Brian- Thank you for taking the time and effort putting this video together. I was able to successfully replace our broken hose assembly last weekend using this video. Much appreciated...all the best.
Great video! Really well done. Followed it perfectly for a successful fix. Took 3.5 hours to complete. Thanks so much for doing this. Saved me some serious cash at the dealership.
Brian - Thanks. I should start a channel called the "Mechanical Idiot" rich with humor and curse words......my turnaround was more like 5 hours....due to just not knowing what to do whatsoever. Finally had to abandon one of the hose clips for a traditional hose clamp as it kept popping off. Damn proud of myself for following this video, I'll try to keep it in my lane going forward. Thanks again, really enjoy watching people who are awesome at their craft.
I just did this replacement thanks to your video. Great tutorial and the car is operational again. The problem I'm having is the heater isn't getting warm now. Any ideas on what it could be?
Wow. Its a bigger job than i imagined. I need to repair my 2010 pathfinder with the same problem. Your video is fantastic instructions for this old backyard mechanic to follow. My question, if dishsoap helps install those hoses, doesnt it also help them separate? Would silicone spray do the same thing? Thanks for making a great video 😊
Thanks so much for this video. I did this job yesterday. I wasn't able to remove the tire because of where the vehicle was positioned when the hose assembly busted. It's possible to access the lower hoses by cranking the steering wheel all the way to the left, but I don't recommend it! Thanks again, great video!
this happend to me on my pathfinder 2008 wtih 160k miles. insted of replacing the hole assembly i just broke the rest of the plastic hose connector at 1:57 to reveal the aluminum tube. then i bought a "T" radiator hose connector and use JB welds to make it a permanent install.
@@damesiojohns7176 i just used a 'T' heater hose connector, some heater hose that fit the connector, and hose claps form autozone. i used a heat gun to to soften the plastic from the t-connector so i will mold to the aluminum tube. it was a easy and cheap fix, i think i spend like 7 usd. the only hard part was to get the remaining of the old plastic tube from the aluminum one to make space to fit the T-connector. its been 2 months since i did the fix and its holding well, my concern its that the rest of the plastic from the assembly will eventually break down.
Did something similar, lasted about a year more of the plastic did break away (didn't use JB weld) now thinking of going to a pick a part to get the assembly.
Also if you aren’t replacing the axial Larry pump, should you unhook from the ekectical system ? I appreciate all your help. Trying to do this to save money.
Curious do you always have to replace the pump? The part comes in two pieces now so would you start the same way if leaving the pump? Would it make it easier to replace the hose from the pump to the pipe along the firewall? Recommend actions please. Thank you
this is exactly what happened to my '06 pathfinder and I'm planning to follow your tutorial to do it myself. However I noticed some of the plastic bits and pieces fell back down and inside the hose. I tried to disconnect that hose from the button but it wont budge! My question is if it would cause any problems if I cant get those pieces out?
Mine blew out yesterday in the same place. When I pulled the broken piece out of the end of the hose, it just crumbled in my hand. I believe that hose is the water source for the heater so I just clamped a plug into it for a temporary fix so I could drive short distances without blowing all the coolant.
Seriously thinking about going to a mechanic this time. So tired to having to fix things on this truck. I recently had the passenger wheel off to replace a crankshaft sensor. That's just one of the many things I've done myself so far. This problem just started Sunday and I'm already down to nothing on coolant. Engine temp still reads normal for now, but smoking from coolant splattering all over the inside.
I had the same thing happen to my Nissan with the hose breaking off like you had. Is there any way to just replace that part that broke off without buying the kit?
I just finagled a repair on mine broke in the same spot. I cut just beyond every compression fitting even on the bottom metal pipe & put a Tee connected the top 2 with clamps & bottom used a small peice of hose connecting bottom to metal pipe with 2 more clamps. First initial test had no leaks Tomorrow I will top up coolant & see if I had success
Just flushed the system on my wife's 2009 Pathfinder. Then a week later that same plastic piece broke and puked all the new coolant out.... I hate Nissan. This video guided me on the exact repair. Thank you.
I enjoyed the Vid ! Took out the old crap no problem. The only part I'm having issues with is getting the heater core hoses to align to the firewall heater core. Is there a easier way beside needing small hands ? One side wants to align while the other hose doesn't act like it wants to cooperate. It's like it's kittywampus. I spent almost 3 hours dicking around with it and it's getting me pretty P,O.ed Any Help with a trick to get them in line will help.
Is there anyway to just replace that piece at 1:57 and not the entire assembly? Was replacing my spark plugs and I barley tapped that left side hose and the damn thing broke apart
My left side tube failed but the right side looks intact. Is there a way to only replace the left side and not the right??? Also the link to the part itself is no longer in stock / available.
Hello, nice video. I have a question. I own a 2007 Nissan Frontier crew with 79,000 original miles. Should I by pass the trans cooler lines? or add another trans cooler or replace the factory radiator to a new one. I have not yet had any issues of the mixing of the coolant with the transmission. But to be safe would would you prefer?.. Thanks.
If you're in a cold environment: swap the radiator for an upgraded one. (It also brings Trans temp up to operating temperature). If you live in a warmer climate, I would just bypass the cooler and close the trans fluid
Just completed the repair. Thanks for the video! Now it keeps overheating, slowly. Any suggestions? I removed the bleeder valve and air shot out. Did this a few times. How much coolant should I add?
Sounds like you still have air in the system. With the bleeder open keep adding coolant until only coolant come out no bubbles..if the bottle is over full after you done suck some out.
@@HowtoAutomotive Thank you! A whole additional gallon and were good. I'm just hoping when I cleaned out the tube from the top that none broke off and went into the line. But for now, I'm back up and running! 100% like!

UGH Put my truck in shop for another repair and repair man leaned on this and broke. But had to have been going bad. same hose!!! Since there are no valves in this line. If you can't afford to replace the unit. Isnt it possible to unhook from the heater coil and and cut at connecting solid bar since its plastic seperating them making it 2 lines instead of 1 unit and run a heater hose clamped from heater core line to the connecting bottom line? I looked at plastic weld materials but considering temps can get to 220 in heater cores and seems plastic weld material is rated at 200, this would be the best option to cut that plastic bar and make it 2 pieces to connect a hose. WHY the hell they make these kind of parts out of plastic is rediculous! The only thing you loose is a bleeder point hence leave the radiator cap open till the air is out
