I think Fluttershy's sass is really heightened in this episode because she's dealing with her brother. It can be much easier to make jabs at your own family members then it is to with strangers or even your own friends. She's been dealing with him for a large portion of her life and he brought out more of her sarcastic side as an older sister.

Actually, the way Fluttershy behaved in this episode is characteristic of an introvert. Introverts often have a much easier time communicating and interacting with their families than they do with strangers or even close friends. I have a difficult time calling someone out but if it is my family than it is not. However, It is a very different matter in abusive or otherwise dysfunctional families and often that is when introverts entirely lock themselves down because they do not have a safe place where instinctively they know they should. Also, another interesting point I have about this video, especially when it comes to where introverts and narcissists collide, is that fireworks usually do end up as the result one way or another. This is because introverts can very often see right through a narcissists facade. Usually this revelation results in either the introvert refusing to do anything in fear of losing the relationship even if it is incredibly toxic or they will confront the narcissist. If there is one thing that a true narcissist will not tolerate it is confrontation that they themselves did not initiate. So usually the result is the narcissist making life a literal hell for the introvert.... This can still happen with an extrovert but it is usually an introvert that will initiate the conflict oddly enough and usually take it much harder than an extrovert would. Still, to really understand this you have to realize that there is not just one type of narcissism. In fact there are many varying levels of narcissistic personality disorders, each with their own traits and interactions. I will explain only three, though these are the most common. 1:Trained Narcissists. TNs are not always actually narcissists, often they are either mirroring a narcissistic parent to avoid being a target or are simply using the behavior to mask a flaw or fear that they do not want to be revealed to others. Unlike the other two kinds I will mention, trained narcissists can change given the chance and encouragement given that it was more of a facade rather than their true personality. It is still difficult to get past since it often arises as a form of emotional defence mechanism and takes time to resolve. It is often very hard but possible. 2: Overt Narcissists. ONs are the over the top narcissists that is usually what most people see as the primary form. These are the people that will boast about being narcissistic while still subtly manipulating others against each other for the ONs benefit. These are the ones that will make you feel like you are their best friend until you are no longer useful to them. Whereupon they will usually, not just cast you aside, but make sure that you are so broken down and discredited by the community the ON creates around themselves that you are not accepted by any of them any longer. These narcissists usually reach out beyond their family and is often triggered by abuse in the family and is a hardwired emotional response to have control over others. If something happens to reveal the manipulation the ON will usually have a breakdown in response to the loss of their control. 3: Covert Narcissists. This is actually probably the most common, complex, and damaging of all forms of narcissism. CN is usually constricted to a family unit and is very hierarchical in nature. Usually a parent the CN will basically train their family from the very beginning for certain roles. Usually the spouse is either chosen because of or forced into a habit or vice that is culturally unacceptable. This can range from drinking or gambling to even going as far as child molestation. Once the spouse is "caught" in that vice, or even a combination of them, the CN will use that as leverage to get them to do whatever they want. To outsiders the CN will imply that their spouse has gotten over that vice while internally they encourage it. In this relationship the children usually fall into one of two categories, the golden child and the scapegoat. The golden child can do no wrong and is constantly praised and allowed to do whatever they want, most often in the next generation these are the ones who become the next CN. Then there are the scapegoats, they are constantly put down and can never do anything of worth. Their successes are made to be either inadequate or failures and more often or not the failures of the golden child is made out to be the scapegoats fault. Many times this is the reason why they are often the ones that will become an ON, to gain the control that they are not allowed themselves... There is so much more depth to this than most people realize. Really, if you are prepared for a heartbreaker you should look up testimonies from children of narcissists, it is tragic. One of my main projects I am currently working on is a narrated animation on the various kinds of narcissism but it is taking so long because it is hard to explain out loud, especially to an audience that may not have experienced it before. Anyway... This really got away from me so sorry for the ramble... This is why I should not comment on touchy subjects after 10pm... 😖

Discord might in a way be considered a form of overt narcissist, as in his case it is not so much that he has changed his manipulations as he has learned to control his behavior. As I said, I only listed the more common types, there are countless variations that are combinations or alterations of those kinds.

7:37 Technically, other characters have cussed on the show, just in different languages. And funnily enough, Fluttershy was there for each one. There's "Keep Calm and Flutter On": "Mr. Beaverton-Beaverteeth! Such language!" and "It Ain't Easy Being Breezies": "What did he say?" "I'd rather not say." As for Fluttersass, I fear if we saw more of that, it would be less awesome. I suspect Zephyr is the only who brings out this behavior in Fluttershy (besides Discord), because they have that sibling relationship where she feels safe in being blunt. Therefore this context it's more special AND understandable. I think if the show had more Fluttersass, it would be risking another "Putting Your Hoof Down".
Agree with this. Did want to point out (bc flutter regressing gets mentioned a lot by many reviewers) That as someone who struggles with similar issues that even after becoming more self confident and assertive - old habits return. Especially since self esteem is often the source (as fluttershy seems to show). It’s very easy for assertiveness or confidence to falter if your sense of self worth or ability to handle a situation drops. Tldr: fluttershy is not repeatedly regressing. This is normal behavior for low confidence people
there's also that stage where you can be confident, but it is an active thing. confident and self assertive when thinking about it, the old shy when not.

Makes you wonder... What if Discord was in this episode? How would Flutter's parents react to there daughter being friends with a chaos creature? Do you think they would like him? How would Zeffer interact with Discord? Come to think if it... did Fluttershy tell her family about Discord after his reformation or before?
Personally I'm not afraid of failure. Failure itself doesn't scare me. The consequences of failure scare me. If I fail to drive a car right, I could die. If I fail enough jobs, I could find myself unable to get a new one, and potentially mess up someone else's day/situation depending on what the job is. It's not that failure feels bad. It's that failure can lead to life-altering consequences.
After seeing this I find myself wanting to do a collab about the episode with Rainbows parents. Not only is it my least favorite episode (lives were threatened and justice was shunned), but I would love to be the one that gets stuffed into the party cannon and shouts "I'm gonna have a lot more fun with this than you are. Woo! Bring it on!"
"character development that stuck from fluttershy?" i'm new to this series (and not going in order) but in my eyes fluttershy had the most consistent character arc of nearly everyone. it's just also working through something extremely hard to break and is extremely gradual, but it always stuck.
Remember How Fluttershy Helped AJ with beavers? Maybe thats actually her job. Helping other Ponies in dealing with animals... Kinda like how The guy from Dog whisperer doesn't just make the dog better but teaches the Families what they are doing wrong just with Fluttershy it would come from the insight gained by Talking with the animals

Honestly, it could be that but to an extreme. Remember how in Bridle Gossip, the explanation for why the Everfree Forest is dangerous and scary goes as follows, and I quote: AJ: "The Everfree Forest just ain't natural! The plants grow..." FS: "...The animals *care for themselves*..." RD: "...And the clouds move..." Chorus: "...All on their own!" This suggests that in areas outside the Everfree, ponykind has taken full control of nature in every shape and form, from the weather to the flora and fauna. While with weather, it's rather obvious that this extent of control is indeed present, with everything from weather teams to the weather factory, the flora and fauna part isn't touched on as much- but I'm willing to bet that Fluttershy is one of the ones responsible for caring for the wildlife at least in the Ponyville area. Thus, she's pretty much the equivalent of a park ranger... if the weather team and the staff of the weather factory, including Rainbow Dash, is the equivalent of meteorologists.
Her character development has stuck for a while, the show could just stand to show it some more (and a lot of the episodes people say she "reverted" back are just looking at her shyness in a different way). This is definitely one of my favorite episodes as well: strong moral, great humor, great music, and superb character development. I've also never had a problem with characters being introduced "out of nowhere", I can get why it bugs people but honestly considering most of Friendship is Magic's lore is made-up as it goes along its mostly unavoidable.

This episode has made me realize that unless Rainbow's parents were hiding some secret sibling, Rainbow Dash is the only one of the Mane Six that doesn't have a sibling. Also, with this episode and the Perfect Pear episode we have officially met all of the Mane Six's parents. Even if we still don't know the reason why Applejack's are gone.
Judging by the Parental Glideance episode, I'm pretty certain RD is an only child, given that her parents lavished so much attention on her. And yeah, with Perfect Pear, we've now seen all the Mane 6's families... even though the Apple parents' names are the only ones I can remember off the top of my head. I mean, most fanfics have Twilight Velvet (or Velvet Sparkle) and Night Light as Twi's parents, but is that actually established in-show? The Pie's parents are hard to remember, and I don't know if we're given the names of the others. Something I started thinking about recently, are the Belles neglectful parents? The Apple parents are gone, and Twi, RD, Pinkie, and Fluttershy all moved away from their homes to live in Ponyville. However, the Belles live in Ponyville, but we haven't seen them since the season 2 Sisterhooves Social (aside from a couple blink-and-you-miss-it cameos in a few other episodes). Seriously, we only ever see Sweetie Belle living in Rarity's house. In Ponyville Confidential, where she was part of a community scandal, we don't see her parents try to defend her. In Crusaders of the Lost Mark, where she earned her cutie mark, only Rarity is there to say "I'm proud of you." That's almost worse than the Apple parents being dead.

Don't know if anyone posted the answer but Fluttershy's job is taking care of animals which includes Grooming and babysitting in a sense, its been shown in several episodes she takes care of pets and wild animals. Also surprised you didn't mention the ending where Fluttershys parents also think Rainbow Dash is interested in Zephyr. XD
We have never seen anypony giving Fluttershy money. BUT! -> We do see her using that money [S2E19]; with the implication that she either gets very little, or has so many expenses she can not save much of it (since she had enough to buy stuff in Ponyville´s market for just a few meals).

I disagree with the idea that the gem was so much as valuable. Maud pointed out that all kind of gems are common everywhere in Equestria [S7E04]. The fact that they are used casually to buy simple stuff (or even just as a tip for a service) on Manehattan also gives continuity to this idea [S4E08]. -> Deep purple gems may be actually rare, as they probably contain a great ammount of magic like Twilight´s element [S3E11], just like the one Celestia wears in her main regalia (even when sleeping!) [S4E25].

It's not just fear of failure, but fear of rejection. Jia Jiang found that we are the first people among ourselves to reject ourselves and our ideas. We do so so that we cannot get rejected and hurt by anyone else. This self-rejection leads to never having tried idea that have an equal chance of success and failure. Sometimes all we need to turn a 'no' into a 'maybe' or 'yes' is a slightly different question asked from a slightly different perspective. If you haven't already checked it out, I highly recommend reading Jiang's book, _Rejection Proof_ . It is _amazing_ . You can also check out all of Jiang's rejections right here on TH-cam, including the very first one, and the Krispy Kreme Olympic donut one, which is what made him famous.

19:08 She's right. For me personally, I view quitting as failure. It's a failure because I was unable to complete a task, or deliver on a promise. If I do my best to complete the task, even if I fail, I know I at least tried and then can use that experience to do better next time by learning from it.
How many times do I need to point this out? It has been confirmed in the very earliest seasons (zecoras fist appearance) that animals do not take care of themselves in this universe. So yes, the job is taking care of the animals. And before anybody says it, a vet's job is purely a medical need

This is one of my favorite episodes of the show. On top of me feeling the most attachment to Fluttershy due to my own troubles with confidence, speaking my mind, and other similar issues, this episode brings it a step further because that was basically how my brother used to be.

A lot of what I said in my own review of this episode is repeated here, but then of course more cause these guys are great at what they do. I related a lot with this episode because I struggle as well with working on anything on my own, because I fear that they will fail. You cant expect a guy leeching off his parents to finally finish school & move out around the same time. I mean he'd need to find a new place & a job to make that happen & I feel like that together with finishing school is too much to be a believeble change from where the guy started out. He graduated. Have him get a job & keep it is good progress not baby steps. Seriously its not that easy to move out from your parents right after graduation unless you already had a job before that
I find it hard to imagine how you would move while or not having a job. If you move somewhere far then without a car it's much harder to get there and if you don't have a job then you have to quickly and hopefully find a job in the near vicinity at least by bike so moving out is really hard
magnusm4 kinda exactly my point. To move out from your parents you need a job & a new place for yourself. Finding both at the same time is nearly impossible. Especialy right after graduating. However you could start with getting a job while living with your parents to save up for your own place.
I've always kind of just theorized that Fluttershy functions as ponyville's more humane equivalent of animal control/humane society/animal shelter and she probably gets funded from a portion of ponyville's taxes which would help explain how she can afford to house and feed that many animals with such a wide variety of diets and needs
While the prospect of the fear of failure did help me to see Zephyr in a new light, I still stand firm that it doesn't absolve him of his responsibility of sabotaging his chances to prove himself. I get more of how realistically he was meant to be portrayed, but despite atoning for his actions by attempting to sleep in the woods (and failing), a part of me still feels like he was let off the hook a bit too easily.
She might just get paid for being her. I mean, if _you_ had Weaponized Cuteness looking out for the wellbeing of all nearby forest critters (including carnivores like bears), and she had a reality warper on speed dial, wouldn't you pay her too? And fairly well, at that? I mean yes, in 'Putting Her Hoof Down' we see that Fluttershy didn't have much disposable income because she only had so many bits on her or food, but a lot's changed since then -- and all she needs to do to get more money is ask for it, and not only from Discord. Also, she had a (brief) career as a fashion model, which probably paid fairly well. She doesn't seem to have to struggle to make ends meet, and later has the resources to build her nature reserve, and even hire the wrong ponies to do it (I wonder if she got her money back). Then again, given her close relationship with woodland creatures and how gems seem to be buried most of the time, maybe she can get by without a job, depending on how many gems her critter friends bring her. Fluttershy basically doesn't have to lift a hoof to make ends meet, simply because she has loving and caring relationships with others who would in turn, care for her. Maybe I should do a video on this. Anyone wanna collab?
Fish and Wildlife department / animal shelter manager maybe? She does seem to be the sole pony responsible for housing and feeding all the "wild" animals in town, and even before opening her own sanctuary she was in charge of adoptions (Ponytones episode) I also assume she's paid for teaching/conducting the birdsong at festivals, since she was on the list of important ponies way back in season 1. She's also well respected by the scientific(?) community in Equestria for her ability to speak with all creatures (when she went off to the retreat and met the Breezies, as well as being put in charge of the safe passing of the breezies through ponyville) - which she is probably also paid for. Maybe she's more freelance, but she's definitely working some fairly lucrative jobs if you consider those that pay for travel, and that others are during national holidays (overtime pay).
I remember when this episode aired and practically screaming due to how relatable to my brother and I. This episode is still one of my favorites for how close it hit to home. Also for Fluttershy standing up to her folks and saying her opinion and standing her ground with her brother. I am the youngest and often had trouble trying to get my voice heard so it was fantastic to see Fluttershy, a character I relate to very much, to make these talks happen because trying to do this with family is hard.
This episode actually hit me hard because when it came out I was constantly jumbling and trying stuff that I liked but not putting in the effort, as a lazy creative it kinda woke me up. Also doesn't help that he has the same colors and race as my first Oc design, AND has a soft spoken older sister as his only sibling like me. I was freaked out that I was becoming Zephyr Breeze and I still struggle with giving up on things I want to pursue.
For Ellie’s question about the butterflies, the answer is simple. There were butterflies in both Cloudsdale and Ponyville, but Cloudsdale just had 10 to 50 times less than Ponyville.
+Krash #42 the thing is that at the end, you're suppost to want to forgive him and hopes that he redeems himself...but honestly, i feel like they made him TOO unlikable to the point that i feel like he is the worst villain to exist at this point in time!
I love how he says Fluttershy was the first one to swear when it was actually apple bloom who was the first one to swear in the cutie pox. Sacre bleu literally means damn it in French. Now I know damn isn't a swear but considering MLP was a TVY7 show at the time that's impressive that they got away with it
Some people may think that failing when you give it your all is more painful than quitting. But I'd say that at least you tried. That has it's own satisfaction. To not try simply because you fear failure undermines you in the long run.

Its actually interesting how this shows a parent being too coddling yet there are plenty of shows that deal with abuse and how enforceing too much control over the kids is also bad. Its why I think Mlp should have done more family based episodes OUTSIDE the apples. Especially if you are gonna have this kinda episode. Because it makes it sound like discipline is wrong. That discipline =s abuse when they're two completely different things

So usually the result is the narcissist making life a literal hell for the introvert.... This can still happen with an extrovert but it is usually an introvert that will initiate the conflict oddly enough and usually take it much harder than an extrovert would.
Still, to really understand this you have to realize that there is not just one type of narcissism. In fact there are many varying levels of narcissistic personality disorders, each with their own traits and interactions. I will explain only three, though these are the most common.
1:Trained Narcissists. TNs are not always actually narcissists, often they are either mirroring a narcissistic parent to avoid being a target or are simply using the behavior to mask a flaw or fear that they do not want to be revealed to others. Unlike the other two kinds I will mention, trained narcissists can change given the chance and encouragement given that it was more of a facade rather than their true personality. It is still difficult to get past since it often arises as a form of emotional defence mechanism and takes time to resolve. It is often very hard but possible.
2: Overt Narcissists. ONs are the over the top narcissists that is usually what most people see as the primary form. These are the people that will boast about being narcissistic while still subtly manipulating others against each other for the ONs benefit. These are the ones that will make you feel like you are their best friend until you are no longer useful to them. Whereupon they will usually, not just cast you aside, but make sure that you are so broken down and discredited by the community the ON creates around themselves that you are not accepted by any of them any longer. These narcissists usually reach out beyond their family and is often triggered by abuse in the family and is a hardwired emotional response to have control over others. If something happens to reveal the manipulation the ON will usually have a breakdown in response to the loss of their control.
3: Covert Narcissists. This is actually probably the most common, complex, and damaging of all forms of narcissism. CN is usually constricted to a family unit and is very hierarchical in nature. Usually a parent the CN will basically train their family from the very beginning for certain roles. Usually the spouse is either chosen because of or forced into a habit or vice that is culturally unacceptable. This can range from drinking or gambling to even going as far as child molestation. Once the spouse is "caught" in that vice, or even a combination of them, the CN will use that as leverage to get them to do whatever they want. To outsiders the CN will imply that their spouse has gotten over that vice while internally they encourage it. In this relationship the children usually fall into one of two categories, the golden child and the scapegoat. The golden child can do no wrong and is constantly praised and allowed to do whatever they want, most often in the next generation these are the ones who become the next CN. Then there are the scapegoats, they are constantly put down and can never do anything of worth. Their successes are made to be either inadequate or failures and more often or not the failures of the golden child is made out to be the scapegoats fault. Many times this is the reason why they are often the ones that will become an ON, to gain the control that they are not allowed themselves...
There is so much more depth to this than most people realize. Really, if you are prepared for a heartbreaker you should look up testimonies from children of narcissists, it is tragic. One of my main projects I am currently working on is a narrated animation on the various kinds of narcissism but it is taking so long because it is hard to explain out loud, especially to an audience that may not have experienced it before.

That as someone who struggles with similar issues that even after becoming more self confident and assertive - old habits return. Especially since self esteem is often the source (as fluttershy seems to show). It’s very easy for assertiveness or confidence to falter if your sense of self worth or ability to handle a situation drops.
Tldr: fluttershy is not repeatedly regressing. This is normal behavior for low confidence people
There is only one situation needed, and all self confidence could be ''thrown away'' from such a person (Which is kind of sad)
there's also that stage where you can be confident, but it is an active thing. confident and self assertive when thinking about it, the old shy when not.

Makes you wonder... What if Discord was in this episode? How would Flutter's parents react to there daughter being friends with a chaos creature? Do you think they would like him? How would Zeffer interact with Discord? Come to think if it... did Fluttershy tell her family about Discord after his reformation or before?
Personally I'm not afraid of failure. Failure itself doesn't scare me. The consequences of failure scare me. If I fail to drive a car right, I could die. If I fail enough jobs, I could find myself unable to get a new one, and potentially mess up someone else's day/situation depending on what the job is. It's not that failure feels bad. It's that failure can lead to life-altering consequences.
After seeing this I find myself wanting to do a collab about the episode with Rainbows parents. Not only is it my least favorite episode (lives were threatened and justice was shunned), but I would love to be the one that gets stuffed into the party cannon and shouts "I'm gonna have a lot more fun with this than you are. Woo! Bring it on!"

Honestly, it could be that but to an extreme. Remember how in Bridle Gossip, the explanation for why the Everfree Forest is dangerous and scary goes as follows, and I quote:
AJ: "The Everfree Forest just ain't natural! The plants grow..."
FS: "...The animals *care for themselves*..."
RD: "...And the clouds move..."
Chorus: "...All on their own!"
This suggests that in areas outside the Everfree, ponykind has taken full control of nature in every shape and form, from the weather to the flora and fauna. While with weather, it's rather obvious that this extent of control is indeed present, with everything from weather teams to the weather factory, the flora and fauna part isn't touched on as much- but I'm willing to bet that Fluttershy is one of the ones responsible for caring for the wildlife at least in the Ponyville area. Thus, she's pretty much the equivalent of a park ranger... if the weather team and the staff of the weather factory, including Rainbow Dash, is the equivalent of meteorologists.

Her character development has stuck for a while, the show could just stand to show it some more (and a lot of the episodes people say she "reverted" back are just looking at her shyness in a different way). This is definitely one of my favorite episodes as well: strong moral, great humor, great music, and superb character development.
I've also never had a problem with characters being introduced "out of nowhere", I can get why it bugs people but honestly considering most of Friendship is Magic's lore is made-up as it goes along its mostly unavoidable.

Judging by the Parental Glideance episode, I'm pretty certain RD is an only child, given that her parents lavished so much attention on her.
And yeah, with Perfect Pear, we've now seen all the Mane 6's families... even though the Apple parents' names are the only ones I can remember off the top of my head. I mean, most fanfics have Twilight Velvet (or Velvet Sparkle) and Night Light as Twi's parents, but is that actually established in-show? The Pie's parents are hard to remember, and I don't know if we're given the names of the others.
Something I started thinking about recently, are the Belles neglectful parents? The Apple parents are gone, and Twi, RD, Pinkie, and Fluttershy all moved away from their homes to live in Ponyville. However, the Belles live in Ponyville, but we haven't seen them since the season 2 Sisterhooves Social (aside from a couple blink-and-you-miss-it cameos in a few other episodes). Seriously, we only ever see Sweetie Belle living in Rarity's house. In Ponyville Confidential, where she was part of a community scandal, we don't see her parents try to defend her. In Crusaders of the Lost Mark, where she earned her cutie mark, only Rarity is there to say "I'm proud of you." That's almost worse than the Apple parents being dead.

Don't know if anyone posted the answer but Fluttershy's job is taking care of animals which includes Grooming and babysitting in a sense, its been shown in several episodes she takes care of pets and wild animals.
Also surprised you didn't mention the ending where Fluttershys parents also think Rainbow Dash is interested in Zephyr. XD

Difference, we actually got to Like those other characters. This tool meanwhile can get thrown in front of a train on it's way into the mouth of a volcano in the eye of hurricane for all I care.
It's not just fear of failure, but fear of rejection. Jia Jiang found that we are the first people among ourselves to reject ourselves and our ideas. We do so so that we cannot get rejected and hurt by anyone else. This self-rejection leads to never having tried idea that have an equal chance of success and failure. Sometimes all we need to turn a 'no' into a 'maybe' or 'yes' is a slightly different question asked from a slightly different perspective.
If you haven't already checked it out, I highly recommend reading Jiang's book, _Rejection Proof_ . It is _amazing_ . You can also check out all of Jiang's rejections right here on TH-cam, including the very first one, and the Krispy Kreme Olympic donut one, which is what made him famous.

She's right. For me personally, I view quitting as failure. It's a failure because I was unable to complete a task, or deliver on a promise. If I do my best to complete the task, even if I fail, I know I at least tried and then can use that experience to do better next time by learning from it.
How many times do I need to point this out? It has been confirmed in the very earliest seasons (zecoras fist appearance) that animals do not take care of themselves in this universe. So yes, the job is taking care of the animals.

You cant expect a guy leeching off his parents to finally finish school & move out around the same time. I mean he'd need to find a new place & a job to make that happen & I feel like that together with finishing school is too much to be a believeble change from where the guy started out. He graduated. Seriously its not that easy to move out from your parents right after graduation unless you already had a job before that
I find it hard to imagine how you would move while or not having a job.
If you move somewhere far then without a car it's much harder to get there and if you don't have a job then you have to quickly and hopefully find a job in the near vicinity at least by bike so moving out is really hard
magnusm4 kinda exactly my point. To move out from your parents you need a job & a new place for yourself. Finding both at the same time is nearly impossible. Especialy right after graduating. However you could start with getting a job while living with your parents to save up for your own place.

I've always kind of just theorized that Fluttershy functions as ponyville's more humane equivalent of animal control/humane society/animal shelter and she probably gets funded from a portion of ponyville's taxes which would help explain how she can afford to house and feed that many animals with such a wide variety of diets and needs

While the prospect of the fear of failure did help me to see Zephyr in a new light, I still stand firm that it doesn't absolve him of his responsibility of sabotaging his chances to prove himself. I get more of how realistically he was meant to be portrayed, but despite atoning for his actions by attempting to sleep in the woods (and failing), a part of me still feels like he was let off the hook a bit too easily.
My personal head cannon of Fluttershy job is Wilderness caretaker.

I tend to assume Flutter Shy is a Forest ranger, or the Equestria equivalent.
She might just get paid for being her. I mean, if _you_ had Weaponized Cuteness looking out for the wellbeing of all nearby forest critters (including carnivores like bears), and she had a reality warper on speed dial, wouldn't you pay her too? And fairly well, at that? I mean yes, in 'Putting Her Hoof Down' we see that Fluttershy didn't have much disposable income because she only had so many bits on her or food, but a lot's changed since then -- and all she needs to do to get more money is ask for it, and not only from Discord. Also, she had a (brief) career as a fashion model, which probably paid fairly well. She doesn't seem to have to struggle to make ends meet, and later has the resources to build her nature reserve, and even hire the wrong ponies to do it (I wonder if she got her money back). Then again, given her close relationship with woodland creatures and how gems seem to be buried most of the time, maybe she can get by without a job, depending on how many gems her critter friends bring her. Fluttershy basically doesn't have to lift a hoof to make ends meet, simply because she has loving and caring relationships with others who would in turn, care for her.

I always thought her animal shelter runs like a real animal shelter. When Rainbow Dash says she wants a pet, Fluttershy jumps right in there.
Fish and Wildlife department / animal shelter manager maybe?
She does seem to be the sole pony responsible for housing and feeding all the "wild" animals in town, and even before opening her own sanctuary she was in charge of adoptions (Ponytones episode)
I also assume she's paid for teaching/conducting the birdsong at festivals, since she was on the list of important ponies way back in season 1. She's also well respected by the scientific(?) community in Equestria for her ability to speak with all creatures (when she went off to the retreat and met the Breezies, as well as being put in charge of the safe passing of the breezies through ponyville) - which she is probably also paid for.
Maybe she's more freelance, but she's definitely working some fairly lucrative jobs if you consider those that pay for travel, and that others are during national holidays (overtime pay).

I remember when this episode aired and practically screaming due to how relatable to my brother and I. This episode is still one of my favorites for how close it hit to home. Also for Fluttershy standing up to her folks and saying her opinion and standing her ground with her brother. I am the youngest and often had trouble trying to get my voice heard so it was fantastic to see Fluttershy, a character I relate to very much, to make these talks happen because trying to do this with family is hard.

This episode actually hit me hard because when it came out I was constantly jumbling and trying stuff that I liked but not putting in the effort, as a lazy creative it kinda woke me up. Also doesn't help that he has the same colors and race as my first Oc design, AND has a soft spoken older sister as his only sibling like me. I was freaked out that I was becoming Zephyr Breeze and I still struggle with giving up on things I want to pursue.

For Ellie’s question about the butterflies, the answer is simple. There were butterflies in both Cloudsdale and Ponyville, but Cloudsdale just had 10 to 50 times less than Ponyville.
I like Sassy Shy, but that's about it. Zephyr Breeze is just too unlikable.
But he is supposed to be unlikeable in the story, so is that a writing success or fail :D

Some people may think that failing when you give it your all is more painful than quitting. But I'd say that at least you tried. That has it's own satisfaction. To not try simply because you fear failure undermines you in the long run.

Its actually interesting how this shows a parent being too coddling yet there are plenty of shows that deal with abuse and how enforceing too much control over the kids is also bad. Its why I think Mlp should have done more family based episodes OUTSIDE the apples. Especially if you are gonna have this kinda episode. Because it makes it sound like discipline is wrong. That discipline =s abuse when they're two completely different things
