- Overlanding in Chilcotin BC for 3 weeks with Starlink for remote work 🌲🚐
In August 2023, I embarked on a 3-week expedition to the captivating Chilcotin region of British Columbia, a haven for those who embrace the overland lifestyle. My Ram 1500, outfitted for the rugged terrain and equipped with Starlink for reliable remote work, proved indispensable. My journey began at Punzi Lake, a remote spot perfect for those seeking solitude and scenic beauty, where the clear waters and peaceful surroundings made for an ideal mobile office.
As the week progressed, I explored the diverse landscapes around Charlotte Lake and Eagle Lake, each offering unique overlanding challenges and opportunities to connect with nature. Chilko Lake, known for its vast expanse and stunning vistas, became a favorite, providing not only a place to work but also to reflect and create. Here, the blend of overlanding and remote work truly came to life, demonstrating the capabilities of a fully built-out Ram 1500 truck in the wilderness.
The weekends were reserved for deeper exploration; I ventured to less traveled areas like Tatlayoko Lake and Perkins Peak. These high-altitude locations offered breathtaking views and a sense of adventure that is at the heart of overlanding. The serenity of Choelquoit Lake and the rugged terrain of Horn Lake tested my setup and spirit, adding layers to my overland journey that were both challenging and rewarding.
Further into the trip, I explored Sapeye Lake, Bluff Lake, and One Eye Lake, each spot adding to my repertoire of remote work locations and overlanding experiences. The Chilcotin Plateau, with its vast landscapes and untouched beauty, was a constant source of inspiration, driving me to push further and explore more. Anahim Lake and Clearwater Lake were the concluding stops on my circuit, providing not only beautiful sunsets but also a connection to the tranquil yet wild spirit of British Columbia.
This adventure was not just about finding new spots to park and work; it was about integrating the essence of overlanding with the practicalities of remote work. Each location, from Cariboo to Chilcotin, told a story of resilience, beauty, and the bond between man, machine, and nature. This journey tested the limits of what it means to live and work remotely, proving that with the right setup, like a Ram 1500 equipped with Starlink, any corner of the world can become your office.

Good to see a video from you. Have a great season and a blessed year.
Thanks. Have a good one yourself
Hey Viktor, great video, some nice music of yours and I watched it all... I don't know who is crazier, you uploading 3+ hours video, or me watching it for so long... 😁 Men the area is beautiful, drove there 2 years ago and really liked it... Although my trip was right after the pandemic and in mid June, so there were almost no people and only locals where most signs said "stay away"... But, at least I did not have the "Deliverance" experience, like your encounter with those bozos, which certainly was not nice... Stay safe my friend and keep vids/music coming... Cheers, Nash
Hehe both are crazy. Well my videos are not frequent anymore but its going to be summer again of like 2 weeks somewhere (closer drive than that because i just had to replace engine a month ago $$$. So no super long drives this summer) and then 1-2 weeks city and again boonies work remote. I'll be fipming kinda raw but will try to compress filming so i dont have to deal with a lot of footage and edits or videos get skipped and not done like my 2 1 month vacation trips of past 3 years that i never got to and never will now but so much was shot.... Well last years usa vacation trip video i am editing starting next week. Gotta get done with videos so i can get back to music this summer and focus on that. Btw check out Mystic Notions youtube channel of mine. Organized a bit of bush /rave party this february and uploaded to dj sets from that day. About to finish 3rd dj video of the girl. Will upload to mystic notions in couple of weeks after she posts that on her channel first.
Check that out. If you feel like joining next one (likely fall and spring long weekend thing going forward) then ping me somewhere on instagram or facebook so i keep track. I will be posting about it this time on socials unlike previous one so anyone could come
@@Gear_Into_Adventure Awesome, will do... Will stay in touch and looking forward for your next vid...
Ma music!
Nice!
You’re living the dream dude. How’s starlink been for you?
Good. Except evenings its throttling down speed so if need very fast connection to do some overtime work then vpn in sucks but can still browse stuff and watch movies at like 30-50mbits. So work really needs to be day time before 6. On that trip i didnt have inverter installed yet for bad weather days and actually had to not use laptop much for personal use in evenings to conserve energy. Next video is vacation trip to revisit some favorite spots of 8 years ago and for that i installed inverter. Currently sitting at an island in rain, no solar. First work remote 2 weeks this year 2024. Inverter to charge power station from car idle at 800w is game changer since that usa vacation last year
@@Gear_Into_Adventure Do you have the second gen starlink? I recently upgraded from 2nd to 3rd gen and have noticed a difference. Uses a little more power but to be honest, do not notice the difference.
Yes second from last year early. Im fine with that, especially if 3rd gen i hear does consume somewhat more power. Like what is the gain between gen2 and 3m
@@Gear_Into_Adventure I can only speak on my experience but for me, there has been a difference in performance. Especially living in the PNW where there are a lot of tress, and do not have a clear open sky view. Just an option, gen 2 does the job and does come with the mount
installed, which the gen 3 doesn't.
You saying gen3 doesnt care about trees? Magically there is no latency and drop outs to have consisten 100-200mbits for actual vpn work, not netflix
