- UPDATE: This is meant for small greenhouses, not a 14x100 Farmers Friend Caterpillar Tunnel or 30x48 high tunnel. Everything died!
Here, we test the Vevor diesel 12V heater in one of our larger greenhouses. This would be great for a market gardener or home gardener with a much smaller greenhouse, most likely around 400 sqft. This heater was made to heat RVs, automobile, or recreation vehicles. We are pushing it to the extreme, trying to heat our produce in the winter.

Vevor should sponsor you. Because of you, I have bought 2 backpack sprayers (thank you, and they work great). Now it looks like a new diesel heater is headed our way...
I will caution you on the heater. It is now going to heat a 100ft long caterpillar tunnel. It worked great to keep the temperature up on the chilly nights but failed to keep the 1400sqft high tunnel above freezing when we hit 25'F
You should walk through the hook up
Watch( poor boy little homestead ) he did a lot of videos on heating with a diesel heater in a greenhouse.
You remind me of Mickie from Inwood Eden Houston Gardening and Permaculture
There are TH-cam videos on heat recovery from the exhaust. Exhaust thru a water bath would recover heat and raise humidity.
Turns out you don't even need to vent it outside in a leaky tunnel
@@farmerkeith major greenhouses buy carbon dioxide generators. The only setback would be carbon monoxide.
30 hrs on a gallon fuel is cheap for a green house.
Curious if your zucchini and beans made it. It's cold over here in Wamego. My zucchini was about the only crop I was sad to see the frost get a week or so ago. It finally had no bug pressure (4th succession) and was really producing.
Tonight is the test, and just found black aphods on the zucchini today.
@farmerkeith I love that experiment stuff like you're doing. I have radishes and lettuce under hoops with greenhouse plastic doing well so far, but I'm on the fence about moving to a tunnel. The cost might be justified if your zucchini works out.
could you potentially use the radiant heat from a compost pile to heat a greenhouse? i suppose i could do some math if i wanted but curious if anyones heard of a thing before i dig dig, ya boi got every hobby and interest so i be stretcheddddd.
nevermind it was a easy search. "For the home gardener, however, heating a greenhouse with compost can be a relatively simple process. The gardener can use existing compost bins to warm specific areas or implement trench composting, which allows the gardener to stagger row plantings while keeping the heat up through the winter."
I've heard of people doing that, but when it gets this cold this quick, this quick I don't think it would work with frost sensitive crops.
