Welcome to episode two, senate. In this episode, we continue to use intricate web weaving and through the counsel many of you provided, we have our plan. It's not always about accumulating land as quickly as possible. Sometimes you must plant seeds and allow them to grow over them before reaping the benefits. It survived for centuries, but even with its already limited power that it theoretically possessed, the Senate became increasingly irrelevant until its eventual disappearance circa 14th century."

Loving the series! This game feels much more compelling and slower pace than your last series, which I personally enjoy when playing the game.
Just a suggestion though, Kilikia is a much better capital (it has more slots and is better developed). So maybe when the oh so benevolent duke passes on, your son should move the capital there (to signify the new age the duchy will experience).

Our current doctrine of building up our power (mostly)"in the shadows" have certainly paid of, our realm are one of the stronger in the Empire...and with the potential to become even stronger if the next generation continue to build on the foundation we are setting.
As for your heir, he seems to be a bit more focused on expansion via the battlefield rather than the "shadow game"...which is fine, since there is much lands to the east that needs liberating from the infidels(which will also bring much prestige and fame to your family name as protectors of the Empire).
As for the long term goals of our realm and your family I give this advice; first focus should be to secure the old borders in the East(via conquest or cunning) doing this will create a good powerbase and also help in what should be the second focus. That second focus should be to secure the holy sites of our Faith and thus strenghtening our State Church; as a strong Church would be very useful in unifying our lands and people. Finally it would also be a great tool(or as some would say "excuse") for when we decide the time is finally right to take back our lands in the West that are currently occupied by the so called "Pope" and his minions of the "catholic church"(nothing but a heresy used to split our once great Empire in half).
To reclaim the West however may require that the throne in Constantinople(and thus the whole Empire) is under the control of one of your family first...for that to be possible a secure powerbase in the East will be vital.

Selukia although your family seat and a great city of the Byzantine empire it is costal and plains all your land is in the same area it is rich but is by no means the richest city you own
I implore you to take the city of Antioch as your seat of power it’s walls are old roman walls strong enough to weather any siege and its port makes it rich beyond compare in your lands but more than that it is the seat of a patriarch the control of whom would give you much control over the local orthodox adherents in your lands being a great roman city it also is situated with roads and buildings to make it a good local administrative Center
It is my view that in all matters military monetary spiritually and in prestige and honour the great walled city would make a much better seat than Selukia who’s grandness pales in comparison

Why invest in a capital in the mountains with low development when you can increase your prestige if you can reign from a prestigious and prospering city like Antioch?
Cities such as the afforementioned might even have unique buildings which will increase your standing amongst the vassals of our beloved basileus!

My Doux, if I may interject, a course of action would be to claim the Despotates of Anatolia from the vassals of the Emperor and the Kingdom of Syria to form an ''Empire of the East''. This way, you can be secure of your position by limiting the power of the Empoeror and the Caliph...
The region of Kilikia is another name for Cilicia (pronounced see li sha). It's also called Armenia minor because of the many Armenians who migrated there after it was conquered by the Armenian empire in the 70s BC.

In ancient times Cilicia was a kind of Tortuga of the Mediterranean sea, a base for smugglers, kidnappers, and pirates. They even managed to capture Julius Caesar when he was young.
In this series, we can see their revival in the Byzantine Empire.

As a humble agent among your many spies and assassins, I recommend we cast our eyes to the future. The dynasty to the west, the brothers of the Carolingian house fight to inherit the pieces of Charlemagne's empire. Removing their dynasty from the face of history will prevent a large and unified Western Europe posing a threat to your future descendants and to the true Roman Empire as a whole. In that vain I recommend also removing the house of Abbasid, the family of the Caliph and Muhammed himself, as without this house our enemies in the east will be without direction. No jihad may be called in retaliation to the conquest of Jerusalem by your forces, and their realms may collapse into infighting as the seat of Caliph lies empty. As a minor landholder in your holdings, I am not necessarily particularly worldly in the matters of Statecraft and Subterfuge.
However, I do believe that acquiring secret knowledge in regards to your fellow Lords may indeed be beneficial to your goals. As you gain their support, perhaps our Blessed Basilieus will look to you more for counsel. I myself have found that knowing who was laying with the Tanner's Daughter in my hold gave me a certain level of control over the thoughts and actions of the Village councils, and the last push of the Heretics into our Grand Empire was better repulsed by having allies that I had a fair amount of influence over.

Many vassals will not speak of it but even those among loyal to the Great Basileios are grateful to your fortuitous actions at handling the matter of dissident voices asking for more autonomy. You also impressed many with your great acts of intrigue at capturing not only the Emir that held the land you now call your own but abducting the Caliph himself! A tale not unlike the one of David as he fell the mighty Goliath when he was just a boy.
But there is a reason why I mention the holy and righteous boy who slew a giant, for that same boy would also come to be known as the second king of all Israel, some would say even its greatest ruler. You my Doux have liberated Antioch and may have very well taken the first step in Byzantine's history in taking the Holy Land back from the infedels and as many in the clergy would sing praises of your acts why not take further opportunity?
To the south of your lands is the isle of Cyprus, currently split between Byzantine and Abbasid. What I propose to you is further conquest, the Sheik that holds Northern Cyprus now finds himself surrounded and if you claim that half for yourself it would mean Abassid loses its strategic stance to the seas. But this is not just to the Empire's benefit, with control of two duchies you could earn yourself the right to be Exarchos/Despot of Cyprus, a greater title than a mere Doux and better standing in the eyes of our Basileios.
And as you have shown the Count of Nicosia, you can show what happens to those who stand in the way of power. Death, or submission.

My Liege, it would be wise to start setting up an appropriately powerful court to your Heir in these next few years, as he is shaping up to be more of a man of arms than one of mischief, like your noble self, he likely wouldn't have the necessary care and skill to find the best of the best like you have been doing so wonderfully.
"Acquiring" the services of the best champions on the realms, and of people with traits that would strengthen the blood of our people, while converting some of the most useful heretics that are far too close for comfort, either to work for you or otherwise to spread chaos through their lands would be a great way to empower yourself as well as weaken your enemies.
I absolutely love that they added more benefits to being a vassal rather than a roadblock for becoming independant.

My Doux, I am an old man who longs to see his home again. The land of my birth has been taken by heathens and non-Greeks and fallen into ruin and despair. Perhaps when you have more political and martial backing or perhaps the empire itself you could make this old Greek a happy man. I wish to see Alexandria Egypt to be as it was a Greek city of learning and innovation. The Arabians will not let go of this jewel lightly.
You know what I think that instead of taking direct control of the byzantine empire you should leave them be. And sail right for Sicily and invade Italy from the south until you take Rome, your political and marital alliances will probably drop the byzantine empire in your descendants hands anyway. But it would be sick to see the two separate empire's being so close and crushing all in between until they share a border.
Plus if you ever play the holy Roman empire you best start the line of the glorious Jean Furenberg.

My name is Mohammed Yazir, and although I may not be Greek, my allegiance lies with those who ensure the strength and survival of the true Orthodox faith. Professionally I am a military advisor to the Comes of Antioch and a sergeant of the guard, and I am addressing the Senate in regards to the quality of your armies, well more so levies at this point in time. Your local and regional development projects have been grandiose and well suited for providing the means to effectively utilize your holdings, however, Abbasid steel does not concern itself with such matters and will only cow to military might.
Nikephoros had been inspecting the garrison and state of the fortifications in Antioch and after we had discussed with one another we came to the belief that, to put it bluntly, the overall army and garrisons as well as fortifications are lacking. The most decisive course of action I can recommend would also be the most dire, the state of the standing army. By allocating more of the states well obtained funds towards creating standing regiments of men at arms, it will allow for both inward expansion against the illegitimate Douxs of our empire and also dissuade Caliph Al-Mu’tamid from taking any aggressive actions against your realm. I would like to express the gratitude of all your subjects for the development of your lands. As a simple warrior I've never had the experience of a treasurer in economic matters, however the benefits to the realm and of course you are tremendous. Should you choose to continue this path of development and prosperity, know that the small folk are ready to support any such initiatives. The people of your capital are exceptionally interested in such a prospect. Many have suggested that before we care for the rest of your lands we should focus on making Seleukia a proper capital fitting of a Doux of the Byzantine Empire. The clergy is also supportive of such initiatives having been benefited from the construction of the local port as well as the monasteries that dot the mountains and plains near the Holy Church of Corycus. Monks, Priests and Nuns have flocked to see the splendor of the church as well as the new monasteries and leave Seleukia not only spreading the word of God but also preach using your name as an example of a pious leader. Your prestige and piety have been widely spread to all the lands of Anatolia and the Byzantine Empire. As such I would suggest that further development of our capital must be one of our top priorities. However we must not neglect the brave people who defend the lands. Prosperity may have many benefits, however it attracts attention and jealousy. There are a lot of veteran levies who wish to organise a small group of professional fighters in order to ensure the safety of their homes. It is widely known that eastern warriors (our main threats) utilize horses in a great extent, so many have suggested a Spear-men Regiment of 100 to 200 men should be organised. Others however have put forward the idea of our own Cataphract Regiment. While more expensive than the Spear-men, it should be especially effective against our enemies if our future battles are fought in fields. There is also a small portion of veterans who wish to form a Heavy Armored Men at arms regiment emphasizing on Better quality in armor and weapons to gain the advantage over our enemies. The decision is in your hands my Lord as I am certain that your grace and knowledge far exceed us all. I checked if it was up an hour ago and I just saw this in my recommended like 6 minutes after release.
This is by far the most engaging CK playthrough I've ever watched. I watched it when it first came out and I was hooked. I thought it would not have the same effect the second time, yet here I am hooked yet again.

I may request, that you built up more that thy already own. If you expand so much as your genious provides, the walls of your cities will crumble before the enemy even sieges and the treasure chests will be as empty as the armies of your enemy thine slays. So i dearly recommend to not ex but inpand your demense, so that it will be shining so bright the enemy soldiers will not be able to siege it!

I would suggest that my lord continue the conquest of Cyprus by military means.
Your' son and heir should lead this military conquest. This would allow him to gain valuable experience in the ways of war and so that the army could get to know him. This should leave no doubt in him succeeding you. But i pray this will be many years in to the future.
You should keep interfering with Abbasid politics, this way you should be able to keep them divided. While your' family keeps growing more powerfull.
I would suggest redoubeling your' development efforts. For it seems that your' son is more warlike then you my Lord. It might be prudent to make sure that your' son has a strong economy, so that he can wage these future wars.
Also keep making more allies in the Empire my Lord, your' familly will need them.

Keep doing what you are doing and I do suggest when giving lands to a vassal you increase their taxes by quiet a bit. This way you can try getting more titles without losing much. And I do hope you will consider an alliance with the samanids.

I am but a humble historian, i search for old tomes if history and recount them. Yet what i do holds little sway in this letter, rather another matter does. I'm no master of the arts or any man of importance and so my message shall not be either. Rather it is about a name, something as a name can be simple and powerful. I can not control you or your son, but i ask that you name an heir. With these new times the calipbs of the east are being pushed back theough secrecy and intrigue and the foes to the west are beaten back by axe and spear. This time is a turning point, and so i would ask that you name a child anchisis or Aeneas, the great forefathers of rome. Show the world that rome yet lives, show the world that the eagle shall rise as a phoenix, show the World that the light of rome still burns even though its candle is gone, show them that you are the new Romulus and Remus, and the Empire you will forge will be legendary.

You already know many of my previous ideas, but may I suggest another avenue for you're kidnapping?
You seek prime choices for marriage and titles, but many of them are blocked off by them refusing marriages due to being 'Infidels'.
My Metallic Bodyguard tells me his time with his previous 'Big Guy' yielded a potential way to gain new lands and strengthen the faith without having to wage war.
Perhaps you should use you're immense intrigue to capture the Kings of North and East Africa and....'Persuade' them to convert to the Orthodox faith.
And as a side effect of strengthening the faith, you could then marry off you're children and grandchildren to them in order to increase you're families power and perhaps even take territory far from the Eyes of the Basilius!
You could also use this tactic to....'Persuade' them to allow marriages to you're children despite being a 'Infidel', potentially even managing Matrilineal Marriages for you're Daughters and Granddaughters.
I must get back to my lands, I have more plans that need preparing.

It's your legal assistant. Idk if you have Confederate Partition or not (I assume you do), but ducal titles will automatically be created for your sons if you're a duke under that law. So, unless it's not worth the money, you should create ducal titles yourself to become more prestigious. Moreover, your primary heir will have claims on all ducal titles inherited by your sons, so he will be able to get them back.

the county of tarsus has always been the seat of power and the capital of the great duchy of kilikia and so as the now great doux i can see no greater city where you can call your home (and it has a lottt of holdings) and my great doux i with great pain must remind you that the strong great and wealthy dutchy of kilikia still misses one of it's county which has still not been reclaimed and is in the hands of a traitorous neighboring doux who still hasn't seen your greatness and gifted it to you.

One thing I wish this game had is the ability to decide the fighting style and how your military is equipped. Being able to incorporate foreign arms and armour or completely converting conquered land into fighting the same styles as you. That shit would be dope.
with how easy it is for you to get hooks, getting the perk that allows you to demand gold for hooks would make you filthy rich, not sure if it would fit your characters militarism based personality but funny to think about
