“All barrel adjusters are sprung”... except they aren’t. Only gear adjusters are sprung because they’re indexed, brake barrel adjusters are unsprung and use a locking collar to retain the correct position once set.
At 0:44 you can see on the lever what appears to be a threaded hole for a pinch bolt. Lot easier to adjust the cable at the lever than at the seat post.

I used a hex wrench to take off the lever to get that wire through. Watch out, there is a small washer in there.

I think you've done it backwards. The solid end should be by the seat and the end you cut and easily adjust should be by handle bars.
