"Call and answer" is what you are describing. I love it too. And it can happen between different instruments, between vocals and instruments, between lead vocals and backing vocals, I love it.
You nailed it, JM, about slowing down and being in present moment. Present moment is the only reality we have. The past exists only as memories and the future is fantasy. If one isn’t aware of present moment, one isn’t fully living. Black Water is on my all time favorites list! So obviously am glad you did this and enjoyed it. I swear there’s a long version but couldn’t find it. If anyone does, would appreciate a link. For a very fun Doobie - Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog
When I was 20 years old this song came out. I did not cut my hair for the next 4 years until a job required it. Since I retired my hair hasn't been cut for the past 12 years now and I'm 69, all because of this great legendary song...... Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Almost Cut My Hair Live 1974
BANG.... That one's OUTTA HERE HOME RUN. Another Playlist started with another legendary band. I saw The Doobie Brothers do this tune as a Encore with Pablo Cruise at the L.A Forum 1982. both bands on stage was awesome.
There were quite a few BlueGrass bands back in that era, Doobie Bros were a gentle mainstream that everyone could listen to. Nice job on your reaction!!
As I've said many times in the past, the "Doob's" will put a smile on your face. lol 😆 Here's another live performance "Take Me In You're Arms(Rock Me a Little While) - The Doobie Brothers" be prepared to boogie across the room, so get your dancing shoes ready 😆 👞👠🎸🎷🎶
Pat Simmons on lead vocals wrote this tune.... What's in a name? According to an interview with Pat Simmons, in the band's formative days, a fellow musician named Keith “Dyno” Rosen suggested the band call themselves “The Doobie Brothers” because they were constantly partaking in said herbal indulgences. The band all agreed. I sparked up my pipe for this reaction. Thanks
Growing up in a band family we never looked at them that way, cos' they weren't all about the pipe & smoke. Even to this day at 56 to me they're "The Doobie Brothers" thats it.
It’s called ‘ call and response’ when one instrument answers another. Used in blues a lot between vocals and instruments and just vocals. Probably originates in the Ring games singing from Africa.
Just started watching your reviews a few days now they're great you don't interrupt the songs and your depiction of the songs are short and sweet enjoy the journey you've open up the floodgates to an endless supply of incredible music🎵🎵🎵
I love your reaction and really appreciate you listen to the music without constantly pausing to interject comments. Thanks for this! I love the groove of this song. "Built me a raft and it's ready for floating... ole Mississippi, she's calling my name..." Of course the violin, or one might call it a "fiddle" in this context. ;)
I really like your reaction videos. I would like to see you react to an all vocal group, Home Free. They did a Doobie Brothers song “Listen to the Music” and it sounds like music with instruments. One of their best songs to introduce you to what they can do with their voices is “Man of Constant Sorrow”. You will be amazed at their harmonies and the instruments their voices can mimic!
I want to say I like the format and layout of your videos. I watch a lot a reactors, some are really stupid and others are really cool like you. The colored title banner, text bold comment before the song title, brief intro comments, NO PAUSES, your face says most of what you're thinking as you watch followed by the way you edit the ending with your impressions of the song with your final comments closing music. It all works well for me. Nothing annoying or reasons not to return.... and the BEST DAMN MUSIC anyone is reacting to. I see your channel being very successful with the same structure. Keep Smiling.

1970's Southern fried rock 'n' roll. It was a genre all its own, some really great music came out of the South in the mid-70's, classic stuff.
Thanks, JM - for listening to my very favorite Doobies song!
Saw them open for the Stones in New Orleans 1977. Great show!

Awesome. Nobody could fake a smile as genuine as yours. In another lifetime, I think you could have been a Doobie Brother.

This was a cruisin' song in the 70's, brings back so many memories for me. Love the Doobies, excellent choice.
Thank you for the trip down memory lane today! Beautiful song
The term for the back and forth is "Call and Response"... (might have come originally from gospel maybe?)

Nice choice, another classic.

Great reaction! Love your channel and watching your discovery of the great music we grew up with! Thank you!!
My favorite Doobie bros song feels like I'm from there i feel like I'm a part of the song ! I love the feeling!
What a great song! I especially love the chorus or should I say chorus's as there are at least two and the harmonizing is really well done!!

such a chill tune! ♥
They're always a good listen especially during summer time.
South City Midnight Lady is really a laid back song

God this song brings me back to being a kid and this song blasting during long summer days
