    What made me stop playing was the sheer number of times where they game would seemingly want me to do stealth, but the bots seemed like they could spot me a million miles away. So I'd end up in the early game fighting like 5 guys with the God awful combat system.

      I pretty much give up on stealth right after getting Dr Faraday's location from the constabulary building. After that there is just a lot of running away from things.

    Not to mention the map generation can be really wonky. For example, in part one, when I was visiting faraday, the garden district she was in was in a giant C shape, and half of the stuff I had to collect was on the top of the C and the other half was in the bottom part of the C, and the length of the middle part of the C was about 600 meters, making it extremely tedious to run from place to place, since there is only one hatch ( I think ) in that area.

    It's been a long time since I played but a few tips about stealth would be
    1: distraction items make people more alert while they are investigating so you need to draw them far away or otherwise they will just notice you faster.
    2: the stealth suit is totally broken and will make you almost invisible while crouching.
    3: hiding spots are totally broken, you can't be discovered while in a hiding spot and you can always use them as long as you break line of sight. If someplace is to well guarded you can just sprint straight through everyone and look for a convenient hiding spot where you can wait for everyone to forget, then start from there.
    4: there is a really obscure mechanic that I don't think the game ever explains properly, but it is really fun and useful (I think it is tied to a early stealth skill). Basically it makes it so that greeting people will make it impossible for them to become suspicious of you for a short time, this is long enough for you to sabotage a panel right in front of them and if you greet someone from behind while in a restricted area then they won't become suspicious of you even if you are in a restricted area allowing you to walk right past them and as long as you break line of sight before they would become suspicious again they will just forget that you exist.
    This mechanic is so useful but it has three limitations, one is that you have a very short amount of time to defuse someone with a greeting that hadls already seen you acting suspicious, and depending on the person and how mamy ways you are suspicious the reaction time to becoming hostile may be much faster.
    The second limitation is that if a doctor is currently or has already sniffed you out then talking to them will only make them hostile, but you should have plenty of time to talk to them first.
    The third and most important limitation is that this effect only works on one person at a time and trying to juggle more then one person will cause the first to become suspicious again, although you can repeatedly renew the effect on one person though if you don't let them finish talking first it may not work.

    Jokes on you I finished the entire game being stealthy and using sunshine pills to avoid joy after effect and looted everything to be prepared! I even finished all the DLC as well.
    The only main problem i have is the frame drops, bugs, and plot holes in 2 characters. (Aka Sally & Authur)
    Spoiler: Authur meets Sally in her apartment but in Sally act it seems you meet Authur in the outside place. The only character with zero plot holes is Ollie. The DLC in other hand despite being very linear they are very fun and well made. That's
    The reason i liked We happy few is because of the survival aspect + the story & Side story. Even though the combat isn't that great and the stealth is kinda ok but buggy at times.
    Also a lot people think N@zi Germany won in We happy few world but it's actually the Kaiser Germans during WW1 that won not the WW2 Germans.

    • @EvenBadWolvesGaming
      @EvenBadWolvesGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Nice, the Joy side effects didn't bother me so I couldn't be bothered with Sunshine. I like the plot holes, it gives the feeling of the characters recounting the events of the game years later and misremembering things, which feels authentic.
      The difference in history is really interesting, with the Second German Empire taking the place of the National Socialists and the resistance of the Americans from initially getting involved.

    As part of the 6.7% of Playstation player that completed the game, Genuine i probably didn't really notice it's dull gameplay souly on the story and characters but i definitely struggled with the gameplay when i was playing as Ollie, i also didn't 100% the game either so that probably also played a part in my enjoyment, but as one of my favorite games, i sadly feel like i probably shouldn't replay it for a long long time.

  • @Vanni008
    @Vanni008 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I have 67 hours on this game, I love it. The main issue that I've found with the game is that the survival aspects of the story mode just bog it down. The story is great and I want to see it but it's annoying when I have to run around an empty field collecting petals or break into 3000 houses for a chance to get a single item. The original game was going to be more survival-oriented, but they decided to expand on the story more. While this made a much better story experience, the survival aspects didn't get much more fleshed out resulting in them feeling tacked on to a mainly story-driven game. This also had the side effect of making the dedicated survival mode uninteresting, because by removing the story aspects you just get "run around and collect stuff" the game. (Although the new content and locations in the mode are cool, it needed much more.)

    • @EvenBadWolvesGaming
      @EvenBadWolvesGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I didn't really play the survival mode and I hated having to search for randomly spawning items in the main game, especially bobby pins.

  • @SmarZ20
    @SmarZ20 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Well that's too bad, because I'm part of the %1.56 percent of xbox players who have finished the game😎
    Edit: I'm going to elaborate on this.
    The game took me *ages* to finish. Main reasons were because I either got stuck on a quest, or because the Wellies were pissing me off. The wellies are so annoying, before you realise you're wearing the torn suit, they've all ganged up on you and beat you to death.
    I think my favourite act was Arthur, but only because it was easier than constantly running back into town to feed the baby, or throwing up over and over. Ollie's act was the most annoying because of his intolerance to Joy, but Uncle Jack's breakdown was captivating to watch. I also understood more about the lore in Act III, whereas the first two acts left me really confused.
    "The Night Watch" in Arcade mode is really worth playing though, it gets my adrenaline pumping. It was difficult at first, but now I like it more than the story mode. I've survived to night 15!
    Maybe another reason I didn't understand the lore was because I didn't read many of the notes. They're so long, if you put it all in a book, it would be as thick as a dictionary. 💀 (I know thats rich coming from me)
    Also, maybe a reason why not many xbox players finished it is because of the random (and sometimes awfully timed) loading screens that stop you in your tracks. I watched Markiplier play We Happy Few and the loading screen was just a blink, I bet he doesn't even know it was a loading screen. It loads for so long on an xbox one s, it's ridiculous.
    Nonetheless, I like the game, but I appreciate more now that I've finished it.

    • @EvenBadWolvesGaming
      @EvenBadWolvesGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Night Watch is great and I love that they incorporated the difference with the blackberry Joy into it.
      And I absolutely agree that Arthur’s play through was the best. I wish the developers didn’t feel the need to handicap Sally and Ollie, or if they really wanted to do that then at least give them something to make up for it like letting Ollie have the last functioning gun in Wellington Wells from his time in the army.

    As someone who has played We Happy Few on Xbox, it is my favourite game, and has been for two years. The gameplay is wonderful, and I think the glitches and bugs are quite funny and add to the gameplay. The story is absolutely fantastic, and players can clearly see the literary and cinematic influences, as well as the influence Bioshock/Fallout had, too. I am currently on my 6th playthrough, and have gained over 3/4 of the achievements, and will not stop until I reach 100%. The DLC's are fantastic too, I really believe Compulsion really did well with this game, if others 'hate' or 'dislike' WHF, its no reflection on the game, its evident they don't have the patience for it.

    It’s genuinely sad that this game doesn’t get enough love, the story is absolutely stunning, the main problem of the game is the map, it’s far to big for what it is, you get a quest, run for 10 minutes, talk to some guy, run for 10 minutes. The reason the DLC is amazing is because it keeps the story telling but the game stays linear

    The paper tanks are a neat little spin on a real tactic used in WWII: The UK had armies of actors, along with Cardboard and Blow-up Planes and Tanks to trick enemy scouts. The ploy had to end, when a very confused German scout saw what he believed to be a flying Tank.

    Finally doing a full run now, and I almost feel like Ollie's story is my favourite - which is pretty sad, because I keep on getting achievements showing that less than 7% of players even got there. And it's hard to blame them. I did Arthur's quest when this first released, but it was so broken - so many quests un-finishable - that I just couldn't take any more. Playing it on PC in 2024 is a completely different experience, but there's few of us who would make the time to go back.
    TL;DR - great vid, totally agree.

    12:41 I had the same issue with the bobby pins. Thankfully, I remembered that Bobbies almost always carry them - so I spent a few nights in town just quietly stealthing them from the bushes. It got pretty comical by the end - a pile of 10 unconscious Bobbies, with my next two targets curiously examining the pile of corpses in front of them. Eh, it worked!

    I absolutely love WHF, despite never having finished act 1 (yet). It's not because of how grindy it gets over time, I like grinding out good games, but rather because the emotional content of the story starts weighing on me too much. I know there are issue with the story and how the game is built around it, but that never stopped me from enjoying the aspects of the game that are actually great. It's a thin line and I guess I chose to focus on what I enjoyed, rather than what was ruining it.

    hated combat at the beggining and stopped playing at the part where you go in the military fort as arthur as i couldn't make it stealth and kept getting killed
    Then i became better at combat, eventually got the best weapons that were DESTROYING people allowing me to 1V5 and just went with it
    Hated sally part so i stopped again when her act started, met the same difficulties with parental totem and afterwards Ollie's diabetes (which eventually was fixed when i learned of the power of pies), but I much more enjoyed Ollie and the great voice acting / weapon abilities than Sally's multiple but mostly anecdotical chemistry powers
    Ollie really redeemed the game for me at the end after the fantastic Arthur story
    DLCs were fun as well, especially we all fall down as i got increasingly invested in the story and characters
    If anything perks were making the game incredibly easy, as with arthur and ollie i just did every secondary quests (with some that were really fun and interesting compared to the main questline) and became a powerhouse way before the end of the game, stealth became much more easy and being able to take down bobbies or do shit like running / jumping / Going out at night without being attacked made the game much more bearable, although a bit too cheated
    What really kept me going back to try the game again to finish it was the unique story and ambiance that i loved to bits, otherwise the bugs and other issues would definitely have killed all my hype

    Recently i finished this game and stumbled across your video, the thing that took my attention was when you talked about how difficult was to acquire the bobby pins on sally act and i saw the same sentiment on the comments. Stumbled on the same roadblock until i tried playing differently. Let me explain, if compulsion games took the decision on this topic to reduce bobby pins drops to make a change on play style vs arc 1. This gets you a feeling of "punishment" for trying to play the same way as Arthur. The easy way to get bobby pins with Sally is to make a knockout syringe and take down bobbies near your house or a Hatch during the night, yes you need to farm Histoplasma Mushrooms and Blooming Nonsuch but is certainty easier that exploring all the garden district and get get 4 pins in return. The problem lies in when sally gets her emergency kit to knock Spud there are no more knockout syringes to use on bobbies or wellies to learn how to use them and get the desire to make more, to abide to her play style so i can see why many players got frustrated in the gameplay and tone shift on the second act. More time to polish the game would had yield a better experience along removing the repetitiveness of fetch quests, like instead of getting the records with on the first mission actually making a plan to make certain number of syringes to take down with stealth all the Uncle Jack fans would have showed the players how different is sally to Arthur while progressing the game. Is a shame a little things like this would had a big impact on how people perceived the game on launch and now. At least more people slowly are giving the game a chance only it takes a little or mental effort to get through it but if you decide to do it you will get a experience that no other game has to offer.

    I was super hyped when I first heard about this game. Being a huge Bioshock fan, I loved the aesthetic and the premise sounded really interesting. I bought a copy for Xbox One on release day and I beat Act 1 with no real issues, just a few bugs and crashes here and there which were annoying but I could ignore. Act 2 is where I had to give up. I really hate the baby mechanic for Sally where the longer you go without taking care of Gwen, the more your inventory fills up with those totems and slows you down, which is especially painful when Sally has hardly any inventory space to begin with. I was able to get the tinned milk, but when it was time to feed her, my water filter expired and I needed a new one, except I didn't have a medal tube to craft one. So I headed over to the garden district and searched frantically for a medal rod. I probably spent close to an hour and the totems were weighing me down so much that I could hardly walk. I eventually gave up and never touched that game again.
    Until the DLCs came out. The first one I didn't care for too much but I enjoyed Lightbearer (even though the game would almost always crash during the Foggy Jack fight) and I especially loved We All Fall Down. I played and beat those 2 when they released, then didn't touch the game again after that. Until this week. Something made me think about it again and I finally played it again after 3 years. I started a new campaign starting with Act 2 since I wanted to give it another go. This time I set the difficulty on easy and searched for a medal tube right off the bat, being lucky enough to find 2. I was finally able to get through Act 2 without the totems ever being a problem.
    Then I went ahead and beat Act 3, which was way too short in my opinion. Honestly I loved playing as Ollie, not because he was the strongest and could carry the most weight, but I enjoyed not having to worry about blending in and taking any Joy since it wouldn't matter with him. And I just loved the whole story of Act 3, especially at the end where you infiltrate the Executive Committee HQ. Although I do have to say I'm a bit disappointed there was no big fight or confrontation with them. I imagined they would be all grim and scary with a bunch of bodyguards but no, they were just a bunch of Wellies drugged out on Joy and not at all a threat. I was also a bit disappointed we never got to see Jack in game, but I can understand the team not wanting to make a model for him. That twist at the end Act 3 was so good too, it really took me by surprise. A big thing I loved about the overall story was how he learn the characters we play as aren't just the typical good protagonists that we're used to playing as. Arthur and Ollie in particular did some really horrible things that you would not expect initially. The story, characters, environments, soundtrack, all of it was amazing and ignoring all the annoying bugs and game mechanics, this game is one of my favorites and absolutely worth trying out.

      Yeah the executive committee was an interesting choice. I was expecting that there would be a confrontation and battle with people at least as competent as General Byng and Victoria but I also loved finding out that they were just as useless and in denial as everyone else.

      I think I'm currently in that situation right now.... I am in a state of fatigued quitting on Act 2 (I put in soooo many hours with Arthur not realizing he wasn't the only main character.) haven't touched the game in at least a month might even send it back to gamefly at this point. I'd rather just watch all the cut scenes, movie style, and play again later or if it ever becomes a free game of the month in the future.

      @@tofferooni4972 My grandfather was one of the few lucky souls to survive the Britain Blitzkrieg of 1940. This game, We Happy Few, manages to accurately capture the haggard and despondent mindset of the English people during the age of World War 2. The childhood flashbacks were what really shook my grandfather; because a lot of people back then had began to thought the 3rd Reich was too powerful and considered appeasement. Starvation, economic crashes, and lastly, German military presence had driven them to the edge of collapse. As history tells that didn't happen; however the 'what-if' scenario had haunted him and seeing it, albeit through a video game, almost broke him.

    I was truly enthralled by the world building of the game, but the bugs early in the release and the tedious nature of the quests quickly found me putting it down for other titles. Having seen this video and your summary of the story, I might actually give it another go. Even knowing the ending of the stories, I really did enjoy the atmosphere and gameplay, so I think it would still be worth my time, especially knowing that there is a satisfying conclusion to work towards.

    I got about an hour in before I stopped. It felt a bit like a cheaper, more rushed and less engrossing version of Bioshock. The cartoonish-ness mixed with the dystopian elements just weren't working for me. There also just wasn't enough of a story there to draw me in, in the beginning. I felt disconnected from the game with no compelling reason to keep on playing.

    • @EvenBadWolvesGaming
      @EvenBadWolvesGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheaper, more rushed and less engrossing version of Bioshock is a fair assessment and in many ways that is what it was - a small Indie developer pushing out a game as fast as they could after releasing the early access. It was the houses in the garden district that kept me playing the first time, particularly the one with the couple that hung themselves after remembering what happened with the children and the diary they left behind.

    Really late to the video but still wanted to share my opinions and thoughts while i played we happy few, the main game i loves the concept and design of,the actual execution was... well the world is open and huge and randomly generated essentially, but the story its telling is linear, i could never make it past Arthur's story, there was just so much empty space from place to place even while fast traveling, so much running.
    And there weren't consequences for not eating or drinking besides a debuff, which made it feel well kind of pointless.
    But each DLC fixed that problem, as they have a fixed map each time which makes it much more enjoyable to play!
    I genuinely love we happy few, i love its story, i love how there's three storys which connect.

    I've played the game through a few times, and never did I have trouble finding bobby pins. You are in the habit of double-tapping E on every bin and postbox and heap of rubble, right? That is, search and take all. Fortunately you can offload crafting supplies to a pneumatic storage system, and craft with them even when they're not on your person. They just appear when you craft with them.
    I got a few Totems Of Parental Neglect my first time as Sally but it was only a problem for a short time. You get enough exp from early quests to buy "Oh, you!" as her and Arthur pretty soon, it's the first thing you should concentrate on. Because yes, the one pain is that there's too many empty streets and vast fields to cross, and they walk slowly. So you're constantly popping pills to run a bit faster.
    Apart from that it's a great game and I'm appalled people haven't finished it!

    when i replayed this game one of the flaws that didnt catch my attention that’s pretty minor is sally’s story which was all about making chemicals and stuff but the crafted recipes were so demanding you rarely ended up making and using any of the interesting stuff. and it really ruined sally’s story for me. there’s a ton more thing’s ive noticed but that’s something ive never seen mentioned before. all the points you made are pretty good.

    It's funny, I came across the game before ever hearing about people's negative experiences with it being super buggy and such, just thought it was a game with a really, really cool story behind it. I'm lucky because somehow experienced little to no bugs. I do remember getting frustrated with certain stealth and combat areas where I'd get stuck on a single part of a quest for hours, but it never ruined the game for me, mainly because I was already so enamoured with the story and design that I didn't really pay attention to it. It took a long while but I eventually finished all three acts, and then when I was left wanting for even more, I bought all the DLCs too. They were really great as well, though I sadly never got around to playing the last one, We All Fall Down, before the game was taken off game pass and I could no longer access it. And then I saw what others were saying and I was kind of shocked, but to be honest, as valid some criticism of the game is, I can help but still love it. The alternate history story and colourful yet sinister design is really and truly captivating and I give so much kudos to the game devs for putting so much work into creating such a fascinating world.

    Just bought this game and all the DLCs for $27. Finished Act 1 and one of the DLCs so far, and I'm really enjoying it. The biggest flaw, for me, is that they just made the areas way too big. Endlessly running these huge areas gets pretty tedious. Other gripes would be dodgy map markers, poor menu organization options, lacklustre combat, map and AI bugs, quests that require returning to the same place as many as five times, and an excessive amount of items with very limited utility. A fun, but flawed game. Worth playing, but wait for it to go on sale first.🙂

I remember sequence breaking the game on accident reeeeally early on because instead of finding a boiler suit to fix the bridge, i just bribed the guard and walked right by. Thought the game would like my innovative thinking but nope. Could never technically finish the quest because i fixed the bridge without a suit. Came back to try and fix it but since the bridge was already fixed, I couldnt do it again. Had to restart my playthrough..... That being said the lore was enough to make me finish all 3 chapters and all 3 DLC (We All Fall Down is fuckin rad)
