These are all WAY outside my budget! My son gave me a Woehler for my birthday recently, and I love it! It has rectangular chronograph buttons with a two dial, well balanced, chronograph readout with blue outlines. The numbers are all blue and the leather band is black with blue stitching and a blue layer in the middle. The crystal has a lot of blue anti-reflective coating that simply glows in the light around the edges. I’m sure it wasn’t expensive but I love this watch, not just for the watch, but for the fact that my son gave it up for me. I don’t care how many thousands of dollars your fancy watches are worth they can’t beat this in my eyes!!!

Ladybirdsin16mm You could do nearly any of it with a big softbox. Karl Taylor did a video about a watch shoot he did. I think it was for Zenith. That was for still shots so it was a lot more specialised. He wasn’t using a turntable either.

I have a quartz chronograph that costed around 300 $ and I couldn't be happier. I know most people here don't really like quartz watches but I really love it, even though it doesn't have the same smooth movements as an automatic one.
Either way I wouldn't spend more than 500 on a watch, no matter how awesome it might be.

    • @gelmibson883

zi paris a decent watch costs at least $3,500 and a chronograph complication adds to the price. The cheapest decent chronographs are the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch and the TAG Heuer Monaco and the go for about $5,000. I have a Breitling Navitimer B01 and the retail price is $8,500 depending on what strap or bracelet you get.

You voice, the way you explain them, the written material is all very well thought of and you really are a genuine lover of these machines or pieces of art. The camerawork is simply amazing. The Breguet was the most unique, well thought out, and interesting in my opinion. I do think an El Primero should've been included, and it's also the answer to your last question: I'd have the El Primero, probably the Classic Cars edition (gorgeous watch if you haven't seen it).

The Avigation Big Eye is basically the affordable Type XX chronograph. I'd appreciate it a lot more in their heritage line if the history wasn't non-existent. The piece was supposedly presented to Longines from a collector and they had no record of it in their archives. Typically, some digging wouldn't be out of the ordinary to find an obscure piece from your company history. However, Longines has a line dedicated to their past offerings. All that along with a 30m water resistance rating makes it a no go for daily use for me. I'd rather have a Hamilton Intramatic Chrono if I were in the market for a piece in this price range with some history behind it. Only thing they got wrong with that was not putting the crown on the left, like TAG with the Caliber 11 Monaco offering.

I just love to watch those high end watch movements work. I used to buy back in the 60-70’s pocket watches from the 1730’s to 1890 period. Some I just restored the movement and made plexiglass cylinders to mount them in polish up the inside and outside of the tube then if the movement back in. Looks wild listening to them click clack back and forth. It is like music to me listening to antique pocket watches ticking away. I still have 9 pocket watches laying around.

I know from experience as I was about to purchase said model but a stroke of weirdness had me purchase the Seamaster used by Pierce Brosnan in Goldeneye along with the extra navy blue rubber strap that 006 (turned out to be a bad 00 agent) used in the movie. My only chronograph of choice is Breitling Premier B01 panda. In ideal world I'd go for a top end rose gold version. But only if I score a jackpot. It has 70 hour power reserve, 42mm case (my perfect size) and 100 meter WR, which is rare for a chronograph. The case and pushers are gorgeous on their own. I went through thousands of chronographs and still keep looking, but only this one keeps my attention.

About two years ago when the Breguet Type XXI was released I was seriously considering buying it but I got hung up on the fact it was a cam chronograph, on the other hand, I love the fact it's a flyback. D: The A. Lange & Sohne is magnificent.

I've been looking at the longines recently. I also really like the Tudor . At some point I can see myself opting for one. With probably the Tudor just edging it

Love the descriptions and what not, but the recent silent shots are just as tasty as that A. Lange & Söhne's mechanical endeavor of parts!

For those of you wanting an affordable mechanical chronograph i would say go for the Seagull 1963. The quality is good and the watch has a really good history. Almost impossible to find that great watch for that price. But watch out, there are many replicas out there! In fact, replicas are also using a genuine Seagull ST1901 movement but in fact cased by a 3rd party manufacturer. Seagull bought the machinery of the swiss chronograph movement Venus 175 and manufactured their own movement which we know as ST1901 now.
    Good luck!

I've two, a 1963 and a panda dial with a tachymeter. Both are amazing watches for their prices. My only regret about them is that since I bought them I don't wear some of my other watches that often because I'm so found of these.
On the 5 watches they showed here, I would definitively go for the A. Lang & Sohne, it's such a marvel. But I wouldn't even really enjoy it that much because I would be too scared to wear it.

What I did choose some time ago is a Lorenz Theatro 2004 70th Anniversary chrono with the white dial on the metal watch band, it's my daily watch now. ~600€ for a, then, relatively slightly used 7750 with a sub +/- 1s/day error was too good of a deal for me to pass up… and I really like it.

I picked up the Longiness a few months back and I wear it over my Tudor Black Bay with bracelet. Both exceptional watches but the Longiness fits with more causal attire and is far more comfortable to wear personally. For the money, I’d have to agree the Longiness is hard to beat as far as chrono’s go.

excellent review, congratulations! In your opinion, which watch to choose between Bigeye and Hamilton Intra matic based on the future possibility of maintaining the price in reselling it is also for wearability for a 17 cm wrist? thanks

I always love a watch that with elegant and fabulous looks; simple as 3 hands, with or without date. but when it comes to chronograph, a busy dial as Tag heuer formula 1 is my favorite, and suit my budget perfectly.

A Lange Sohne has the most amazing movement, definitely not in budget. I have a Breitling Navitimer 1 chrono with the B01 movement, although for sportier the new omega Seamaster chronograph with the 9900 movement is pretty sweet.

Another terrific video with mesmerizing camerawork. Love the ALS but isn't its clutch horizontal (lateral) not vertical (12:57)? I like my IWC Spitfire Chrono but want a Habring2 Chrono-Felix or Doppel 3.

Just the thing to give you a lift if you've reached a low point in your day and need to get back to enjoying life again.

I went with the BandM Clifton Chronograph. Mainly because you can get it at such a good price right now. The level of finish corresponds to a 3500 GBP watch, but you can grab one now for less than half of that.
