This track has such personality. Rather than try and overwhelm you with dread, the song slowly climbs up and down, starting the feel of cheerily knowing you are at a great moment of a journey - and then sinks low to remind you that such journeys will have intense challenges for you to endure. But then the track climbs up again, reminding you that those challenges are just as fun. I love this game.

Roxanne in R/S/E: Oh hello there (omg I'm so timid I'm afraid they think I'm a school child) Roxanne in ORAS: Bitch please have my Rock pokemon as I'm clever af
Hoenn still has my favourite set of Gym Leaders. I guess this might largely be due to the difficulty which made these gym leaders so much more memorable. Roxanne's Nosepass was one of the harder first leader's Ace because it was quite bulky at that point ... And Roxanne in Emerald had 3 potions... Brawly's bulk up Makuhita can sweep your team if you aren't prepared with good options like Dustox and Sableye. And then the real difficulty of Hoenn's Gym Leaders shows up. Wattson is an absolute nightmare if you didn't pick Mudkip; Wattson is far harder without Marshtomp than how easy he is with Marshtomp, especially in Emerald. Flannery ... So she is the fourth gym leader, quite recent as per her, and yet she has a Torkoal with Overheat, can set up Sun, use a combo of Attract + Body Slam (30% chance to paralyse) and even has a white herb? And we thought Whitney's Miltank packed an annoying movepool! Norman, without protect or dig (which many of us didn't have on our Pokemon) could easily screw us. Also let us not forget that his Linoone can outspeed every Pokemon at this stage, and runs belly drum. Winona ... Now this was INSANITY! That Altaria's movepool was too much to handle at that point ... Even with ice beam your victory isn't guaranteed against this monster of a gym leader ... Oh Gosh I am reviving my unpleasant memories I'm moving forward! Tate and Liza in Emerald were ridiculous. With Claydol running Earthquake whose teammates had either levitate, or were flying types, it was already a crazy good team. But wait! Xatu can set up calm mind which will reduce the damage from dark type moves and increase its own damage output. Also, this thing can set up Sunny Day to lessen the horrible weakness of their team against water. And if Xatu didn't set up Sun, Solrock will and will spam Solar Beam on your water types. Combine Solrock with Lunatone, a Pokemon that can setup itself calm mind or support his team with hypnosis and light screen, and you have got a super stacked team to go up against. Wallace's Ace was a Milotic, an already top tier Pokémon, especially in Gen 3. And he makes up for his relatively lower difficult gym leader battle by a much more threatening champion team in Emerald. Juan's Kingdra ... SCREW THAT THING! IT'S PURE EVIL! Even Claire's Kingdra or Flannery's Torkoal aren't that insane.
Gen 2: We allow more expansive gameplay, as well as a post game campaign which allows you to travel to the Kanto region, thus giving you two games in one Hoenn: Welcome to Heonn, land of trumpets and water.
Trumpets, water and waifus. A school teacher, a charbroiled cinnamon roll, a woman as elegant as a bird, an Alolan dancer, a robo-waifu, a pirate, a dragon successor, an idol... or a 12-year-old trainer. Lots of choices.
I agree that RSE had a better soundtrack. That could just be me as a fan talking since Hoenn is my favorite region. But hey.We all have different opinions.
Am I the only one who noticed that the Hoenn Gym leaders names almost matches their type they specializes in? ROXanne - rock BRAWley- fighting WATTson- Electric FLAnnery- fire WINonna- Flying Liza & Tate- not really a close type match up here WAllace- Water Pretty interesting
Well, most of the Gym leader names were puns, even moreso in Japanese versions. bROCK, Mist-y (her Japanese name - Kasumi - is literally "mist"), Lt. Surge (as in "electrical surge"), Falkner (sound close to "Falconer"), Chuck (as in "throw" or pair of 'chuck), Clair (Dragon Lair - in Japanese, it's "ibuki", breat - as in "dragon's breath")... pretty much every one of those names is a pun.
Congratulations, you are really, REALLY slow to the party! What if I told you that every gym leader ever has a pun name lmao, some of them they straight up didn't even try to hide it
Listening to it on its own made me wish I appreciated it more when I played on the handheld... in-game on replays though I'd always be disappointed it wasn't the E4 theme, since that quickly became my favourite battle theme even over Gen 1's Champion music when I first heard it. Oh well, paying my respects to it now
Damn, when I hear this music and close my eyes I can still see first battle between me and Roxanne. My over leveled Treecko and an under leveled Shroomish, still burned deep into my memory!
I guarantee you; even with ice beam, your victory in that battle really REALLY depends on your luck in that battle and your luck with Pokemon natures, if you are playing on set mode. This is because a +2 crit earthquake destroys everything at that point, and while not everyone plays around them (certainly not me), crit at that point is an extremely decisive moment and hence shouldn't be overseen.
I remember young me struggling with Flannery’s Torkoal, Norman, and the Elite 4 (I never beat it sadly). I remember playing this sweet game (my first mainline Pokémon game) at my grandma’s house at lot lol ❤
One reason why this track is so wonderful is because instead of sounding like a scary boss battle, it sounds like a duel between equals. It may be hard to remember from a player's perspective, but your character is one of the few trainers in the Hoenn Region who's good enough to taken on their Pokemon League -- And win.
Roxxane- Doble kick spam Brawly- mah good taillow Wattson- Moar double kik spam Flannery- oh boi Norman- Sum double kik spam 4 u Winona- help me... Tate and Liza- H E L P M E Wallace- not actually hard edit: oh boy, this is OLD

I have tears right now
Sapphire my very first pokemon game
Likes Begger same
Dark DeathFire 😂
no u dont
Yes yes !
Crystal was my first & sapphire was my second :) Now I have Sword as my third.
I remember Winona's peliper use protect over and over again
Gen 2: We allow more expansive gameplay, as well as a post game campaign which allows you to travel to the Kanto region, thus giving you two games in one
Hoenn: Welcome to Heonn, land of trumpets and water.
For Me TBH gen 3 was more fun (I'm talkin bout Emerald) than HG/SS(I PLAYED THE WHOLE GAME AND FELT IT IDK BORIN LIKE TOO MANY THINGS TO DO)
Trumpets, water and waifus. A school teacher, a charbroiled cinnamon roll, a woman as elegant as a bird, an Alolan dancer, a robo-waifu, a pirate, a dragon successor, an idol... or a 12-year-old trainer. Lots of choices.
BEST THEME.
jisoochrist AGREED!!
Fax
Gen 5 fans can stay mad and seethe
Gen 3 is THE GOAT
Man, Roxanne was skinnier than I remember
And Flannery... And Winona
And Wallace
That’s a dude...
@@yellow6572
But he has no dick
Roxanne was always THINNN
Wtf Norman looks like Seth MacFarlane!!
Norman:I like Family Guy
xD
Holy shit?????!!!!!!!
Hey Lois remember when I used to beat kids with my overpowered gorilla?
No doubt intentional, but Norman looks the most basic compared to the others.
Looks kinda Nolan north tbh😂
Geez, that Kingdra... Double team, rest, AND chesto berry.
Number 2 reason why im not gonna play emerald.
Use rayquaza, one hit with outrage, problem solved
RSE had, by far, the best soundtrack of any Pokemon game.
110% agree. And this Gym Leader song is my favorite track in the entire series (yes, even better than every Champion theme, including Cynthia's).
i think Diamond/Pearl/Platinum had better soundtrack.
+Geki I agree, D/P was by far the better game in terms of sound tracks. I personally believe D/P were the better games anyways...
I agree that RSE had a better soundtrack. That could just be me as a fan talking since Hoenn is my favorite region. But hey.We all have different opinions.
Killer Memestar xx
RZE - Trumpets.
DPPL - Piano.
BW/BW2 - Tecno.
XY - Electro.
SM - Electro+Tecno
You are a genius Junichi!
Sw/Sh: Crowds.
I love Pokémon zapphire
Sw/Sh seems to have a complete EDM vibe, at least the gym leader theme.
Red blue gold silver: Game Boy
No
X and Y is rock
Hoenn still has and has always had the best ost 🔥🔥🔥👌🏻👌🏻
It was straight fire.
I love it but for me Johtto and kanto takes it
YES THAT IS A FACT
IT'S EVEN BETTER THAN GEN 5
Am I the only one who noticed that the Hoenn Gym leaders names almost matches their type they specializes in?
ROXanne - rock
BRAWley- fighting
WATTson- Electric
FLAnnery- fire
WINonna- Flying
Liza & Tate- not really a close type match up here
WAllace- Water
Pretty interesting
Well, most of the Gym leader names were puns, even moreso in Japanese versions. bROCK, Mist-y (her Japanese name - Kasumi - is literally "mist"), Lt. Surge (as in "electrical surge"), Falkner (sound close to "Falconer"), Chuck (as in "throw" or pair of 'chuck), Clair (Dragon Lair - in Japanese, it's "ibuki", breat - as in "dragon's breath")... pretty much every one of those names is a pun.
Kendrick Barnes
Norman - Normal
Liza & Tate
Liza N' Tate
Lizatate
Levitate
Congratulations, you are really, REALLY slow to the party! What if I told you that every gym leader ever has a pun name lmao, some of them they straight up didn't even try to hide it
This game brings one of the most attractive gym leaders
Winona? Flannery (even though she's like sixteen?) Wallace? Brawly? Which is it?
Juan, god damn sexy beast styling on people with his Kingdra and shit.
Pron addict detected
Opinion discarded
I love this song...heard it so many times as a kid...coolest gen by far
The greatest theme in all of Pokemon. Even the remakes couldn't do it justice! :D
Royal Crustle Mixing them both together makes this theme even better...
Galar: ima end this mans whole carreer
This epic was my first pokemon game.
This theme is just too good, probably the best gym theme of all time next to gen 1, it's just the type of theme to get you hyped for a gym battle!
Roxanne: Nooooo!!! you can't just get 2 super effective in one move thats not fair!!!!!
Brendan: Haha! Combusken use Double kick pow!! pow!!
Fair enough
@@apersononyoutube8876 yeah
Bullet Seed:
@@latifolia1299 oh i never thought of that
"Noo you can't just get several super effective in one move that's just not fair !!!"
*HAHA BULLET SEED GO PEW PEW*
Gosh dang it, Dad! Why’d you have to come on screen? I was looking at Flannery!
Tch...
XD
She has two female Pokémon with Meromero, making her better than Akane where she only has one.
This song gives me PTSD.
I had a lot of trouble with Hoenn Gym Leaders back in RSE lmao
My favorite gym leader theme of all the gens. Truly epic
3世代は文句無しの神作
ポケモンもストーリーもBGMにおいても最高傑作
Hoenn es la razon porque las Trompas son mi instrumento favorito
*can't unhear Facade*
By far the best Gym Leader battle theme of any gen.
I can't hear the beginning of this song without hearing the pokeballs stack up
Norman: slaking i choose you! (pillar men theme played)
No other pokemon song has ever made me feel as emotional as this one. I love gen 3 so much.
Tate and Liza in Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire: 😂😂
Tate and Liza in Pokémon Emerald: 💀💀
RS: Two Pokémon with dual typing.
E: Four Pokémon with dual typing.
This is actually my favourite gym leader theme.
Making Flannery the thumbnail.. very smart lol
Starts of strong with fanfare-like horns, epic rhythm, and the fucking buildup section gives me chills
I relied too much on Swampert, and Solrock's Solar Beam taught me that...
It's been years and years but I still love Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald's music the best.
1:01 Love that bit
Yeah, me too. Oh wait, you were talking about the music?
@@asmodeus58XX What else could it be XD 😂
@@davesteven7589-f8g Looking at a certain hot girl.
Altaria: i fear no man
But that ice beam?
*it scares me*
I guarantee you; even with ice beam, your victory in that battle really REALLY depends on your luck in that battle and your luck with Pokemon natures, if you are playing on set mode. This is because a +2 crit earthquake destroys everything at that point, and while not everyone plays around them (certainly not me), crit at that point is an extremely decisive moment and hence shouldn't be overseen.
0:49 is ALWAYS when the gym leader used a potion.
FAXXX
Flannery is sexy AF
@@guffman456 Nah I prefer old Flannery
Mommy gf
@@slayer3091 Cool big sis gf more like.
hot 🔥🔥🔥
Very true
God damn this hits home so hard
Like childhood in chiptune
I remember young me struggling with Flannery’s Torkoal, Norman, and the Elite 4 (I never beat it sadly). I remember playing this sweet game (my first mainline Pokémon game) at my grandma’s house at lot lol ❤
Nothing beats the original
this song still gives me chills lol
In the minute 1:38 its my favorite part of the theme music its very good
IKR! that part is cool
*potion noises*
[Gym Leader] uses full restore.
got damn it!
2 years and only 6 dislikes.. this shows the beauty of gen 3
6 years and 0 dislikes, incredible
me see's Flannery...
Norman immediately pops up with his hand up to stop me.
thank you Dad.
The whole track is so damn intense, i love it.
THIS. This is the music where I can't beat the gym leader when I was kid...
This track is awesome gives chills 🔥🔥🔥 Congrats to game freak for the awesome remake in alpha sapphire and ruby omega 👌🏻👌🏻
Winona looks like she's seen something horrifying
@Marlin Alarcon she felt the wrath of slakings facade and didn't have protect
Norman was cool seeing actually how you battled your parent. Brawly seemed chill, but Flannery is my favorite because I like fire types.
One reason why this track is so wonderful is because instead of sounding like a scary boss battle, it sounds like a duel between equals. It may be hard to remember from a player's perspective, but your character is one of the few trainers in the Hoenn Region who's good enough to taken on their Pokemon League -- And win.
Roxxane- Doble kick spam
Brawly- mah good taillow
Wattson- Moar double kik spam
Flannery- oh boi
Norman- Sum double kik spam 4 u
Winona- help me...
Tate and Liza- H E L P M E

Winona - level 51 Salamence go brrr

winona in rematch: oh god, barely squaked by lol
tate and liza rematch: **minecraft disc 13 while desperately using dark type moves**
My personal favorite Gym Battle music.
Same...this is better than the ORAS version right ?
Roxanne has very slim belly
No trumpet players were harmed in the creation of this masterpiece
Hands down the best gym leader theme❤
