Nice. My mom was a WW2 war bride married all her years to my father. Thanks...for this story. Awesome. She was a reporter, a great momma and grandma of six grandkids. Hallelujah.
An enlightening segment of US history that has finally come to light; These women served the country only to have the country they served forget about them...and this is too often the case for so many people and groups from our country's past, selective recorded history...
Yes. We see these veterans in Airforce parade uniforms. But we must know, these are new sewn. During the war they hadnt no military uniforms. They HAD paramilitary uniforms, but sewn elsewhere. Im not sure whom paid for these uniforms; possibly even themselves. Or perhaps Cochrane sponsoring them - Cochranes husband was rich, even if Jackie Cochrane was a totally self made girl with a verry humble start.
Fun fact: WASP wasnt allowed to long flying over open waters... But there was an ATA group of female pilots, flying from Labrador over north Atlantic to Britain... They called themselves for group 99 or club 99. Some of the pilots in this ATA group were americans.
Fun fact: Cochrane used to refuse black women to join WASP... And hereby we get know, there WERE very qualified black female pilots. If Cochrande was rascist, or if she simply didnt wished more difficulties - female pilots got much flak, so she probably didnt wished extra difficulties because they had black female pilots... In USA there was segregation by law at that time, and especielly in its southern parts.
Our country is so proud of these women! Thankful too!
