Mike was lead singer of the Doobies for years. He went solo after that. He’s one of the most soulful singers- check him out with Patti LaBelle on” On My Own”. ❤ What A Fool Believes, This is It with Kenny Loggins, Takin It to the Streets- all timeless MM classics! Mike is from Ferguson , MO! He’s one of our national treasures. Also- Mike and James Ingram on “ Yah Mo B There”! ❤❤❤❤
And, the other lead singer from Doobie brothers had a few bangers as well, Listen to the Music, Long Train Running, and Black Water to name a few. I co-sign everything @TheDivayenta said and agree with @quarterfriedwithdirtyrice8108. I love these reaction Britt, keep going and investigate on the ones you really liked.
Michael was in much demand after he left the Doobies and the fact that he repeatedly sang for Steely Dan is amazing - they were reputedly very demanding on the musicians that worked for them and only retained the very best (and accordingly produced the most amazing music, still popular and much admired today).
@richardlovell4713 if you weren't pretty much a virtuoso on your instrument, Steely Dan didn't have much time for you after they stopped being a real bad.
That last smile and nod was for Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler. They are both legends and getting to jam with them on one of his songs must have felt awesome!
MM wrote a lot of hits in the 70s and 80s for himself and for and with other artists like Toto, Patti Labelle, Kenny Loggins, and as a member of the Doobie Brothers, a truly remarkable talent.
I remember watching this when it came out in 1987. It’s from the Cinemax Session: Chet Atkins. Chet is a legendary guitar player who not only influenced Elvis’ early guitarist, Scotty Moore, but also the Beatles. Chet also produced several Elvis songs for RCA.
Michael McDonald has sung with so many artists and bands in both lead and background vocals. He write songs. He’s the quintessential all around musician. He’s one of the most recognizable voices of our time.
I love seeing ppl smile when they hear a good song! This song it definitely a good one. He is not using any particular style while singing but he has a baritone voice. Maybe that what you are asking? And that dance you did? Love it!
I've been listening to MM since I was a kid in the 70's and he was the lead singer for The Doobie Brothers. I like to describe his voice as smooth, smoky whiskey laced with sweet honey.😍 I love to play his greatest hits on the Bluetooth in my car and relax when I'm driving on long road trips.
He does an entire album, maybe 2, of Motown stuff….awesome sauce!! …and if ya really wanna see Michael, he’s on tour w/ The Doobie Brothers this summer (I’ll be there Aug. 3!)…get yer tix now! Ha
Trust me, your auntie was playing the Doobie Bros. at those barbeques. Right along with Bobbie Caldwell. lol Definitely check out his duet with Patti LaBelle - On My Own. Gorgeous.
Michael and I were born three months apart in the same year. He was born in St. Louis, MO and I went to basic in Fort Leonard Wood, MO and my first leave I went into St. Louis but by then he was in L.A. We are both older now, but the music never dies. I used to sing his stuff back then. Did a lot of Jim Morrison of the group "The Doors." I can no longer hit those high notes. The older guys and women who still turn it out are so blessed. God Bless Britt. This is your boy from Tennessee. Peace!
Another performance I keep coming back to is Michael McDonald ft. Billy Preston | What's Going On. If you haven't had a chance to hear that check it out, one of my favorite performances
Britt, I am glad to see you appreciate music from my era. Michael McDonald the Doobie Brothers were "hot' back then. You might want to check out Minute by Minute, and Real Love by the Dobbie Brothers. Michael has other hits: I Gotta Try, Sweet Freedom, and "On my Own with Patti Labelle. And also check out Kenny Loggins (blue eyed soul). He had a mega hit, "This Is It" with McDonald on background vocals. And also Heart to Heart by Kenny Loggins. You won't be disappointed.
The doobie brothers with Michael McDonald are on tour this again this year so if they are coming near you go to the show you will absolutely love it. i'm going to see them again this summer 3rd year in a row for me.
James Ingram has a similar vibe and featured Michael McDonald on "Ya Mo B There" from his 1983 album "It's Your Night". [edit] produced by Quincy Jones.
Yup. He was with The Doobie Brothers and briefly with Steely Dan. Would like to see you react to "What a Fool Believes" or "On My Own" with Patti LaBelle (I think)
Maybe you could react to the Doobie Bothers -LONG TRAIN RUNNING Michael McDonald has one of the most recognizable voices in history. And it is powered by blue-eyed soul. He has written SO many songs for himself AND others-Motown included. One of my favorite artists. Michael McDonald’s voice is 🔥. I HAVE done the electric slide to this song lol. 😅😊❤
Michael McDonald has recorded at least 2 albums of music with his unique style of Motown songs. You can also catch him on background music for his old friends in Steely Dan before they became a twosome and later on a song called TIME OUT OF MIND. You will love the irresistible groove and clean tight sheer of the delivery. He can also be heard of the Christopher Cross hit RIDE LIKE THE WIND. Currently, Michael and the Doobie Brothers are on a farewell tour. You might catch them now as they are playing better than ever. The Doobies also have some great music you need to hear with their other singers as well. Such a heat, diverse bunch if musicians that will have you singing and dancing long after the concert ends. Enjoy
Here ya go, "Terry Kath" lead guitarist ( Jimi hendrix's favorite" guitar player") of the band Chicago, singing,, TELL ME" Sadly he passed away from an accidental self inflicted gun shot wound,,,,, RIP brother...
Try some of his Doobie Brothers stuff, like "Takin' It To The Streets", "What A Fool Believes", and "Real Love" Also...you'll really enjoy Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love".
His duet with Patti is great.👍🏽 The studio version was sampled by Warren G for the song Regulate. Every time I heard it, I couldn’t help myself and sing this song.
White soul sister: Julia Fordham - song: Towerblock- from the album Porcelain. Your mind will be blown. You owe it to yourself to experience this song.
I have never heard this version before. I like the record version better because I like people realizing the music is where they got the sample for Warren G Regulators. He was the singer for the Doobie Brothers, try What a Fool believes, the saddest upbeat song ever. Minute by minute, On my own with Patti Labelle, Yah no B there with James Ingram Ride like the wind Kenny loggins he sings back up on that one.
This song should probably ring a bell, since "Regulate" by Warren G and Nate Dogg sampled this song. Also, just for fun, I would suggest "What You Won't Do for Love" by Bobby Caldwell and "Left Outside Alone" by Anastacia.
Dude is one of a kind. Your responders have mentioned all the obligatory listening. His resume is impressive. Pardon if I mentioned this before but the collab of Boz, Michael and Fagan with an unbelievably talented ensemble perform as the Dukes of September supergroup. Truly spectacular ensemble of God given talents. Britt, you got a great voice and moves like Mick 😊 Only one team can win today, but hope all your bets are in the money!
🇨🇦 Now I will offer you a Triple ! Three artists that collaborate on a song ! The three are Bryan Adams, Sting, and Rod Stewart and they sing the song "All for Love" ! 🇨🇦
fun reaction. great catalog ... 2nd the suggestion of him & Patti LaBelle. - ON MY OWN - also He and James Ingram doing YA MO B THERE ...the other suggestions below are all great as well.
The king of Yacht Rock. Great voice, and his speaking voice doesn't really indicate his singing voice. I loved the bass/keyboard bit that Warren G sampled in "Regulate", too. I feel like there's a little bit of a Kenny Rogers sound in there, but it's almost a falsetto rasp, something I didn't think existed. Also - WTF that's Emmylou Harris!. Also, WTF was that Chet Atkins?
This song was the song of the year. It was so impactful that Nate Dogg also got rich regulating before you were born. You need only watch the official video to know that I’m right.
Just by the by, if ever your relationship goes south can i throw my hat in to the ring? 🤣 You are awesome! Also Michael McDonald rocks, check out Yah Mo B There!
The female soloist was none other than another music great, Emmylou Harris.
And the Spanish guitar and electric trading licks were Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler!
I thought it looked like Chet but the blurred screen it was hard to tell!@@GunsmithSid
The lady singing on the studio version is Michael's daughter Maureen McDonald.
I think Maureen is his sister.
I think that's David Pack from Ambrosia on backing vocals too.
Mike was lead singer of the Doobies for years. He went solo after that. He’s one of the most soulful singers- check him out with Patti LaBelle on” On My Own”. ❤
What A Fool Believes, This is It with Kenny Loggins, Takin It to the Streets- all timeless MM classics!
Mike is from Ferguson , MO! He’s one of our national treasures.
Also- Mike and James Ingram on “ Yah Mo B There”! ❤❤❤❤
yes - yes -yes to all of the suggestions from @TheDivayenta!
Yes, with Patti!
He also sang on Ride Like The Wind by Christopher Cross.
He has one of the most unmistakable voices in the industry.
I forgot about takin it to the streets. Great suggestion. Love it.
The Doobie Brothers (Michael McDonald on Lead Vocals) "What A Fool Believes" ❤
Another one for you to hear is Bobby Caldwell's What You Won't Do For Love. There have been many blue eyed soul singers melted hearts over the years.
Definitely, listen to Bobby Caldwell "What you won't do for Love". It will blow you away
YES, YES, YES... This song is so great!
DO IT, DO IT, DO IT 😁👍🏼🙌🏼
Yup! This! So, this!
He is singing those soulful riffs while at the same time playing a syncopated piano rhythm....TALENT!
That last smile and nod was for Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler. They are both legends and getting to jam with them on one of his songs must have felt awesome!
His duet with Patti LaBelle On My Own. Gorgeous. Britt!
He's not saying "get away", he still wants her but it's over. He forgets it's over and still has the feelings.
He's been burned and knows she's bad for him and has to control his emotions despite temptation so he doesn't get burned again. Pretty simple..
MM wrote a lot of hits in the 70s and 80s for himself and for and with other artists like Toto, Patti Labelle, Kenny Loggins, and as a member of the Doobie Brothers, a truly remarkable talent.
Michael McDonald and the Doobie Brothers had a bunch of hits that were very cool. Lots of blue eyed soul in the 70s and early 80s.
And a good rock band before McDonald changed their course
In this period, Michael McDonald was everywhere. Singing back up for so many other musicians.
Was that Chet Atkins on acoustic guitar?
Through the "raindrops" I was asking the same thing!
Absolutely.
That was Chet Adkins and Mark Knopfler playing guitar. Both all time greats.

Lead singer for the Doobie Brothers. He’s from St Louis my hometown. ❤
ST LOUIS BLUE EYED SOUL 💙
1 of the Smoothest Voices Ever!!!
Smooth. Like sailing calm seas on your yacht.
I've been listening to MM since I was a kid in the 70's and he was the lead singer for The Doobie Brothers.

I love to play his greatest hits on the Bluetooth in my car and relax when I'm driving on long road trips.
Almost like what!??? This guy is a legend his voice appears in the most iconic songs ever!
What a fool believes is another great one from him
His duet with Patti Labelle, “On My Own”, is the song you’re looking for, I’m guessing.
He does an entire album, maybe 2, of Motown stuff….awesome sauce!! …and if ya really wanna see Michael, he’s on tour w/ The Doobie Brothers this summer (I’ll be there Aug. 3!)…get yer tix now! Ha
Michael McDonald sounds more like a brother than a brother !
Trust me, your auntie was playing the Doobie Bros. at those barbeques. Right along with Bobbie Caldwell. lol Definitely check out his duet with Patti LaBelle - On My Own. Gorgeous.
“What a fool believes” by MM as a member of the Doobie Brothers
Michael and I were born three months apart in the same year. You belong to me is one of his best songs the mix is perfection! It’s on the living on a fault line album
Yup. He was with The Doobie Brothers and briefly with Steely Dan. Would like to see you react to "What a Fool Believes" or "On My Own" with Patti LaBelle (I think)
Loved his music back in the day, smooth as silk

The Solo guitarist was none other than Country Music original Roy Acuff.
MM grew up listeningt to his father play in the clubs in St. Louis which is where he devleoped his soulful style.
What always cracks me up about this song is when people hear it for the first time and think it's Warren G at the beginning
PDC.....Michael duet with Patti LaBelle....On My Own.....amazing!!!
He sang this song on Soul Train.
You need taking it to the streets a live concert in California. It’s totally mag soulful.
All his backing vocals on steely dans Peg.

He's worth reacting to many times
He was surrounded by greatness. That'll boost your confidence any day.
He sung with patti laBelle and he was part of the doobie brothers
His duet with Patti is great.👍🏽 The studio version was sampled by Warren G for the song Regulate. Every time I heard it, I couldn’t help myself and sing this song.

He's making love with the lyrics
White soul sister: Julia Fordham - song: Towerblock- from the album Porcelain.
