesting plants. They have nothing but same old same olds like black eyed susans and lots of planters. I just stopped going. I rather pay same price at a Garden Nursery and get a unique plant that nobody else in your neighbourhood has. I was upset to see several Japanese beetles on my daisies and roses today. Luckily they have finished their first flush and so no buds or blooms for them to eat yet. I have my bucket of soapy water ready! Watch out they are here!

I’ve killed seven knock out roses 😖😖😖 A brand new has just gotten decimated by Japanese beetles. I think I’m down to a single stem.
Hello, Roses prefer a well draining soil (leans dry), in full sun. They don't like too much moisture. Could that have been the case? I had a sunny yellow knockout rose that the Japanese beetles loved, but they don't bother my double pink ones much. Best thing to do is go out early morning with a cup of soapy water, and look for the beetles under leaves to drop into the cup. The infestation usually only lasts a couple of weeks. The shrub will push out new foliage until you get your first hard frost. Hope this helps.

@@levans3447 for whatever reason they seem really attracted to yellow. My yellow roses also had a very open center, so they could easily get the pollen, perhaps it was that also. Either way, I noticed it so much more on the yellow.

@@HookedandRooted I heard the zone but not your town or city. Very informative video. I'm in zone 5b. I do know the big box stores in this area will actually sell plants that are NOT hardy here. We can get minus 22 degree winters. I will have to get to Home Depot pronto.

Its just me but I am so over hydrangeas, yes they’re pretty but I think EVERYONE has them and talks about them nonstop. I do have a few but their not on the top of my list . I know EVERYONE loves them but……. 🌺💚🙃
