Love the concept of this vehicle but the real proof of this vehicle is is it reliable and will be long lasting. If so it will be a winner even at it’s cost.
My local dealer is already discounting the Grenadier by £9k, maybe the niche' was smaller than anticipated? I followed Ineos and the Grenadier project from day 1, all the union Jack's and Britishness was slowly replaced and the price went up and up before Sir Jim moved to Monaco to avoid tax. No doubt it's well engineered but I'd think it's lost a lot of UK buyers when production was started in France, chassis cab is interesting but I can't see the likes of Scottish power buying when the Toyotas they're presently using will be much cheaper and the Quartermaster has a lower payload than even the old Defender 130hcpu.
A very niche vehicle, and what Autocar failed to mention is that due to the poor payload it will be extremely difficult for businesses to claim the vat back! Thats a massive handicap price wise! You should be able to buy 2 ,or even 3 other pickups for the same price as one quartermaster....and those pickup will carry 250kg more than the inneos😢
Payload does not even matter now since April. Dual cab == no vat back because the government has decided so. Clearly people buying pickups instead of vans was a huge problem that our amazing and not helpless government jumped right onto 🤦♀️
@@theseb1979 the government did a u-turn on the proposal after lobbying from farming groups, the original criterias for claiming vat back still stands... And the quartermaster does not meet the 1000kg payload criteria
Recirculating ball steering is renowned for durability. The Birdsville Track in Australia is renowned for destroying ‘rack and pinion’ steering systems. The relative lack of self-centring at low speeds is typical of actual light trucks in the 2-3 tonne class AND this vehicle is, primarily, a work vehicle that will be purchased for genuine on/off road work. I anticipate 5-15 year ownership by most company buyers, dependent upon amount and severity of use. A key criterion, for long term success of the Grenadier, will be : How long can this vehicle be left unused, without a connected trickle charger, before it needs a jump start🧐?
Jeep & reliability are two different planets here in Oz. I guess reliability of the Grenadier is yet to be established, not too many on the roads or tracks of Western Australia.
It is completely separate. Jim Radcliffe wanted to buy the rights to the old defender and got told no. This is designed by Styer in Austria and made in France.
Another corporate Billionaire do as you likey then …. For his next trick he’ll burn a shed load of fuel going to space when us normal people get forced in to downsized out cars for the 3 miles we do a week ..
Autocar need to understand the difference between written form, audience and general TH-cam engagement! Who is telling them they are doing well?! Using these old school editors/ writers is not getting them views for the TH-cam generation sadly - they have been slow to adapt and deserve this fall in market share😢
This idiot calls it a TRAILMASTER, when it is a TRIALMASTER. My TRIALMASTER has done over 12,000 klm in the Aussie Bush and Desert, extremely capable. That is real testing. Not like some muddy track in Europe.
Which states are you referring to? It’s available in the United States of America. There’s actually a dealer where I live in Houston, TX and several other dealers around the country. The Quartermaster is just coming to market, but the Grenadier can be ordered now.
14k miles into my ownership, no issue with the 'hump' either, steering geometry needs checking, once done no wander. No issues, no squeeks, no rattles, I love mine. I wouldn't be seen dead in a school run 'Urbanised' Defender.
Oh no it looks absolutely horrible not going to watch the whole clip bet its a fortune, it looks ancient won't be looking at one of these oops did see the price whilst typing and yes its too expensive
To whoever in the audio pipeline made the necessary changes, thank you! First video in a while that has sounded good. Great review as always.
Voicover was still a bit poppy, but yeah definitely an improvement.

Will walk over any new 4x4!!!!

I'll be using this as a ASMR for taking power naps.
Good honest review. You pay for the ethos. I am in a strange position where I had direct visibil8ty of the only 1 in the UK at one point.

Why don’t you show us one of the most important thing in double cab pickup, the back seat space.
It's compromised, leg room is less than in the station wagon, but liveable, I felt like you also sit a bit more upright.
The issue with these is that the radiator comes down below the front bumper so it fills with mud or grass seeds.
Nice for the weekly shop, just like the defender.

As a life long Land Rover fan and Gladiator Mojave owner....I am seriously questioning the swap...
Looks marvelous ıts 4x4

The trim level is called Trialmaster, not Trailmaster - named after the Belstaff jacket...
If its not able to carry a ton then its not vat reclaimable I believe. Would the chassis cab carry a ton?
Is there any connection to the Defender, or is it purely unashamedly a styling copycat?
It is completely separate. Jim Radcliffe wanted to buy the rights to the old defender and got told no. This is designed by Styer in Austria and made in France.
Shameless copycat.

nice toy
But why are all forgetting the Land Cruiser 79 Series? Cost less and is definitively more reliable. Just saying.
What’s the msrp on this?
has anyone successfully manual swapped one of these?

Do you just get a random off the streets to present this?
Can take a Euro pallet but not a metric tonne, pity.
Im falling asleep listening to him
Are he and Copley not the most boring reviewers and podcasters ever.
I won’t buy it purely because of the steering, it needs rack and pinion.
INEOS should focus on getting its existing platform bug free rather than creating a new model. And for God's sake put a speedo on front of the driver.

Looks like a gladiator, what a bunch of copycats
If you believe that than the Gladiator is a copycat of the Land Rover 130 pick up

Too expensive.
Not UK made vehicle as was suppose to be.
Give a LHD car because the RHD one has a badly compromised footwell.
And yet it isn’t an issue whatsoever if you’re 5ft10 like I am - 22k mls in a year with my rhd
Hear you though
I have no issues with the "dead pedal" on my RHD Grenadier in 5k klms
Nice work again, not sure about the 835kg payload though, surely 1000kg would be more useful 🤷

Jeep gladiator clone
To summarise, it's an expensive heap of nonsense. Nobody is going to choose this over a Hilux... which incidentally, can actually tow actual stuff.
Not with Toyota's new engines. They seem to have lost their way a little.

it has one big drawback, het has an bmw engine en they do not last better buy an toyota mercedes g
Or in Gulf states
Toyota use that engine
The B58 inline 6 is virtually bulletproof. Toyota uses the motor in the Supra. It’s also been detuned to help extend its lifespan.
