    For those who have started collected more high end watches. Every now and again you see a watch that makes you go .... "hmmm". As in, "hmmm, why am I paying 5k for a watch again?". That Longines is a prime example.

      @Dapdoi ArdonGot a point to an extent, but when it comes to watches people buy them for different reasons. I personally purchase watches because I love the memories you can associate with them. Doesn't matter if it's the 300$ Victorinox I inherited from my wife's father when he passed away or the Rolex Submariner. Each watch has a memory that I can relive every time I look at my wrist. If you are buying a watch to "hold value" or show off, you can do better. Just depends on how you decide to enjoy your watch hobby.

    Long time fan of Watchfinder videos; first time commentator. Great narratives and horoligical history, product quality and features. Really enticing and points hit home with the close up videos. For me, it really hits the point home... and why I now really appreciate the iPhone's camera macro capability. Not as good as Watchfinder video camera, of course, but it does allow me to examine my own watches more closely. Keep up the great work and thank you! I find myself looking for new Watchfinder content while I'm on break from work and daily life. Lastly, theis video series help raise awareness of what watch enthusiasts have known all along: creation of fine watches is art and should be appreciated as such!

    The Problem i have with Tritium watches is that the glow fades after 6-24 years (depending on concentration of Tritium) and all you are left with is a watch with Helium-3. Luminescent paint on the other hand (can!!) have a considerably longer lifespan than that. Considering that laws in regards to radioactive substances change and the move away from Nuclear reactors very much limits the availability of tritium, while i am a fan of the Tritium glow....i wouldnt buy one again. Like the Isotope its a short lived pleasure.

So you will find Ball watches in the most vintage of style on my wrist today. On a final note, I think you could have and perhaps should have included Hamilton on your list as an overall equally good choice.

    I recently purchased a Ball Engineer III Ohio Automatic watch, Black, 40 mm, NM9126C-S14J-BK.
    I have new admiration for Ball. Definitely a class above many renowned watches. Too bad the Holy Trinity does not want to include Ball, however I will give him this category in my humble opinion, because for a watch expert, I would say that Ball is up to Patek Phillipe along with Vacheron Constantin and Breguet. This new acquisition in my humble collection, is a beauty that has many forms and with extreme expressions of beauty and is called Art! Therefore, Ball is my favorite of the Big Four, and based on general impressions and value for money.
    Although the only "detail" is a bit thick for my taste and although the thickness of the box is not perfect in this model, although it has an attractive appearance.
    As the owner of a Patek among other fine watches, I must say that Ball is easily compatible, if not superior, to the Patek in some aspects ...
    My Holy Trinity has Patek at the top, but not necessarily Vacheron Constantin or Breguet as a second level ... I think Ball fits better.
    They attract me like honey flies. Not only are Ball's watches beautiful, they represent the height of watchmaking development. Congratulations !!!
    For example, people make me smile when they say the Rolex watch is better. "Yes, it can look better ...", but technically speaking there is a big gap between a Ball watch and a Rolex.
    We must also remember and that you can not forget the luminescent tubes used by Ball, these are in my opinion the best tubes that have been applied to a watch. They offer a higher and more resistant luminosity - an intensity 100 times greater than that of traditional luminescent paints - which can last up to 25 years.
    Honestly, if there is anyone who is in doubt when buying a Ball, I encourage you to opt for this formidable brand called Ball.
    Greetings to all and have a good day

    Personally I am really enjoing the SEIKO Samurai. For 350,- to 500 bucks one can get an amazing dive watch, depending on the variant. Clearly outperforming the infamous SKX in its finishing and overall quality. To me the styling is superior by miles and I enjoy being able to wind the movement by hand instead of having to rely on the automatic function. Overall it makes for an ideal daily driver, working with bracelets, rubber, leather, or nato straps.

      @@bezalelgeretz I don't think so, because tritium doesn't need UV light te lighten up. But UV could maybe boost it up a bit, so maybe you are right

    • @spyder2gx
      @spyder2gx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      The microtubes are coated with phosphorus and react with the decay of the H3 beta particles, the phosphorus also glows when exposed to UV. You often find Ball watches in UV lit display cases to show off the lume in daylight.

    • @iaeeniaeen1898
      @iaeeniaeen1898 5 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Strictly speaking, tritium doesn't lighten up at all. Instead, the vials contain luminescent paint that absorbs the beta emissions and emit visible light.That same paint can react with UV light in the same way it reacts with beta emissions, so shining a UV light will indeed cause it to glow much brighter and be visible to the camera in a normally lit room.

    Only downside (by flawed, but at least original, design, not a technical issue and barely visible only at night): The dial is only half luminating and the hands are not luminated at all.

    I have Rolex, Omega and Cartier in my collection but have a Certina DS Action Diver automatic and a Longines Conquest GMT automatic too. Both under £1000 and extremely nicely put together watches. You can find some really nice watches around the £1000 mark that will make you wonder what extra you actually get for paying 5 or 6 times that for a premium brand. Some are not fans of ETA movement watches but ETA’s are bullet proof.

    Those watches look great, especially the Ball with its tritium tubes. Who really needs to spend more than that for a watch if you just need one to tell the time?
    I can recommend the Tissot Seastar; I've had one since the mid-90s and though it hasn't been serviced recently it still keeps reasonable time. IMO, it's nearly as good as an Omega Seamaster for about a third of the price.
    I have a earlier incarnation of the watch than this one (mine is a plain day date automatic);
