I have changed my spark plugs yesterday by watching this video. Very helpful 👍. But honestly I had situation like I had to tow my car to a mechanic who could put everything back 😂 for me. And those rear 3 plugs pain in the ass to removed and replaced. Took me almost 11 hours to Done that job(my every single bolts were rusted bad and one Alen bolt got stripped out so had to get extractor to get it out and even after extractor took me hours to took it off) but at the end I was able to finished the job but after I finished everything up I realized I didn't put one 12mm bolt and a hose clamp somewhere and I wouldn't try to put em back 😂. My car is running just fine with out any rattling or any issues so wouldn't worries about em. Very hard work not sure if it worth to change spark plugs in V6 engine by self. Any idiot you criticizes you is just jealous. I am a former factory trained mechanic and now mechanical engineer. Keep up the great work.
I wonder why they use plastic when they know it's going to get really brittle from all the engine heat. It's like they purposely do it cause they know it will have to be replaced sooner or later. It's also crazy that you have to basically take half the car apart to get the last 3 spark plugs. That's why older cars are so much easier to work on. You must get so frustrated at times when you see what you have to do to complete a job. After all these electronics got put in cars it also made them harder to work on. Great job man.
OMG, my g.fs 07 avalon limited had trouble starting this a.m after sitting for 2 days. It took 3 presses of the electronic start button. It's been 20 years since I've worked on my own vehicles. Was going to attempt change plugs on my Toyota but after watching this I know I'll f something up. Better just drop it at the repair shop.
Hi Will, Wow that long? if you have the strength, patience, time and the right tools. Then it can be done. But if you don't. Better have someone to do it. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the video but I got stymied by the wiper arms. After 14 years they are married to those shafts ('till death do them part). I even bought a wiper arm puller but it wouldn't fit. No amount of penetrating oil, prying wuth pry bar would budge them. I cut the plastic loose and then removed wipers, motor and all as a unit. This allowed further examination of the tiny blind space at the back of the engine and led me to consider drilling three large holes in the dash. Deciding that I had done enough damage for one day, I ate crow and called my mechanic. BTW, did you know those little holes in front of the plenum are perfectly sized and positioned to swallow a 5mm hex tip? Also a round magnet sent down in a rescue attempt. They will both be riding around in the V of the engine for eternity. I did change the front coils and plugs. One of the boots came off the coil on a front one. I was able to retrieve it but if that happened in the rear- well that would be havoc! Seriously, if you dont have ALL the right tools- swivels, extensions, etc. Dont try this! Many possible calamities await. You could end up pulling the engine to get a broken spark plug out.

You got that right on the FWDs. I have a v6 Tundra I changed the plugs, time consuming compared to my Cororlla, but not to bad really. Well, I volunteered to change them on my moms older Avalon-2003. Yea seeing some videos, I went to a guy from church, with the 6 Denso Plugs I had bought last week. $240 in labor but claims to remove plenum and replace its gasket, which I have to buy if I go to him. I moved to Az & I don’t know anyone here I need to do this to my 06 Avalon I’m sure I can do the front plugs but I’m scared to do the back near the windshield. Being a woman sucks when you need work done on your car. Loved your video
Fantastic video. My biggest issue was the wiring harness. I spent more time unplugging the harness and getting it loose to move components to move around.
I see you use compressed air it blow out the spark plug holes. Great, but you did this after taking the spark plugs out. So now the debris inside the spark plug hole just got blown into the combustion chamber. Pray that nothing hard was blown inside...
I've done this job on a Lexus Rx 350 with the same engine, and I leave out the bolt for the back top of intake manifold so i don't have to take out the wiper cowl the next time!
I remember the early 80s helping my buddy work on his girlfriend’s Chevy Monza with a V8. Now this car was a nightmare just to do a tune up. We had to loosened the motor mounts, raise the engine, just to get access to the rear spark plugs 🤬 Suggested to my buddy to keep a can opener in his tool box 🤣

Yup had to remove my intake manifold and Throttle body just to get to the 3 rear Sparkplugs on my Dodge Stealth r/t (3000gt) its a pain just for spark plugs 😅
I have 2 questions, I am about to change the plugs on my 2008 Avalon. The car is running fine with no issues. In this video, you do not gap the plugs (or even discuss it). The OEM plugs come pre gapped to .44 and I think you just installed them as such. According to the Chilton "pro" online manual for an 08 Avalon (Which I am convinced is IDENTICAL to Toyo technicians online manual) in the specifications section, it says that new plugs should be gapped (to between) 0.039 to 0.043 in. Does it say this in any of your reference material? 1) Does it really matter much if I gap them or not / do you ever do so? Also, I know you can't predict the future but 2) do you think it would be overkill, intelligent, or both, if I went ahead & changed out the rear 3 coil packs (or any other parts) since I will have "easy access" to the area while doing the plugs / how often do you or your customers do so? I ask question #2 because The coils appear to be fine and a local Toyo parts guy said that the coil packs RARELY go bad (but I trust your answer more than his). I greatly appreciate EVERYTHING you do & your fast reply.
Hi Jo, how are you? So the genuine toyota spark plugs i had was pre gapped and i just installed it. You do not need to gap to Chilton specs. Now if you are using a different brand spark plug, you may have to adjust the gap on the spark plug. But that really depends on how the car is running with it. That's good you replaced the rear coil packs. They do go bad. It's just matter of time. Here in Vegas, it's so hot. It's the heat that adds to the wear on parts. When i was employed at Toyota. I have seen many coil packs replaced because of misfire codes. The parts guy can say "RARELY go bad" but is he the only parts guy? He can't monitor all parts. Even on day's off?? LOL Also he is not in the shop. There are times i replaced coil packs and are warranty work. They are not all good. I think you made the right call to replace the coil packs. Good job brother. Have a nice day.

What mileage was this Avalon ? The old plugs look OK to me - were they failing ? Did engine have a stored fault code? Or was this just recommended maintenance?

You don’t necessarily have to remove the cover under the windshield wiper, but you do have to remove the Plenum. I would not leave it. If it is way over the miles for the plugs you can damage things. Find a cheap mechanic.
@@kenyareed3051 - Not true. Where do you live? Like around here the Chinese guys seem pretty cheap but you also need to find people who know what theyre doing.
@@norakat I live in Philadelphia,pa. And the minimal price for a mechanic to do that job is about $600.00. There are Chinese mechanics here in Philly that can hold there own against any car dealership mechanic, but you are going pay for their service. Not only that, these mechanics work on BMW, PORSCHE'S, AUDI'S, and MERCEDES BENZ. They could work on Toyota and Honda's with their eyes closed. I'm not a car mechanic but I'm a tech in a injection molding company and I love these types of work but this one is not a easy work guys. If you don't have all proper tools and you are not a technical type person, trust me this is not for you to do it by yourself. Thank you so much for sharing this video Boss😁.
Did you disconnect the battery terminals
This project is like a Disneyland ride. You stand in line for 2-3 hours and the ride only last under 3 minute 🤣 Thanks Angel for the informative and detailed video. Be doing this work soon on my in law’s 2009 Avalon
Bro Thank you for this video!!! Cracked my customer's windshield in the process because I didnt stop and watch it step by step. But after the window was shattered I made sure I took my time and actually paused the video moment by moment. You are a gift from God. Much Love Angel. You have a new subscriber! Best Video hands down!! Must watch!!
thank you for info.i just bought a 2007 avalon .what a rocket.it blow away my 87 chevy z 28.and rids like a dream.
I know right! I just bought a 2007 Avalon XLS,. Jesus the car is fast! Even when I'm on the highway doing highway speeds and I press on the gas the car pulls like crazy it has so much power. It's a rocket ship
Well. Just did my 06 Avalon. It wasn't that bad!!!! Running good now
Did you put the bolts back near the firewall? It takes Iridium plugs too, did you use them?
To get to the back of the engine is insane amount of work. This is probably the first car I will ask somebody else to do it for me.
I want to thank you for these great tips on removing the window washer assembly and housing. Also the other tips and the step by step r and r. You make a lot of mechanics lose business. Lol. Any idiot you criticizes you is just jealous. I am a former factory trained mechanic and now mechanical engineer. Keep up the great work.
I appreciate your methodical and detailed approach and that you provided torque specs in the description.
God has mercy with these six cylinders engine 😫
I wonder why they use plastic when they know it's going to get really brittle from all the engine heat. It's like they purposely do it cause they know it will have to be replaced sooner or later. It's also crazy that you have to basically take half the car apart to get the last 3 spark plugs. That's why older cars are so much easier to work on. You must get so frustrated at times when you see what you have to do to complete a job. After all these electronics got put in cars it also made them harder to work on. Great job man.
This keeps the dealership busy but blame it on the damn engineers
wait until you see all the plastic in a BMW engine compartment
OMG, my g.fs 07 avalon limited had trouble starting this a.m after sitting for 2 days. It took 3 presses of the electronic start button. Im going to go ahead and change the s.p bc I know its long overdue.... this video will definitely help me very much. Thank you sooo much.... there is alot more involved than on my 13 f150 ecoboost!
watching this video just to replace ignition coil and 3 spark plugs I have to do all this? It look like you doing a engine swapping
Just barely started watching and can agree with you homie getting into detail shoot
Toyota avalon is a V6, they have 6 spark plugs and 6 coils. He also replaced the other 3 behind the engine as you should.
Rewatching old videos. This is how it is for all Toyota V6's mounted this way. Had to do it for the Highlander and Rav4.
I think this how it is for pretty much all transversely mounted V6 engines not just Toyota.
OMG!! I need to do mine. You know exactly what you're doing but still alot of work. ;( Might need to get prepped for this big job with some meditation and aroma therapy! haha Great video thanks.
This is more than a 2 beer job. Lol 😂 if you ever work on a Hyundai or kia it's a lot harder than this.

Very professional, would like to know how much in parts and labor? R u available to work on my Avalon 2002?
It's been 20 years since I've worked on my own vehicles. Was going to attempt change plugs on my Toyota but after watching this I know I'll f something up. Better just drop it at the repair shop.
Hi Will, Wow that long? if you have the strength, patience, time and the right tools. Then it can be done. But if you don't. Better have someone to do it. Thanks for watching
Saved $300 thanks to this Video.Very good detail. Thank you
I did crack my windshield though. doing exactly what I wasn't supposed to do... LOL
So you didn't save 300 bucks?
On Rav4 which is tight engine compartment also I never pulled the wipers off it's not necessary to do the job just might give more room.
I need to replace mine, but after watching this i wld rather just pay someone to do it. Smh.

I was about to help a girlfriend, changed my mind
Or just change the 3 easy front and forget about the 3 rear hard until it stop sparking.

Great video. thank you for the help!!! Do I need to replace the intake manifold gaskets after I take it apart? will the old gasket be sufficient.

Thank you, saved me so much time lnowing tools and what to remove from video.
My toyota avalon 2001 xls has 320,000 miles. Last time i changed all the spark plugs was 200,000 miles. This time i just changed 3 spark plugs in the front engine.
No time to replace the 3 spark plugs in the back of the engine. The 3 old spark plugs that i replaced are in good condition. I love my toyota avalon..
Thats what you call getting your moneys worth outta a car✊🏻
How is the condition of a 200k miles spark plugs? Can it last to 300k ?
Wow! What a cluster just to remove the rear spar plugs 😬 Will eventually have to this job soon on my Mother in Law’s 2009 Avalon
Yeah baby, how'd it turn out? She paid for it huh?
I have been looking for a video like yours, thank you for the video now I should follow your steps
This makes you wanna trade the car in - great video. I will not be changing the rear - the front like making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich - the rear is like a thousand piece puzzle. No thanks, I’ll pay.
Excellent video, thanks for sharing! Why didn't you apply anti-sieze on the rear plugs? Was it because they did not have rust on them?
Love your editing angel..its on point.
Really awesome video. Makes me depressed to think of all the stuff to come off for rear plugs. Do you have a trans flush video and radiator flush video for same car? I have a 2000 Avalon. 90K miles. Any problem changing trans fluid if never done before?
Trans fluid is good for 100k. Should be ok to change.
Awesome video I was about to take my avalon to the garage I followed it step by step referring by a few times I got it done no problem thanks man saved me big bucks
You are awesome Bruce!!
@@FixItAngel The name of the person that took the 3 plugs in the back off without removing the intake manifold was called Ares Moto Garage

I was curious so I typed into TH-cam "2007 avalon spark plug change" and your video came up. I am pretty mechanically inclined but this is a little bit crazy
Man I have to do this and I'm not looking forward to it , got quoted 450 by a shop
Nice Job! All FWD V6's are a challenge.
Yeah. I will make sure to never buy a v6 FWD as even simple things are not so simple on them.
FWD, thanks a lot.
I moved to Az & I don’t know anyone here I need to do this to my 06 Avalon I’m sure I can do the front plugs but I’m scared to do the back near the windshield. Being a woman sucks when you need work done on your car. Loved your video
Might be easier access to remove the interior dash panel and cut thru the engine firewall with a blow torch. Repair the torch holes with some Bondo.
thanx...I followed the video and changed the plugs and ignition coils on my 2007 Avalon
Thank you so much I just replaced mine, you saved me a lot of money & time.
Fantastic video. My biggest issue was the wiring harness. I spent more time unplugging the harness and getting it loose to move components to move around.
Thanx for making this video so detailed. It helped me so much
Did just that procedure.thank you Mr Angel
I see you use compressed air it blow out the spark plug holes. Great, but you did this after taking the spark plugs out. So now the debris inside the spark plug hole just got blown into the combustion chamber. Pray that nothing hard was blown inside...
I've done this job on a Lexus Rx 350 with the same engine, and I leave out the bolt for the back top of intake manifold so i don't have to take out the wiper cowl the next time!
Yes, makes it so much easier.
Yes it's a 2GR-FE variant, transversely positioned. Changing plugs on a V8 longitudinally positioned is a lot easier.
Had to do all this on my father in laws 2007 camry v6 yesterday. It's exactly the same procedure. Same engine in different models
Did your disconnect the terminals?
I always disconnect the battery when I'm doing work like this
I remember the early 80s helping my buddy work on his girlfriend’s Chevy Monza with a V8. Now this car was a nightmare just to do a tune up. We had to loosened the motor mounts, raise the engine, just to get access to the rear spark plugs 🤬 Suggested to my buddy to keep a can opener in his tool box 🤣
Great Vid. Thanks for the info.. I'm a tech by trade and we work on all makes of cars, one came in the shop last week missing on #3, R.R. All 3 rear coils w/ Complete TU. Thanks again.
Insane amount of work for just spark plugs
Thanks for the guidance here. It'll be quite a help when I tackle this job after my alternator is back in (which isn't that bad on these--the water pump looks more difficult). Not looking forward to those back three! Nice vid, Fix It Angel.
Thanks for doing a video on this car!!! I was hoping you did 😎
why did you blow dust and debris into the cylinders? you're crazy.
thx for the video. I wanna do head gasket on a similar engine I wonder if it be easier to yank the whole engine out of the car
Welcome, drop the subframe with the engine. it's much easier to do the head gasket that way.
Thx a lot!
@@FixItAngel I watched a guy on TH-cam change the spark plugs in the back without removing the manifold at all. He changed them by reaching behind the manifold. awesome. Question, when you remove the throttle body or the intake do you need new gaskets?
I work on cars as a hobby and for a little bit of money compare to shop cost. I changed plugs on a 2011 ES350. I can tell you this, it was a pain in the azz.... lol. Now I have to change plugs on my RX350. FML.... Lol..
After looking at this video i think ill just take it to the dealership..
Wait until you see a Hyundai or Kia. This Toyota is much better. The Hyundai and Kia on top of doing this you also need to replace your intake manifold gasket because you need to remove the intake manifold. No fun.
You have to tear down to whole car for changing the spark plugs 😑
Yup had to remove my intake manifold and Throttle body just to get to the 3 rear Sparkplugs on my Dodge Stealth r/t (3000gt) its a pain just for spark plugs 😅
Japanese engineeeing
noname Google that goes with any front wheel drive V6. Try changing the spark plugs for a FWD V8 like on a Cadillac
that is insane.... Toyota makes the Avalon that way ? We are in bad trouble.
Acura TL 2005 and 2008 you have to remove the whole intake plenum with throttle body. I own both I know I have done it. Just a pain.
LOL
Also he is not in the shop. There are times i replaced coil packs and are warranty work. They are not all good.
I think you made the right call to replace the coil packs.
Good job brother. Have a nice day.

Great video! Thanks!
I have Lexus es 330, so how much the average of labor cost? and the mechanic told me he recommend to change intake manifold gasket, but I don't know why.
Great video! I can't get the gray connector apart that is above the 3rd coil at the back row of cylinders. In your video, you separated the connector (unplugged) from its attachment point on the stay. How did you get it off the stay or attachment point? Thanks.
Hi Jim, use a small screw driver, there is a small tab in there, pry and pull up in the same time
What mileage was this Avalon ?
The old plugs look OK to me - were they failing ? Did engine have a stored fault code?
Or was this just recommended maintenance?
I just bought a 2006 Avalon, and I wat to known all about the engine as I can, and I can who I can take it too, to have its spark plugs replaced? down here in Phoenix Arizona
That for the video going to try this with my 06 Avalon for the first time. What are you using for the air to clear the debris?
Yes
He's using an air gun to clear out the debris in the cylinders.
After the plugs are removed, he blows air into the hole. Would this not defeat the purpose of cleaning? Debris would fall into the holes.
After watching this video,I was able to changed the 3 spark plugs in the front of the engine, but the 3 in the back you've got to be kidding me.I will leave it alone until it is no longer sparks.
You don’t necessarily have to remove the cover under the windshield wiper, but you do have to remove the Plenum. I would not leave it. If it is way over the miles for the plugs you can damage things. Find a cheap mechanic.
Me too!!!

J35 Honda V6's might be crappier than Toyota's with those engines but I love Honda for the ease of accessing sparkplugs. Toyota, nonetheless, will be a future buy. Very reliable and I still drive Honda.
