I find myself looking forward to your commentary on this game. You bring an insiders look at the lore that my favourite western creators just don't have and don't bother incorporating into their let's play of this game. Keep on keeping on.
Bro I’m American and I refreshed on journey to the west with TH-cam but I don’t have any of the nostalgia factor you guys would have but the game is made so well that it almost gives me the nostalgia I shouldn’t have. I’m super excited for you to see all the chapters, and ending. This game is obvious how much the devs loved the legend
same! I'm Brazilian and never knew about Journey To The West until this game was announced four years ago, and now I feel nostalgic when I listen to the theme song
There is a hidden boss in Chapter 2, once you defeat Tiger Acolyte and get his Old Rattle-Drum, you have to go around to three different locations to unlock him. One is in the village after the temple, another is just past the gate guarded by the Rat King and Second Prince, and the third is at the well near the captured horse guai.
yeah so, the secret ending/true ending is getting to the secret areas of chapters 1, 2, 4 and 5 while finishing them and also doing the treasure hunter quest in chapter 3, you can reach the great pagoda in chapter 3 too. So before you complete the game(you’ll know because the final boss is obvious), you can go back to the pagoda(i will post what to do in here if you want to read it), fight the secret boss then do main story line, or you can fight the final boss then do the secret boss fight and finish the game again by fighting the final boss again for the 2nd time for the true ending(this is what i’ve read can happen, but i’m not entirely sure if it’s true)
Im European and have been reading Wuxia novels for a couple of years now, and while I read tons of modern novels most of them are still based on the Journey to the West's mythology and tropes. So its awesome to finally get a game that faithfully represents the ancient China's mythological setting and characters. Its amazing being able to see breathtaking views and fantastical realms, realistic Yaoguais and giant Buddha's coming out from the pages of a book that I could only imagine in my head before. P.S. love your take and comments on this game and story, keep it up. I was looking for an inside look from a chinese gamer and you add much needed commentary for the uninitiated into this genre and explain its' relevance to your culture. P.S.S. you should check out character and enemy bio's in your journal, it adds much needed context about the different species of yaoguai, stories and legends about them, as well as lore on the bosses, world events and setting. Its a perfect way for the people to explore the lore and understand the events even without reading the Journey to the West.
13:57 it's set in future, after Wukong's buddhahood. I know because the guy in the intro called him "the glorious fighting buddha" a title he only earns during his buddhahood, and Wukong just wanted to go home in that first scene, saying that the heavenly warriors killed some of his monkeys.
I was talking about the secret location but yes, you’re right. Fighting Budda(斗战圣佛)was the name given to Wukong after he helped to retrieve the scripture. But I guess the secret location was set in the past tho
@@TrueSquareFace The secret was in the past and, taming the beetle supposedly happened before the Journey so the Yellow Rat actually met the Destined One before meeting the real Wukong... imaging the confusion when the Rat met Wukong for the first time and said ah you again...
Yellow Wind sage is a Rat yao that lives among mortals in a kingdom. Since the giant bug terrorizes the kingdom, once you kill it with yellow wind sage, he becomes popular and powerful in the kingdom. Then he invites all the Rats yaoguai to live in the kingdom, and soon after, everyone in the kingdom somehow turns to rat yao, no explanation for why, some say Yellow Wind Sage did it, others said Lingji, the headless guy did it because yellow wind sage got more popular than Budda in the kingdom and its a form of punishment. TLDR, the whole chapter story focuses on the controversial topic of whether Yaoguai and mortals can live together in harmony. At the end of the animation, the voice, Lingji (headless guy) emphasizes again that Yaoguai and mortals cant be together, but thru the animation, we can see that it is still controversial.
I’m literally absolutely loving you narrating the true story of wukong over the gameplay, plz can you upload more regular as this is what I look forward too coming home from work, plus once you finish the game I think you should narrate the whole story/as much as you can that the game portraits in one long vid as a complete conclusion of some sort, keep smashing it ! 🏴

Chapter 2 in a nutshell: "Rats! We're rats! We're da rats! We prey at night! We stalk at night! We're da rats!" Yellow Wind Sage: I'm da giant rat dat makes all of da rulez! "Let's see what kinda trouble we can get ourselves into!"
3:30 HE´S THICC. I recall against Both Sand Sage and Black Wind Bear Wukong needed special tools from the Goddess that they normally asked for help.(Yeah, just saw the part where you mentioned it).
Just had this dropped on my algorithm today and quickly subbed. Really looking forward to this series and hearing the og story from a Chinese native who really knows and loves the story. Edit: also just occurred to me you seem to be doing a chapter per episode. There's only 6 main chapters with one possible secret ending. Feel free to break it up into smaller parts with exploration because it is a lot. Also i have a feeling why you haven't uploaded yet if you're at the end of the next chapter and a lot of us feel your pain lol
To get the second ending you have to Fine every secret area (there one in every chapter but 3 and 6) Once you get 5 specific items (story items) in chapter 6 out can go to chapter 3 and find a secret area there, beat the game after beating the boss there to get the ending (You can get the normal ending then continue and get the other ending)
1:45 yes I did! it's not that common here in Brazil, I struggled to find it some years ago, I liked it. I don't really remember the taste, but I remember associating it with chicken flavor
6:06 Woah, I didn’t even realize this was a secret. I remember accidentally baiting the rat into charging into that wall when I fought him, which must’ve opened it for me. I was wondering why there was this big open area without a boss lol
Yeah, pretty sure that the First Prince's heavy attack is the intended method, but a sufficiently heavy attack of your own (like the Wight) works as a backup method.
To unlock the secret ending u gotta defeat all the bosses in the secret areas of each chapter and also the treasure hunter side quest in chapter 3...then proceed to the "Great Pagoda", defeat the hidden boss there and then beat the final boss for secret ending.
For the transformation red tides there’s a bar on the bottom when you fill that up with light attacks. After you fill it dodging in a certain direction will result in certain attacks. Coward does the most damage and it’s close range. Back dodge into heavy will do a leap back then dash forward with decent damage. Side dodge into heavy is absolutely useless.
I hope you didnt miss the horse in act 1, exhaust his talk options and then find him in act 2 exhaust his talk options, then act 3,4 and 5 but once you talked to him in act 1, never proceed to the next acts without talking to him first otherwise you miss the ending of that quest
I think some might have explained in the comment, what happened with the fox lady was a dream that the scholar had, and he decided to kill the fox he saved because of a dream. The words at the end of the animation was said by LingJi, and if you complete 100% of this chapter and read the portrait, you will really see who has been scheming this all along
If you feel like your missing context, the glossary for enemies is more of a collection of short stories. All together they provide context for the entire area and the motivations for everyone involved.
In the English voice acting, which is all high quality, different characters might speak in various different English dialects & accents. The headless man has a really strong regional accent when he speaks, like Scottish or Welsh or something along those lines, but his song lyrics are still sung in Chinese.

I might’ve realized something because of you…..you mentioned the guy with the missing head had a different accent. Maybe his accent is different because that’s the personality of his body. Meaning thats how he’d want to act without thought; without using his head.
I have eaten frog. The meat is good, taste just like chicken, maybe slightly better. I just don't like to think that I'm eating a frog, the image just gross me out. Maybe because I'm Asian, I love Eastern dragon more. They look more like a mythical creature. They have more magic, most of the time the dragon can turn into human form. It is also the symbol of emperor. Western dragon most of the time, their only abilities are flying and fire breathing. Base on my experience with xianxia Cdrama, I understand "yao" as creature with supernatural power that can shapeshifting into beautiful human form. "Guai" as in creature with abnormal form, either partly animal or whole animal that can move like human. Both mostly practice sorcery and have immortality. Yao has more abilities than guai, guai is physically stronger.
So now that you've fought FUCKING RADAHN, I think you should go back and watch your DS3 videos. I looked at your sister friede fight recently, and it looks like SLOW MOTION by comparison.
When you asked how the English version handles the singing in Chapter 2, well, it doesn't. It just leaves it in as is.
