Pro tip...when you're running the wire through the door accordion grommet you need to pull the camera wire through only not the red and black because those hook up at the reverse light which is before that. I ran all of them through hooked everything back up on the door grommet then had to run the wires back through after I watched more of the video and saw where they hooked it up. Also if you want the back up camera to sit flush you need to use a flat head and a hammer to break off all of the support pieces of plastic that the reverse light sat up against otherwise the camera will not sit flush and you won't be able to reuse hardware. You'll know what I mean when you pull the light housing out. You also don't need to cut out the old license plate light I just popped the bulb out and left the housing inside the door cavity.
Nice demonstration of how to install a back up camera in a FJ cruicer. I hope to buy one soon and if it does not have a back up camera I now have the info required to do so. Thx
It's interesting the reverse guidelines look to be right on since I noticed the camera is angled to the right and the license plates are on the right of the door? Great video!
I know this is an old comment but I just pulled up on the bottom of the side panels, using panel removal tools to get enough clearance where they meet the floor. Then I tucked the wire up inside the panel until I could reach it through that little storage door. It's super easy to get the wire behind the panel which is why I think he didn't show it on video
Have you been able to find out how the camera is holding up now after a couple of months? My concern is primarily with any fogging or moisture getting under the glass if one gets rough with the truck often.
My kit came with a long video cable. That cable has a short red wire extending from each end. I see the part where it splices to the reverse (purple) wire behind the stereo. But where does the other end connect?
im having a little trouble getting enough slack in my reverse light wiring to be able to splice into it. when i unplug the light it barely comes out and have no room to work with. what is a safe way of getting the light out more? i dont want to just pull on the wiring and break something
I saw the video but didn't see where did you place the camara I have a 2007 fj The only place that I can see where to place it would be place on the side tag but the view is to the side too I would like to place it on the spairtire but the only camara I found for a fj was for 2008 and up What do you recommend
@ about 1:30 when you're talking about and showing the reverse trigger wire - does anything have to connect to the back of the headunit for the reverse trigger wire? Or is the only connection regarding the reverse trigger wire when you splice into the reverse light toward the end of the video? Thanks!
the camera has a long cable with a yellow video plug and a red wire at the end (the reverse trigger wire, which means when you reverse the camera view will pop up on your radio no matter what screen youre on, in other words it triggers the feed)the yellow hooks to the video- IN on the back of the radio and the red trigger wire to the reverse wire coming out of your radio. in my android radio the reverse wire is ORANGE. the cables he was connecting to the rear bulb are the positive and ground for the camera which power the camera only when you break...theres also a white little loop cable coming out of a black cable closest to the camera , its for the red and green guide lines, if you dont like the guide lines cut the white cable.
At the end of the video you tested the backup camera by inserting and turning the key in the ignition to turn on the vechicle. I noticed that the Kenwood head unit immediately turned on by itself and then you put the car in reverse. Does this mean you always have to leave the radio on or do you have to turn it on after starting the car and then put the car in reverse to see the backup camera view? In cars that come with OEM backup cameras you don’t touch the radio at all after starting the car and the backup camera view comes on automatically without ever touching the radio. Is that because they are OEM cameras and the camera you installed on the Toyota FJ Cruiser is an after market camera that requires turning the head unit first and then reversing the vehicle to get the rear camera view?
From the front you have only one black wire (video wire) to run to the back. But when you got to the back you have two wires (black and red) to run through the door groomet. What is that red wire?? Please explain, thanks!
We’re you ever able to fix the angle on your’s? I just installed this same camera and I have the same issue. May look into 3D printing some sort of angled base to fix the problem.
Parts used linked in the description of the video!

I guess it's kinda off topic but do anyone know of a good site to watch newly released movies online ?

I wish you lived in Little Rock Arkansas.... I hope I can find someone this good!

The part where you show how to get the camera wire from the side door all the way to the back of the car is missing.

Noticed the spare tire was in view. Would it be better to install the camera on the right side of the plate instead of the last?
Longterm test ...... is everything working AOK?
I bought 2 different reverse cameras and not getting no video when I put it on reverse it says no video on the stereo.
Stereo not supporting video or feed is loose / not connected
Im lost in the camera part at the light área, im I supose to cut that light

I just installed mine, but there is no gridlines and I didn't cut the white loop, it's still intact

See 2:48 where the red wire is apart of the backup camera kit. It is the trigger / power wire for the camera.
How did you get that angle for the camera, mine is pointing down too much
