    What a magic !
There's many songs Neil can play either electric or acoustic, and it's hard to tell what's the best version. But Cortez is really special. Whatever he plays it electric, or acoustic with the band, or solo acoustic... It's amazing. Always. And when Neil, Poncho, Billy and Ralphie reach this peculiar state of fusion, and the Horse appears and starts to fly high across the stars, then it gets cosmic !
Witnessing that during a live concert always gave me shivers. The Horse takes me on his back and I leave the ground...
I've never heard another band doing this special thing they do. A wonder.
The video is pretty fluffy, but who cares when we can listen to that music falling from above...

De retour du Mexique que j'ai visité avec un guide indien, je vais apprendre cette chanson.

Holy smokes, first time I've heard Cortez acoustically, delicate but still dangerous.

I just realized the connection between the "dancing across the water" lyric and the slow, lilting melody. Indeed, his galleons dipped up and down on the oocean waves, up and down like the rhythm of the tune before the slaughter of millions began, an extension of the Spanish Inquisition. Cortez abandoned the Spain of Torquemada, disgusted with the "liberals" like Torquemada who had the audacity to claim that those heathens who found Christ prior to being burned at the stake, the so-called "conversos", should be spared a fiery, flaming death.
