Hay Mate Paul from Australia , being a person that does HEAPS of off road riding, I always used to do my tyres and ( as in let air out for off road ) , theses days the only time I do is when it’s VERY wet or sandy . Other than that I run 25 psi front and 30 psi rear . This heaps with the following 1. Not having to air up and down a lot 2. Works well on both on and off road 3,. The main reason saves on getting pinch flats or bent rims .
Hey Paul, thanks for tuning in. yes i almost never go under 25 psi, that works good for me. i do go up to 35 psi when i do road all day cause it feels better and helps with the longevity of the tires. thanks so much for taking time to write a comment, much appreciated. cheers Marc🤙🏼
another great video! I really appreciate the extra effort with the different cameras and angles! even if it means you need more time for the actual ride, it's a great addition to the video. keep having a good time and drive carefully.
Thanks mate 🤙🏼 yes it’s very important to me to make the videos as best as I can, I enjoy it and so I don’t really mind the extra effort🤗 thank you for watching my friend 🙌🏼
Portugal is amazing for its variety of roads and tracks away from the tourist areas. Check out the Portugal Les a Les (sorry English keyborad can't insert accents) rally - organised by the Portuguese Motorcycling Federation. On road and off road versions on offer and a great exprerience.
@@MarcTravels @Marc Travels the clacking noise.. if its at the top of the engine.. head.. it'll be valve tappets, they have adjustment screws an easy simple fix.. if its half way down right side it will be timing chain slap, sometimes the automatic tensioner can stick between click setting.. or ot maybe at the end of its auto adjustment.. there are manual adjust kits or you can make youre own with the right size bolt & lock nut.. either way not an immediate problem they can rattle really loud for ages without problems.. new chain can be fitted without removing the head but breaking the old chain & connecting the new one & carefully rotating the engine to pull it through
Have had Honda Dominator. That engine sound is usual, had the same. Check for valve clearance, chain tensioner and chain extension. My chain skipped 1-2 teeth. After that I needed to change it, it was too extended. It is not complicated to change yourself, have done it.

That Honda NX is a tractor, the low end torque from the big 650 single, along with the relatively light weight make it a great bike for that kind of riding. Still that was a long day of riding, well done
The ticking noise maybe could be the auto decompressor mechanism sticking if the noise happened just when starting the motor. Revving the motor a little may unstick the mechanism and clear the noise. Maybe :)
Thanks mate. Yeah it’s hard to get away from the news channels for me too but I figured it would be good to post a video for you guys. Thank you for watching my friend 🤙🏼

nice video marc , i hope you dont get the strange noise again from the engine. i dont think its a great problem, but you have to find out someday what the noise is.you cant take the risk your engine falls out on the act by example. the trip on the act is great! take care!
Thought some of that up hill steep of roaring looked a bit difficult… well done! Hope the Honda is well and that noise doesn’t prove to be an issue for you! Great episode! Ride safe!
@@MarcTravels Brilliant thanks so much for taking the time to reply, really appreciate it, will look for the boots👍🏻 and look forward to your future vids they have been soo good. 👍🏻👏👏
Guess that sound could be your valves, maybe you should check valve adjustment or it was low on oil. I had similar problem on my Honda FMX650. Great video btw 😉
Check the oil strainer on the sump it could be blocked slightly as it could result in low oil pressure.. The first thing to be effected would be the exhaust rockers as they run hottest so would have Intermittent rattling particularly under load.. Great tracks looking forward
My suggestion is that the occasional noise is caused by low oil pressure, caused by cam wear, check your oil level you may be low on oil ? Shown by wear on motor , it’s up to you on repair , who knows !

good video Marc, looked a bit of a challenge in certain parts but you'll be glad you have done it in the end. funny hearing you say knackerd , a word thats used a lot here in scotland. the noise you were hearing might have just been a stone or something caught up between the sump guard , if you only heard it twice and now its gone...just a thought . cheers for the video , few camera shots that must have taken a bit of time to set up. stay safe 👍
Hehe yeah I learned that word in New Zealand 🇳🇿 I like it 🤗 thanks mate, appreciate your nice comment…it does take a lot of work with different angles but it make the videos so much cooler than just a helmet cam 🎥 thanks for tuning in 🤙🏼
As someone below said, maybe the cam chain tensioner. At least the noise went. I remember on my XT500 in the heat of central Spain, a ticking started. I had run short of oil. Topped up but it clack clack clacked all the way back to the north of England. Top-end rebuild. I've never done this route, although I've ridden through Mertola a few times. Okay hotel for 25 euros. Hi Marc, great video work. I'm glad you're enjoying the ACT. I scouted that route with Filipe Elias and Elvio Andrade (of Touratech PT) some years ago now (2016?). We rode it twice, north to south - me on a Super Tenere 1200. It's a wonderful route through a beautiful country and it's great to see that coming through in your video. Good to see you going old school with the Dominator, too, a great bike and an excellent choice for adventure even now. Look after yourself and the bike and enjoy the riding. Best, Jon Bentman

Great video marc lovely scenery, not the clutch marc is it probably the being of road and the oil getting thinner with being hot .stay safe. Mick England.
I had an issue with my Domi. The Rückschlagventil did not work after oilchange. Check if there is oilpressure! I stuffed my Ausgleichshebel after 100km! Good luck.
Life is a ride. Good luck. - Machst gute Filme, bleib bei diesem Stiel. Ohne Werbung und all dem Materialgedöns.
Hi Marc Really Nice video. Nostalgia of our last trip there. Great People and amazing landscape. Did you find the origin of the noise. Sometimes it comes just from a screw with the offroad and vibration, it unscrews. Enjoy.
Pity you are not doing a gastronomic tour of Portugal. :D Every place you stop there is a "special" place on my list. Cacela Velha is by far an Alagarve a must. You have to come back with Maree and stay there for some beach days and sunset. About the engine noise...hey, just think... that's how most of the new ducatis sound. :D
Haha…that’s what I thought!!! I didn’t say it out loud, I don’t wanna offend any Ducati rider but a lot of them really sound like that 😁 thanks for watching my friend 🤙🏼
It was nice to learn a little about your editing strategy. You must have a pretty slick workflow to produce that days content after riding all day. Bravo!
No I publish only 2 videos a week cause the uploading process with titles and subtitles takes time as well. But the videos are all done for this journey, I edit every night so that I don’t have to go through tons of video files when I’m back home. That would be too crazy. Many more episodes to come for this journey. Let me know if you have any more questions 🤗
Hey Marc.. i'm still laughing until now....last weekend i did stage 4 and 5 with my transalp and stayed in room number 1 of the "italiana"😂😂😂😂...a few more days and maybe we passed by each other on the trail....great trails and great landscapes..you'll love the other stages. .good trip
Domi: Sorry for giving him the ACT .gpx 😅 Marc: Hope you liked and enjoyed "ACT" and "Alentejo" ❤️ And offroad needs tarining, and takes time, but you did very well m8, gratz ✌️
Wow , that looked a great day ! I think you and the bike did really well , especially that 1st section? 👍 You’re really honest about your abilities with the off-road and with the head-scratching with the bike problems etc 😉 that definitely makes fairly novice people like me admire what you’re taking on !! Top man 👍
Have ask you before, why you always add engine oil. Adding engine means that there’s a leak your engine.. perhaps piston or piston ring.. maybe it’s time for you to oversize the piston and ring piston. And check the top set engine/engine valve/camchain.. nice vlog Marc
I think it’s not unusual for big single cylinders to take oil and especially for the dominator it’s a Normal thing. But you’re right, something wrong and I will have it looked at. Thanks my friend 🤙🏼 cheers, Marc
great video , the noise could have something to do with the valves or timing chain, i have kawasaki vn 1500 and it has hydrolic valve lifters , after standing still long periods it does the same kind of clicking noise, thats what i base my comment on
Sounds like the cam chain tensioner. Needs to be replaced . Best not to ride till then. Not to be to dramatic but if it let’s go good by Dollars $$$$$ 🙁 maybe change chain as well. Sorry Mark good luck
You should really buy a KTM 🤭🤭 Nice vid bro. Thx for that. Would love to see your next video traveling a few months through Turkey. 👍 An awesome country.
Hey Thomas, thanks for tuning in. Yeah I saw on the maps that parts of this section where also part of the tet but in general it’s separate and not so difficult as the tet I heard. You’ll see more of it in the next episode. Cheers, Marc 🤗

Could it the clutch basket? Next time you hear the sound, engage the clutch. If the sound diesapears, then you know what the problem is.
Chain cam tensioner (Steuerkettenspanner):
Honda Part No 14512-MG3-000
I would agree, cam chain tensioner. Yo need to know if it’s oil pressure fed? It could be that it’s clicked into its next position and could be fine.

Thanks mate, glad you’re back 💪🏼🤙🏼
Nice one Marc,Veil Spaß😉✌
Thanks Dave 🤗🤙🏼
Welcome back.
Amazing views and places! I am not sure I would venture there with my GS as I am a road biker but the road you did is surely top!
I wouldn’t do this with a big gs either for sure. But no problem with the lightweight Honda 💪🏼🤗
I had an issue with my Domi. The Rückschlagventil did not work after oilchange. Check if there is oilpressure! I stuffed my Ausgleichshebel after 100km! Good luck.
Alright Hans, will make sure to check that. Thanks 🤙🏼
Life is a ride. Good luck. - Machst gute Filme, bleib bei diesem Stiel. Ohne Werbung und all dem Materialgedöns.
Danke Hans, werde ich checken. Ich mach weiter, danke fürs zuschauen 🤗🤙🏼
That ACT looks very interesting, I think I will plan a trip to Portugal (not only for the ACT)!
Yes go for it man🤗🤙🏼 thanks for tuning in
Each video is better than the last! :) Did you go to Minas de São Domingos?
Thanks mate!🤗 I think I was riding through it. Thank you for tuning in 🤙🏼
Wieder ein tolles Video. Und ich lerne dabei auch noch Englisch 👍😊
Cool, freut mich🤗🤙🏼
Great video buddy ride safe
Thanks man 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Hi Marc
Really Nice video. Nostalgia of our last trip there. Great People and amazing landscape.
Did you find the origin of the noise. Sometimes it comes just from a screw with the offroad and vibration, it unscrews.
Enjoy.
Thanks for tuning in mate 🤙🏼 will try and sort it out in the next episode 🤗 cheers
👍
Pity you are not doing a gastronomic tour of Portugal. :D Every place you stop there is a "special" place on my list. Cacela Velha is by far an Alagarve a must. You have to come back with Maree and stay there for some beach days and sunset. About the engine noise...hey, just think... that's how most of the new ducatis sound. :D
Haha…that’s what I thought!!! I didn’t say it out loud, I don’t wanna offend any Ducati rider but a lot of them really sound like that 😁 thanks for watching my friend 🤙🏼
Ciao Marc.. Bello il video👍
Thanks davide 🤗🤙🏼
I guess the noise will be coming from decompressor which is located on camshat. The best fix for it is just to remove it.
Okay, thanks man 🤗🤙🏼
It was nice to learn a little about your editing strategy. You must have a pretty slick workflow to produce that days content after riding all day. Bravo!
Thanks mate, yes getting faster every video and I don’t sleep much😁 thanks for tuning in 🤙🏼
No I publish only 2 videos a week cause the uploading process with titles and subtitles takes time as well. But the videos are all done for this journey, I edit every night so that I don’t have to go through tons of video files when I’m back home. That would be too crazy. Many more episodes to come for this journey. Let me know if you have any more questions 🤗
Great efforts, really. Drop by buddy.
Maybe cam chain tensioner... My yamaha has a loud cam chain tensioner noise.. Ride safe✌🏻👍🏻
Yes I think so too. Thanks mate 🤙🏼
Hey Marc.. i'm still laughing until now....last weekend i did stage 4 and 5 with my transalp and stayed in room number 1 of the "italiana"😂😂😂😂...a few more days and maybe we passed by each other on the trail....great trails and great landscapes..you'll love the other stages. .good trip
Hehe awesome! What a nice host lady 🤗 liked that hotel. Thanks for tuning in 🤙🏼
Domi: Sorry for giving him the ACT .gpx 😅
Marc: Hope you liked and enjoyed "ACT" and "Alentejo" ❤️
And offroad needs tarining, and takes time, but you did very well m8, gratz ✌️
Haha…thanks man! Glad you told me about it! And also your app worked really good for me! So much fun 🤗🤙🏼
Was just listening and when I heard it my first thought was valves
Yeah that’s what I thought too. Will try to sort it out in the next episode. Stay tuned my friend 🤙🏼
Hello 🙋 cool video and places. I Don't think it's a good feeling to hear that sound in the middle of noware 😬
💪😎
Thanks mate 🤗 yeah that’s scary man…but so far so good! Cheers my friend 🤙🏼
The noise i believe is the cam chain tensioner spring
Yes I think that could be it. thanks🤗🤙🏼
Nice background music! 🎶
Thanks Jeroen🤙🏼
Wow , that looked a great day ! I think you and the bike did really well , especially that 1st section? 👍 You’re really honest about your abilities with the off-road and with the head-scratching with the bike problems etc 😉 that definitely makes fairly novice people like me admire what you’re taking on !! Top man 👍
Thank you clwyd🤗
Have ask you before, why you always add engine oil. Adding engine means that there’s a leak your engine.. perhaps piston or piston ring.. maybe it’s time for you to oversize the piston and ring piston. And check the top set engine/engine valve/camchain.. nice vlog Marc
I think it’s not unusual for big single cylinders to take oil and especially for the dominator it’s a Normal thing. But you’re right, something wrong and I will have it looked at. Thanks my friend 🤙🏼 cheers, Marc
Honda Dominator eats oil all the time. It is normal, have had domie
@@KKKKKKK12344 oo ok.. just know it 👍🏽👍🏽
Beautiful bike brother. Get a RAM mount for your phone.
Sure, thanks 🤙🏼
Can chain ( adjuster ) coming loose . You need to do dirt more often .The more off road you do the better you will get at it and enjoy it .
yes that might be right. thanks my friend 🤙🏼
@@MarcTravels no worries 👍
Danke Christian 🤗
Schöne Tour übrigens 😉👍...weiter so !
Dankeschön 🤗🤙🏼
You went to Cacela Velha, I hope you went to check the seaside landscape or you have missed something really beautifull >.>
Great. Can you please share the route please as I may be going there next month
Yeah sure. adventurecountrytracks.com/ you find the gps routes on the act homepage. Have a great trip mate 🤙🏼
great video , the noise could have something to do with the valves or timing chain, i have kawasaki vn 1500 and it has hydrolic valve lifters , after standing still long periods it does the same kind of clicking noise, thats what i base my comment on
Alright thanks Dave, I’ll try and get it looked at in the next episode. Thanks for tuning in 🤙🏼
07:33 spark is no tight ? or ohter problem fuelpump no pumping fuel correctly (because pumpy road ) ?
Thanks Toomas, I have no fuel pump but I think it’s maybe the cam chain. Will have to let somebody look into that. Thank you so much for watching 🤗🤙🏼
I think it's the distribution chain tensioner
Yeah I think you’re right. Thanks man 🤙🏼
Hi it sounds like the cam chain tensioner, the chain is the noise the maybe sticking or worn, buy a manual tensioner easy enough to fit.
Alright thanks 🤙🏼
Sounds like the cam chain tensioner. Needs to be replaced . Best not to ride till then. Not to be to dramatic but if it let’s go good by Dollars $$$$$ 🙁 maybe change chain as well. Sorry Mark good luck
Thanks David. Let’s try and find some help in today’s episode💪🏼 see you later 🎬
I think its a worn timing chain tensioner, common on 650 honda motors .
Alright thanks Bjorn. I think you’re right! Thanks for tuning in 🤙🏼
You should really buy a KTM 🤭🤭
Nice vid bro. Thx for that.
Would love to see your next video traveling a few months through Turkey. 👍 An awesome country.
Hehe not buying another bike for now😁 yeah i wanna come to turkey! Great country. Thanks for watching 🤙🏼
Nice day on the ACT, but maybe the engine needs a little check-up, before you continue your trip 🤷🏼♂️?
Another beautiful video 🙂👍
Yes it really was, I’ll try to get it sorted the next day…let’s see. Thanks for tuning in Lorenzo 🤙🏼
Marc, regarding the noise, it may be the cam chain tensioner malfunctioning, or the cam chain being too streched, needing replacement
Yeah I think you’re right! Thanks Pedro 🤙🏼
It is chain tensioner in the engine.
Alright, thanks man🤙🏼
Awesome ! What GPS app do you use for off-road?
Thanks mate 🤙🏼 I used OsmAnd app for the ATC. Worked great. Cheers
Hey Marc! Nice trail. Never heard of the ACT. Looks awesome. Is that part of the TET network? Enjoy the rest of the ride!
Hey Thomas, thanks for tuning in. Yeah I saw on the maps that parts of this section where also part of the tet but in general it’s separate and not so difficult as the tet I heard. You’ll see more of it in the next episode. Cheers, Marc 🤗
Moin Marc,
Danke Peter, werde dran bleiben. Hoffentlich nichts dramatisches. Liebe Grüße, Marc🤙🏼
