    Chilean here.
Totally great video! I'm impressed! I have studied Koerner's role in Chile's Army history and you dug up some amazing information! You clearly know more about Boonen than what I know!
When I was 16 and in Military School (Officer Academy) we used the Mauser Modelo 1912 modified to fire 7,62 NATO. Please do an episode on that rifle! The Mausers were worn out so we only fired blanks with them. Used for general infantry training and bayonet practice. We paraded with Steyr carbines and did guard duty and range practice with SIGs in 7,62 made under licence by FAMAE. But the Mauser is basically a simbol of our army. The 1912 was still in use in some units in 7,62 up to the 80s.
Love the channel and thanks for the detailed history lesson!

I'm happy to see a video on the 1895! I bought a nice one as my first gun and it has a special place in my heart. All of the research I did on it along with finding accessories like bayonets and slings was fun and got me hooked on mil-surp. Still can't find a proper cleaning rod though.

I have an incredibly early example. "A67" It's an 1895 Mosqueton (super short engineering version). I love it to death, it's a patina rifle (just a touch beat up) but has some firing pin art that somebody did early in the rifles life. The name "ARAYA" was dotted into the stock. Maybe a girlfriend or wife of somebody serving in the army? It's my favorite early rifle.

I bought a Chilean M95 in 1971 for about $25US; it's one of the few rifles I've regretted trading. It shot well, carried and handled easily (for me, but I grew up with M1903s, M1917s and Garands). By the time I bought it, the spitzer round was available as Chilean surplus, I can't recall pricing other than being cheaper than 30-06 surplus in my area [Clovis, New Mexico]. Cheers from Virginia!

As Americans, we are lucky to be able to own unissued, mint condition Chilean 1895 rifles. Chile sold its military stock to the US in the 1950's and 1960's. Many of them are antique status, meaning no firearm license required to buy and/or sell.

So that reminded me of my little scare when I bought my DWM Modello 1895. I didn't date it before buying, because I just wanted an example. The auction house said C&R. So I won the auction and I said cool, paid my tab and figured they'll get ahold of Mr in a day or 2 for shipping details. A week passed and while I was annoyed they hadn't contacted me I'm a patient guy I decided I'd try to call them the next day if I didn't hear anything, that's when I got a package delivered. Huh I wonder what my mum has ordered from Amazon I thought to my self, surely surely they didn't ship....oh its the gun.....so then I panic researched and finally found the faded cartouche that looks like it reads 1898. 😂 letter code agrees that it should be 1898. But I was sweating for a minute they didn't mention anything about antique and I assumed it wasn't cause they did have C&R on there.

I’ve noticed that too. I’ve seen so many absolutely butchered/Bubba’ed Argentine m91’s and that always struck me odd. They also seem to be subjected to the absolute worst Bubba “gunsmithing” I’ve seen, I can’t think of seeing very many that were sporterized in a nice fashion. Most were hacksaw and 12 pack jobs. Yes, I know there were tons brought in and they were cheap but so we’re many other Mausers. The round is good but was never really common. The m91 was also the most “primitive” smokeless powder Mauser action with the small extractor wedged into the bolt and the protruding magazine. Of all the guns available in the old days, it would be pretty far down on a list of truly suitable actions to build a decent sporter with.
If it was just a matter of cost, I’d just buy a carbine and leave it as-is to hunt with or even the long rifle as-is. I’ve hunted with various long rifles, for most whitetail situations it works just fine.

I'm no big deal, discriminating collector. I don't have a Mauser. I keep looking for one of the Spanish/South American 7mm versions. Not so much interested wit European models.

@@jopeteus Pssh, I wish. I know, I never pull the first card but figured it would compliment a rifle from 1895

Those "German sales tactics" that were mentioned were actually not unique to the Germans, they were rather commonplace. The British, French, and Americans used those practices as well......but let's just make Germany look worse....

Yes, most of these channels use sour grape sources that always make the Germans into bad guys.

I'm a huge fan of the Chanel, but that is a misinformation about the rifles that equiped the Brazilian Army. We used the Comblain until 1891, when we adopted the Gewehr 1888 bought from Steyr. By the time of the Federalist Revolution, in 1892, most of the loyalist troops that suported Marshal Floriano Peixoto were equiped with Gewher 1888s, while the Federalists used mostly Comblains and the Navy Kropatscheks 1886. Only in 1894 the Brazilian Army adopted the Mausers, similar to the Spanish Mauser 1893.
