Hi and thanks for taking the time to hear me out. I’ll try and address what I can in order 1 agree but subjective for everyone 👌🏿 2 I shoot full manual and like control rings to control my camera without auto iso which is each shooters choice but my preference 3 I would have agreed with you a year ago but Nikon stepped up thier autofocus in version 4 firmware which in my case made the Nikon better as I shoot subjects up close and personal (not at distance) 4 mechanical shutter is 12 fps vs 20 or on r5 ii 30 or higher frame rates on Nikon in jpeg (which I don’t shoot lol) also canon cripples 3rd party lenses which lowers some lenses to about 6fps and even canon ef lenses don’t shoot at full fps mechanical or electronic 5 yes you are right I can’t compare those lenses but I can with the 100mm rf and z 105mm mc and to me there is absolutely no contest as the canon hugely misses focus on where it should be (unless they have done a firmware upgrade that solved it since I owned it and desperately wanted it to be marvellous as the bokeh beautiful 🤩) There’s another reason why I can’t test canon vs Nikon mid range lenses (400f4.5 and 800f6.3 are not top tier) as Canon doesn’t really have that kind of selection which is why I said the eco system. The 100-500mm is an L lens so why shouldn’t I put it against a 400mm s? I have owned the 400mm f2.8 v2 and 3 and he 600mm v2 which is apparently sharper than the 3 but don’t quote me on that lol . The version 3s are the same optical quality as the rf from what I have read up on as they were basically bolted on adapter lenses which is the highest canon possesses so far and I can tell you that I preferred the 800mm pf for weight and sharpness over the 600mm f4l is ii which I trade in for the Nikon lens. Yes it’s all swings and roundabouts in the camera world and we all use what’s best for us at the time and having used both systems extensively for fast birds in flight and extremely fast insects in flight I’d say Nikon have the edge over the R5 mki now but it’s a 5 year old camera. I hope the R5ii can change my mind on that but I would need more lenses and a couple of years more with the Nikons as I’m all in for now.
Thanks for the excellent summary 👏👏👏 If I have to be honest, I'm actually "listening" to the song Should I stay, or should I go. I personally use Nikons, and in the days of DSLRs, focusing on "expensive" Nikons was excellent, both FX and DX. Now Nikon is still catching up - that is, it is better in some things (shutterless, VR, DR), but focusing is still not at Canon's level. For me personally, focusing is very important, much more than all the advantages that Nikon has. Right now, a Nikon Z8 camera with better EV and preferably with focusing from Canon + 1-2 additional buttons would be perfect for me. But, it doesn't work that way 🤣 so I have to decide based on what I need the most, which is fast and accurate AF. PS: keep up the videos. There is probably no one else on TH-cam who "specializes" in insects 😀
@@prokremelskidezolati1426 please keep on being honest and if you disagree I’m all for that as you are totally entitled to your opinion. It helps us all
I had Nikon D750 DSLR and then got Canon R6 II. I found the Nikon display better although it was 10 years older. How do you rate Z8/9 and R5 displays compared to each other
Newer camera body AF slightly bests two+ year old camera. Here's the thing, Sony a9 (original) AF from 6 - 7 years ago stands up very well to anything out there, all it lacks is dedicated eye focus / subject detection. We follow each other on IGthreads, nice insect work 👍👍👍
I’ve got the Sony RX10IV which was an eye opener to the mirrorless world for me because at the time I owned a d500, d750 and d850 and it would beat them in good light for action photography so I know what you’re saying but customer service and lack of an A1 type camera made me wait and then the R5 came out and that was that lol
All camera have their pros and cons but for what I do I get a better FINAL image with those Nikons but that is not to say that I can’t get more content with the canon R5 but all in all I prefer the Nikons
I was tossing up between the om system and the Nikon z when the Z8 having already reached out to shooters I knew on both systems (bird in flight and insect shooters) and as I was trading 600f4ii at Park Cameras (great and knowledgeable people) they just happened to have the 800pf in stock and a Z9 (was going to have to wait for a new Z8) was £400 less than the Z8 lol. It was like all the stars had aligned when I got £1500 pounds more for my own lens than I’d bought it for 6 months before 👌🏿. The rest is history. I’d still like to have a try at the OM system so hopefully I can give you some feedback on that next summer. I will say that I have always preferred the look of full frame even vs apsc crop so really not sure about the 2x crop especially when backgrounds are so messy with insects.
1. the ergonomics on the Nikon is better, that's true 2. you don't have to press the ISO button, just set auto ISO, which Nikon has had since the D3/D300(?) 3. everyone confirms that Canon finds the subject faster, especially at a greater distance 4. Canon has a mechanical shutter, i.e. the rolling shutter is a zero value (almost) 5. Nikon lenses are significantly cheaper, but to say that they are better and to argue that the Nikon Z 400 and Z 800 is better than the RF 100-500 is pure nonsense. 100-500mm should be compared with Nikon 180-600mm and I'm not sure that Nikon will come out better... This is probably where it ends, and now almost EVERYONE who used Canon and Nikon will agree that Nikon has bigger problems not only with the speed and distance of finding the subject, but also with the accuracy of focusing, and that's not small - whether it's portraits or wildlife, the plane of focus is not where it should be - on the eye, but very often it is on the eyelashes, on the cheek, or in the case of animals on the animal's face, or it focuses on the bird's beak, not on the eye, and quite often. So, you're probably a happy person because you have some "different" Nikons :)
The 400 f4.5, 600 f6.3, and 800PF are unmatched by Canon at their price point, quality and weight. Canon either have really cheap lenses or super expensive pro lenses. There's really nothing in the middle to higher end for Canon.
@@Ben_Stewartdefinitely. I had the Canon ef 400mm l do ii which was a really nice lens but the 400mm f4.5 trumps it by a long way for detail, contrast and weight 1..3kg vs 2.1kg lol)
This channel looks like its going to be very interesting. looking forward to more
thanks so much, need to get a recorder for the viewfinder before I do any more tutorials
I have the Z8, Z9 and the Sony A1 and A9iii. I also specialise in insects in flight and have found that the A9iii is the best.

4 mechanical shutter is 12 fps vs 20 or on r5 ii 30 or higher frame rates on Nikon in jpeg (which I don’t shoot lol) also canon cripples 3rd party lenses which lowers some lenses to about 6fps and even canon ef lenses don’t shoot at full fps mechanical or electronic

Ever thought about OM System? They’re lighter, less expensive (with the same performance), and just as tough.
