I KNEW IT. That's why I googled this cuz i been seeing a Peruvian girl & she & her family say lots of racist comments against black, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans & fat people. They make fun of them. I want to end things with her. I don't respect her & her family values. I'm really surprised that her mom that is in her 60's & is the one that taught them this way. I'm American & live in America & I don't even think this way. But they come from a 3rd world country to act like they're better than anyone else. I don't respect that.
So, I'm going to Lima, Peru in the summer and really want to visit where the Afro-Peruvians are primarily located. Can you all help me with where to go.
Well, Chincha is like the no-brainer answer but (like in the case of chinese-peruvians and Lima's China Town) it wouldn't be a surprise that you will find a lot of people but actually few Afro-Peruvians. The easy way you can find them is just walking across Lima's streets.
Black has different shades, Africans were brought as slaves as we all know so the Spanish genes can easily stand out more in at least one or two persons in the family. Who said that Africans can't have colored eyes either? It's all about acknowledging where your ancestors came from and being proud of your culture. You may not understand it or see it that way but you can't change her persona because you say otherwise. She's entitled to claim who she is and wants to be. If anything, your opinion is well respected but still irrelevant.
You are american, right? Yeah, I heard about what you talk about... In Latinamerica is different. Of course, we share the racism problem but afortunately we don't share that "ghetto" mentality. I'm talking about separating people geographically, "black neighbourhood" "chinese neighbourhood", etc. We all mix (The concepts of "biracial" and "interacial" is hilarious to us) Our biggest problem is just to eliminate that stupid mentality that if you are "more european", you are better. You know, because the Europeans were the conquerors and they enslaved the indians and the blacks, etc. That's why here is a big deal when a "light-skinned" person is proud of their non european ancestry, because, sadly, the rule is to hide it.
Jermie Sheonarain They are concepts. For you and your (sadly) divided society is important to stay "pure" to stand against the whites (who also want to stay pure). Both are trying to stay separated. We are not like that, and we don't want that.
+Paula Acosta sorry, i didnt mean to offend... have you heard more of the natives before the colonization? they had a wide rage of skin colours, including very light, to very dark. now im not saying none of them are of african decent, of course, i do not know their direct heritage...
