Just subbed to your channel . I build a similar with an AliExpress replica. Caleb’s model wasn’t available at the time. Can’t wait to see more videos from you brother 🙏🏾
Imo brother in think you should really power it via USBC vs dummy battery. 1. If the dummy battery gets fried so is your camera 2. If the comeback fail you could possibly corrupt all your footage
Thanks for the input bro. I believe it comes down to the voltage of the dummy battery. It is possible to fry your camera using too powerful of a dummy battery. The two I recommend were made specifically for the Sony cameras. I’ve had no issues so far 🙏🏾
I didn’t try putting the base plate of my tripod on the bottom of the rig but I don’t see why that wouldn’t work. However most people with setups like this would have a rod base plate with the tripod plate under that. Hope this helps.
and my experience says in almost 10 years I had never saw a single person on a set with such a over-complicated rig. small crews and solo trying simplify and make it light, big productions use a proper cameras. all this stuff may be some sort of cargo cult, or ad for companies like smallrig
@@trainspotednothing complicated about it mr. Grumpy. Just a decent power solution, grips, a monitor, microphone and handle. Something that makes his setup flexible. And just a few things. If you have that much experience you would also know the need for the camera to have some weight for better handheld shots. And secondly, Mirrorless cameras (if you paid attention for the last 10 years) has become VERY capable and affordable, and therefor the barrier of entry smaller. Thus people might actually, over time, build a "rig" which, you guessed it, leads to the market for these things. Smallrig was founded in 2013... I dont own anthing like this, but i see solo shooters using rigs like it all the time. And guess what - they all have very enthustiatic and valid reasons (for the most part) why their rigs look like they do. You must be a joy on a "set".
Hey, cool video man! Question, I read a lot recently about dummy batteries frying the FX3 board. Aren't you scared of that? I also use a dummy battery for my FX3 but I'm now really questioning myself on if I should still use it.
Thanks man I really appreciate it! I also heard of people having dummy batteries fry their cameras. I’ve done researched and learned if you don’t have the proper voltage in your dummy battery, this can happen. Based on Caleb’s recommendations, he said to use either the dummy battery I reference in the video or the kondor blue one. I trust his judgement.

Damn how'd you get the wooden handle on? My grip handle wont fit because it blocks the hdmi area. Help!
Good video man, but why not get an NPF dummy to Dtap for your monitor to keep the weight off the front? Just another option 🙂
This would be a great option if I wanted to lighting things up. I actuality like the added weight to make my handheld shots more stable.
How would you mount this to a tripod? Im not very knowledgeable about camera setups so please let me know.
