    Thank you for not having loud and annoying intro music (that typically only appeals to the person making the video). Thank you for not saying, "Like I said..." a million times throughout the video. Thank you for a very clean, concise, no-nonsense video.

    This video is inspirational for me. In the driveway, here is a 1984 Prospector Royal SE150 with 318. Looks just like yours, only the a/c compressor is boldly up front of the carburetor.

    I am really enjoying your content and learning a lot about these older Dodges. I have an 87 D150 that was parked about 10 years ago that I am working on putting back on the road. I was happy to learn that it's a roller engine so I don't have to worry about whether the previous owner used oil with enough ZDDP in it. I'll probably use Rotella anyway. I'm going to be converting it to a 4 barrel after I flush the fuel system and was very happy to find this video about doing just that.

    If you had factory air you wouldn't be able to use that type intake. Something I have been doing to all my small block builds is to use a factory magnum/ A518 or A500 TV cable (kickdown) cable for the trans. You can do away with all that factory kickdown linkage that is usually worn out. Things you'll need: The cable (of course), a 1/4" ball fitting for the TV arm on the trans, an adapter for the Holley to accept a Chevy Turbo 350 or 700R-4 cable, an adapter to accept the Turbo 350 or 700R-4 carb end anchor. The 518 or 500 cable end will clip onto the Chevy adapter on the Holley and the anchor part of the cable fits perfectly into the Turbo 350 cable anchor. The factory Dodge cable has a detent adjustment built in. On the transmission end the cable will bolt onto one of the small ears that are on the 727 & 904 transmissions. That will be obvious once you remove the cable at the salvage. On the trans end it is a bolt on except for the 1/4" ball fitting. The most expensive item is the Turbo 350 anchor adapter, usually less than $20. Cables come on any Dodge truck, van W/ A500 or A518 trans, 92 & newer. Easily obtainable at most salvage yards on the cheap. So far I have installed them on a 75 Duster, 65 Plymouth Satellite, and my 88 Dodge B 350 camper van. All work very well. Hardest part is fastening the 350 anchor end to your existing carb linkage. You'll figure it out easily enough if you decide to try one. That 4 bbl will wake up the little 318.

    I just ordered this Speedmaster intake, I pray that this one fits. My truck is an 83 with a 318. Casting numbers verify the heads are 77-86 318. My firsrt intake didn't fit, the bolt holes were at the wrong angle, found out it's like a early to mid sixties intake (pre 67). Next I ordered a cheapo intake from Ebay...no go. The mounting holes were off just a little bit...but a little bit is still a little bit too much. Hoepfully this Speedmaster lines up CORRECTLY with the mounting holes in the head. Sheesh. These small block Mopars are KILLING ME. I never had these issuses with ny small Fords and small Chevy's., or even my BB Fords for that matter. This is just craziness. ugh.

      '67-91 ('92 for 360's) are all LA and take the common LA intake regardless if it's a 273, 318, 340 or 360. Magnums have their own bolt pattern, but the same from '92-03.

    • @GreatWhiteRodeo
      @GreatWhiteRodeo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@318willrun I noticed in one of your other videos, with the Speedmaster heads, you had trouble with the intake bolts going in a little bit and then stopping. That's exactly what was happening with that Ebay intake. Only I could'nt even get the front ones in. The original intake I was going tou se was apparently pre 1967 as the bolt hole angle was off about 8 degrees or so. I'm hoping the speedmaster is a better fit. They're just stop 318 heads. The casting numbers are 77-86.

    • @318willrun
      @318willrun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GreatWhiteRodeo yes, sometimes the angles can be thrown off a tad from aftermarket head gaskets, or anything of the such. IF push comes to shove, you can use a round file or even a drill to get some relief where the bolt is hitting on the intake

    Recently discovered your channel and a fellow Mopar man. I am glad to see that I am not the only one whose best efforts with a drain pan still result in a mess. "Well, I'll BE." That made me chuckle.
    Why do you use end gaskets on a cast iron intake but go with the bead of silicone on the aluminum? I see most everyone uses a bead of silicone these days; in the past I always used the provided gaskets with aluminum but they always seeped a bit, suspect I'll use silicone going forward as everyone seems to prefer it. Does it ever fully harden tho? And even if it does seems like it would become tacky again under high heat?? I just discovered my intake gaskets are leaking vacuum. Engine been running great for long while. But I looked at the plugs and showed things were lean. Surprising with how well it ran. With steady idle vacuum of 21 in.. well for the hell of it I did a compression test. All cylinders last I checked were at 140 or a psi or two off. This time most were around 125. And cylinder 8 was only at 106. So I figure that the slight to moderate lean condition for at least 3 k miles wore the cylinders. Cylinder 8 may ven be in the process of burning a valve... going to do a leak down in that one to make sure where the compression is escaping. Likely going to replace the intake gaskets and keep driving it. Basically have to. It's my only vehicle right now. Do these intakes warp often? The gaskets have been replaced. Had it apart few years back for cam and lifters. I believe the gaskets I put in were all metal. Like the original.

    I have a 1981 318 with the 2bbl, and I'm looking to swap it out for a 4bbl with the new intake manifold. The local shop in town said they have been looking for one thru edelbrock but they cant find one that fits the heads on a 318. They all fit the 340 and 360. • @318willrun
      @318willrun  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All the LA 318's and 360's intakes that are carbureted will exchange. What I would do first in a budget build is assure your valves are sealing properly. I'd do a compression check on it. That's free! Once verified that you have good heads, then I'd always add exhaust with a 4bbl. Those 5th Ave's have a stuffed up exhaust. Then, for performance and reliability, I'd install a new timing chain. As for a cam, I'll just say keep it small. Remember, you will probably have a roller cam in there. I would suggest getting the factory roller regrind for best performance and cost savings. Oregan Cam grinders is a excellent place, and there are others.

    Holy Moses....that center small port is a coolant passage....correct? (sarcasm)
    Anyhow, why would coolant that passes through that be coming out of the egr bump hole on the port floor of #4 and #5 cylinders?
    The Felpro gaskets I used totally covered up that center port.
    I thought that center port was the EGR port? (more sarcasm)
    Better yet, why is coolant pouring into my EGR ports?
    Nevermind....I found the issue.
    The 5/16" water jacket hole on the head gasket surface was drilled all the way through the EGR port!
    Bought those 302 casting, bigger valve heads from Indy Cylinder Head....maybe they didn't do it, but they didn't catch it either!
    Water was pouring out the open header collectors like a sewer pipe! Freaked me out man!
