Dragon Ball Z is probably the greatest anime of all time, but that does not mean I think it's the best. There are many other anime and manga that may be better than Dragon Ball Z. So in this video, I'll breakdown whether or not I think the show that features Straw Hat Luffy, One Piece, is better than Dragon Ball Z.

One more thing the story is easy to get into and the accessibility of dragon ball is the only reason why one piece will never be as big as dragon ball.

The only reason there shouldn't be more than 500 episodes is because the pacing in the One Piece anime is straight garbage compared to the manga lol, but your argument about the pacing makes good sense. Super excited for more Vs episodes!

When you said One Piece had bad dubs were you referring to 4kids and Funimation? I ask because alot of the same actors from the Dragonball series currently play characters in One Piece's Funimation dub. I'd highly recommend it if you've never seen it before

I started watching op from 30 December 2022 till today and I've gotta be honest ..... The anime is AWESOME. A friend of mine introduced it to me
and my God I hated anime during that time especially db so I decided to give one piece a chance, and man!!!! I really can't go a whole day without watching op. Because of that, I changed my name to Kal .D. Oz .😁😂. I'm now watching dressrosa and I can't wait to see Monkey D Luffy the king of anime kick Flamingo's ass. Love you one piece fans

DragonBall z will always be my favorite and it is legendary and always will be BUT a part of me knows one piece is the best anime created so far in terms of story, emotional weight and characters. I'm not saying dbz doesn't have these but man one piece is just f@cking wild. If you haven't watched just do it, doesn't matter how many episodes they are. Just commit to watching two or three seasons and you can be we stop
Man, as a fellow Dragon Ball fan who got into One Piece, the "more than five characters matter" statement hit hard for me. It's so true. Same goes for comparing the action. Dragon Ball Z has the better spectacles with the fast paced combat and the lighting the anime gives to whenever an energy blast explodes, though that's not to say One Piece's action is garbage either. I've once heard someone say One Piece's fights focus on the emotions and ideologies of the characters, and that sounds pretty accurate. Still though, seeing a really cool punch, laser beam, fireball, meteor or whatever weird attack get thrown around is always exciting anyway.
And on that note, I'm kind of surprised you said One Piece doesn't have many martial artists. I always assumed the various fighting styles introduced was another way to show off a strong character (alongside the examples you gave; Devil Fruits, Haki, weapons, body modifications.) Like, Sanji has his Black Leg Style (even if it's never really name dropped in the series,) fishmen (and Koala) have Fishman Karate and Fishman Jujutsu, the World Government and Navy (and others who picked the martial art up) have the Six Powers, the Happosui Navy has Hasshoken, etc. Some of the stronger characters seen so far appear to be gifted unarmed, close combat fighters, like Sanji, Jinbe, Lucci and Ivankov (his Newkama Kenpo,) for example. Admittedly, there aren't that many martial artists in the story, but the ones we've seen are clearly strong enough for me to think of martial arts as a valid power system in the world of One Piece too.
I thing I feel like one piece does better than dbz in the fighting scenes is like you said emotions, but also it feels like everyone fights differently unlike dbz where alot of the characters fight the same but one character is less stronger
@@nani4249 Oh yeah, totally. I guess I should have included that too, but for whatever reason, I forgot about it. But thankfully a lot of shonen have learned from DBZ and now know it's more fun when there are many different ways to fight than just one.

Bro, same thing happened to me. DBZ og fan here but recent One Piece watcher, it's the best story in anime...possibly in all fiction.
I used to always say Dragonballz was the best until I watched all those seasons of One Piece.. man .. One Piece is Legendary in every way..

Its always been bigger than Naruto, One Piece annual profit is double that of Naruto its not even close. Naruto is just more well known in SOME western countries but thats moot since majority of the biggest anime/manga markets are Asian countries where One Piece is significantly more popular.
I think you’re kinda misunderstanding it. I’m not saying Dragon Ball is not popular but you gotta have to understand that One Piece is more popular than DB in Asia and in Japan. One Piece is the King of shonen in Japan. Also, One Piece is the most popular anime in China. So it cannot be that DB is the most popular, that just the Westeners perspective

Not saying that one piece is more popular but it will surpass db after 1 or 2 decades. Or it can take even less.
One piece does not have the greatest story, repetitive writing, basic plot, fake character deaths except for Ace who's death was overshadowed by stupidity, no back story for Zoro in WANO, barely any kaido backstory even big mom got a better backstory in whole cake, Oda literally stating he doe not care about one piece having a good story and just wants it to be his goofy vision. Literally up to egg head island and saw vegapunks design and was like this ain't it. They start it off with some cliche seraphims fight because oda can't actually continue his story without some repetitive mini bosses for the crew to beat. Still waiting for Kizaru to mess up the straw hats because if Kizaru does not do something meaningful the marines are frauds which just hurts one piece's story telling and power scaling more.
It arguably has the greatest story, no repetitive writing, not a basic plot and don't forget deaths like whitebard, oars junior, pedro etc., But you are right. It has fake deaths which are bad. And ace's death was actually justifiable, backstory is not everything for a character, and kaido is a better villain than big mom and also doffy. And one piece has an amazing story with goofiness which oda does in an amazing way. And one piece has amazing and one of the most consistent power scaling of all time with amazing story telling

Its a toss up for me, I like both so much, but I find Dragon Ball easier to read if that makes sense. One Piece is just harder to follow along

DragonBall is dope and Z is what grew up with. Some of GT but i now prefer One Piece. Such a good CONSISTENT story and I love the jokes because they actually made me laugh without being too try hard. They flow naturally with the context. Then when it gets real. It gets really real. Fantastical and whimsical as well. The perfect type of entertainment for me. DBS sucks harder than a blonde at a frat house and made me respect GT more but people just can't stop shilling over DragonBall. Wilder hair=wilder powers. I'm not 10-13 anymore so that doesn't do it for me. Fighting for fighting sake isn't appealing to me. I like adventure and wonder. One Piece offers that. Dragon ball offers screaming and ki blasts and hair dye in excess.

For me a lot of animes are better than op cause they are better adapted. As a db fan I know how many things other shonen copy and the emotions it gives can nver be matched. Op manga is good but anime sucks.
Personally I think what makes dragon ball bad is that goku just asspulls transformations and then still gets his ass beat

Why would the uploader of this video heart such an absolute garbage take? Goku reaps the fruits of his labor because if you haven't realized, training is basically all he ever does. That's more than I can say for Luffy or a garbage character like Shinra

TBH I'm not a fan of One Piece mostly because of how 4kids ruined it, all I can say about One Piece now it's basically Toei and Shonen Jump's own Simpsons, like The Simpsons One Piece has gone on for so long since 1997 (Manga) and Toei would animated it in 1999 that it has become the bread and butter for Shonen Jump and Toei, IMO One Piece can't hold a candle to Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z.
I think why Dragon Ball GT is bad and Dragon Ball Super is average IMO and has a lot of issues is because of One Piece, when Dragon Ball ended One Piece took the spotlight and since then it has been milked to death that other animes done by Toei has been subpar at best BC of this series BC One Piece has become that popular.

C'mon, Dragon Ball is the king of fighting anime, goku and most of it's characters will destroy each character in One Piece, sure one piece have more variety and better storyline, but the pure aesthetics of how dragon ball demonstrate power it's like a verb to fighting, I can't be the only one who got goosebumps watching Dragon Ball Super Broly, and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods in theaters, of course dragon ball has his dumb mistakes but I'm talking about the general idea, the baseline of what it is, I just don't know how to explain what it is. If the quality of it was more constant and the power levels made more sense this would've been a God of anime, plus It's more relatable and looks better, One Piece seems more childish.
One piece is like the walking dead it's too long and slow, I don't get whys there was so much hype, just how I don't understand how "The Godfather" movie has a high rating on IMDb, I gaved it a watch and holy hell it was the most boring movie I've ever watched, I had to take off the dvd (fyi: 2009), break it multiple times, insulted it, and throw it to the trash, and then cursed everyone who liked that movie.

If I have to watch 300 episodes for the story to get "good" then the story isn't good at all 💀. Horrible pacing . One piece is literally like Tom and jerry. It shouldn't be taken this seriously. Most of it is boring and goofy asf. It's so unserious to the point it just takes the emotions away. Sorry, one piece will never be more popular than dragon ball. I could spend months watching 1000 plus episodes of one piece...
Or I can just skip to a better anime 😂. Even if naruto has 40 percent filler, ima still watch it over one piece. One piece has become unwatchable. Only die hard dedicated one piece fans can manage to watch over 10000 episodes. While dragon ball has new fans coming in everyday. One piece may have a good story at the end but like I said, that's after 1000 episodes. While dragon ball has a good story from the start. One piece is overrated, it is way too goofy to get into and now knowing that Gear 5 is basically just a cartoon character aka Tom and Jerry slapstick, there is no reason to watch the show. It does not feel like a real serious anime to me, its too goofy and long to make the investment. If I want to watch goofy I will watch the Three Stooges that did it better than anyone. Naruto and Dragonball blow One Piece away as far as a watchable anime, the biggest indicator is if you have to constantly tell people to read the manga over watching the anime, you probably dont have a good show, it is just nostalgia and that is all Hollywood is selling these days, that is why they are making a One Piece live action.
