I had the intake, Rinehart true dual exhaust, Woods 555 cams and a tuner my mechanic recommended (can't remember the brand) added to my 2010 FLHTC with the TC96 and it became a totally awesome machine. It put a smile on my face that wouldn't go away.
Took my 96ci to a 107ci via fuelmoto (supplied my own ez start chris rivas 585ce cams) with stock heads (looking for torque not really chasing hp numbers) and a 2-1 v&h pro pipe with fp3. Low brow customs hand shifter and this beast is mine! 112t 116hp thanks for urging me semi consistently to upgrade. 105k miles and stock tensioner shoes were toast. Stay safe man!
My 2007 96" Dyna FXD makes 95.5 hp and 105 torque. Has a Feuling 543 cam and camchest kit, SuperTrapp Supermeg exhaust, and a K&N a/c. The heads are vented to the atmosphere. The rest of the engine is stock 96. Dynojet tuned with a Power Vision map. I get 47 mpg, mainly on the freeway. Love the cam. It's great for touring.
I just added fuel moto jackpot headed,, s&s GN mufflers, s&s cam plate, oil pump, 551c cams to include s&s lifters and quickie pushrods to my 2011 flhx 96” love the improvements like a new motor
I have a 96ci and love it, it makes great enough power for me with ac, fuel tuner and pipes. I mean in the past i might add a cam but theres just really no point i can go plenty fast with it already
That's my take on these new bikes. You can't get out of 2nd gear half the time and over the speed limit in a blip of the throttle while Mr Popo is out for your ass 24/7.
I'm an 88" guy if I get another bike I would absolutely get a 96" the 103 ho is a beast, but I'm an odd guy, I like small displacement and large power . I know most times you sacrifice reliability for performance, but I've found when it comes to the Harley V-Twin as long as you stay in the 1.25 HP per cubic inch you don't see a lot of reliability issues. Provided you do the math and get a good set up of, heads , cams, and tuning. The cams and heads are the most important part of the build for power. No replacement for displacement but damn if it ain't fun to try to do 😂
I'm 1 year into my 96" roadking. So far I've put in a screaming eagle air cleaner, a S&S true dual header pipe with slip on fishtails, the dyno jet power vision, screaming eagle compensator and manual chain adjuster, progressive suspension front and back, lastly a barnett clutch plate. Every add on made a big difference, next up S&S cam kit with cam plate. Love the motor.
I can give you some advice.! Check out southern Oregon hot bikes primary chain tensioner! And get rid of that manual .! And check out T Man performance for your cams .!
Went w/S&S 551 easy starts, Rush 2 to 1(used), Arlen Ness big sucker w/ a tune. Did a valve job, rings& light cyl. hone. Stock heads. Had already changed out the stock compensator w/a screaming eagle. Went bad @ 36,000. Upgraded to a high volume oil pump when cams went in. Dyno results were 100 HP & 99 ft. lbs. torque. 08 Ultra Classic. 66,000 currently. Enough change for me. Keep up the videos! Good info & tips. Enjoy them. Keep them coming!
07 dyna approaching 30k, baffled slip-ons.......about half loud......thinking about better baffles.......just got totally stock 07 Night Rod, so quiet and fast
I think 95 to 103 cubic inches is plenty of displacement! If you want more power focus on other things, cams, heads, pistons, etc. rather than in just upping displacement. I remember when the 96 inch motor first came out, and people were thinking it would be a substantial power increase over the 88, which ended up not being the case. About a 5 hp increase, and 8 to 10 ft lbs of torque. The 96 inch twin cam has some good potential it just needs woke up, get the right cam in, get it breathing good, and a good tune it will make a world of difference. If you make the right upgrades, and take good care of them, the Twin Cams are actually some good motors.
09 Dyna stock 96" with woods TW 222 , bike runs amazing , miles of smiles , woods 222 has a lift of .555 , giant difference from stock .474 , no need to break the bank to get real power you can feel.
I have a 08 Dina 10/1 comp two into one Exaust S&S oil pump and plate 222 woods cam open air cleaner vance and hinze tuner 3. Runs strong. Already getting ready for more upgrades for my winter project. Stabilizer’s front and rear water cooled heads 107 with 10/5 comp. Aluminum box on rear instead of steal box
I have a 09 Night Train with V&H pipes. It pulls and haven't lost a race yet, even against 114's with stage 4 kits, true story. I guess weighing only 147 lbs helps. Love the bike.
My 06 night train 5000 miles Is a Beast. Lowered custom Harley stretch tank harley painted..bigger crome forks looks like the poster for 06 night train but red flames any buyers?
@@GixxerFoo Thanks. Yes it is, even with stock heads. The bike also has the S&S Flywheel, the stock Flywheel failed the binding test. Basicly the bike has a new engine. The bike also has D&D Fatcats and a SE Chisel Highflow Air Cleaner. The S&S kit came with 585C easy start cams TTS tuner. Dyno Tuned to 108 Torque and 103 HP. It is a dream to ride. If anyone wants a bike with great potintial, the 96 ci is a good starting point.
I've stated before on my 02 88 cubic inch boarded as far as it goes compression releases went to the straight gear drive cam chest oil pump fueling 574 cams 10 and 1/2 to one compression and I love it it's a rocket ship it's more than I need for the way I ride but you always dream of having more my advice is go on and go to the 107 and get what you can out of it because if you don't you will want more later but I love the twin cam
107's really make some impressive power when you add high compression and a big cam, going even further with heads you can get horsepower up there close to 120 or more.
@@GixxerFoo yep as I said if you're going to do it get all you can get because even though I've got more than I I need more than I use cuz for some reason my bikes are small rocket ship I mean it really does run good and it's not a big build but you always want more you know don't need any more but you want more lol
2016 Dyna 103ci Shaved heads and port matched for 10.6:1 compression. Running a Woods TW-555 dyno tuned @ 100hp/115tq. Bike pulls like a freight train from 2500-5500 rpm’s
thats some great numbers from a 106 thats better numbers than my new 114 road motor makes, a friend of mine, has his 96 motor with a cam and new cylinder heads, leaving new 114's behind him , says it confuses the guys with a new 114 motor that doesnt have a stage 2 put in yet. they just cant believe the power he makes, so this is great info, especially with all older bikes on the market
The only Twin Cam I would even consider would be a fairly low mile '02 and earlier carbureted non balanced 88 with the Timken bearing (almost certainly a Dyna) I don't ride hard, I don't ride fast, I just like to cruise, feel those wonderful vibrations and listen to that beautiful exhaust note. I wouldn't make any modifications to it other than an exhaust system if it didn't already have one I liked, tune the carburetor for the exhaust if necessary, and add some more chrome. Aside from their feel and sound, IMO anyway, chrome is what Harleys are all about.
Right on, man. I have an '02 FXDL w/ CV carb, (FI was an additional option that year, for extra $$$ of course), 16K on it. Bought it brand new in '02, and then got busy with work/life. Stage 1 with V&H Big Shots. Time to get it back on the road.
My 96 really benefitted from a free flow air cleaner, V&V short Shots with quiet baffle (for some added back pressure?) S&S easy start 583 cams and a remap on a rolling road. It pulls hard, so much so the clutch slipped in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. I fitted the Barnett 9 plate clutch and a higher rate pressure plate. I've got a Popeye left arm now but the bike performance is enough for me (for now anyway). Lots of future options to consider.
Just picked up a 2011 EGUC with 4000 original miles on it bone stock. It hasnt been started in 7 years so i am in the process of cleaning out the tank and replacing the fuel pump assembly. Thanks for the great videos. This gives me some inspiration. The 107 kit with woods cams sounds like the way to go. I will probably get the heads milled and polished and ported while its apart too. I will be upgrading to Ohlins suspension front and rear first though.
Keep an eye on your gaskets bro, if I heard any unnatural noise I'd take her down and go with new bearings, gaskets, etc. Shouldnt have to split the cases hopefully, but the top end, I'd definently keep a close eye on her, good luck friend. Just bought a 1980 80ci Shovel powered Super Glide, chain drive, I'm taking her down for a through and through cleaning, new bearings, gaskets, etc. She hasn't run in about 15 years, but I hope to put her on the road in the spring.
I'm 68 and original owner of a 09 Fat Bob , 32k. I started with a SE Heavy breather, Magna Flow 2x2 ex,FP3, runs great and has been the most reliable bike I've had (had my share).my other additions focused mainly on known weak points. Replaced CC tensioners, added Feuling oil pump, adj push rods, 2 inch tank lift, Accell Stealth coils (hotter spark and removal of coil and wires), BDL 2" belt drive (compensator and terrific Barnett clutch upgrade), external breather system (mounted catch can where stock coil was). So, cams? Maybe for my b'day....
My 96 is bone stock. 2010 Ultra. 23,000 miles. Previous owner bought it as a retirement gift to himself and toured Europe in it quite a bit. I've had it a few months and I'm contemplating changes to help it last more so than make it faster. Focus on cooling and full-compliment cam bearings etc. I like that a Harley is a forever bike. You can build and rebuild them indefinitely. No reason why it shouldn't outlast me.
If you're just looking at going with a bolt in cam and keeping stock compression head work in my opinion is going to cost more than what small gains you might see. With the exhaust setup you have just a nice bolt in cam would do whole lot for the money!
Hehe...2010 Heritage Classic 96" on six speed. She's BONE stock, not even stage 1 with about 60k on the clock. She's getting a makeover...that 107 bore and Wood 555s sound like just the ticket...although it'll got out a true dual setup. Thanks for the great info!
2008 FLHT 91000 miles engine bone stock including pipes. Just took it to Maine last Oct. When I ask it to delivered it did! 4000 mile round trip. I live in TN. Does not smoke never added oil between oil changes. Always ride 2up. Am I riding a time bomb? Never been hard on it but when we go we go. Bought it new and I'm almost 63.
GIXXER, question: I've been following your channel since I owned a fully built High Comp 140hp 120R. I now have a basically stock besides cams and cam plate 88" 2005 Twin Cam (carbuerated). I have a found a company that makes a 131 monster bore kit that of course requires a bit of working. What's your opinion on this? I will drop the link for you below. Thanks, Nic. Your advice, knowledge, and obviously high intelligence is interesting and provides very thoughtful insight.
Thank you, l appreciate it! That's a lot of motor for a street bike lol. It's a risk with anything that high of performance but built right they can be reliable. I'd say it would be a great hot rod to terrorize the town with!
I just picked up a 2011 FatBob 96ci bone stock. Just added some Freedom Slip-Ons for now to get the sound up. Focusing on the cosmetic changes first then will do full stage 1 & stage 2 with tune 👍
For me personally, the Feuling 525 reaper cam ia the best bang for your buck in the 96, smooth pull not noisey and no flat spots got them in both of my 96s.
I have a 2009 Road King with S&S 551, oil pump and plate. Also many other upgrades around the bike. I never had the need to buy a newer bike. Had a 2007 ultra classic before and never had a single issue with either bike.
Bought my 2011 FLSTN at the end of the model year. Only 'mods' I made were a Vance & Hines true duals and an aftermarket ECU. It's not a Drag Bike, and I never envisioned it as one. My other bike is a 2005 Ducati 999 (purchased not quite new), which scares the living F*CK out of me on track! My Harley will never attain over 165 MPH! That being said, I like being pushed back into the seat and the raw sound of a Harley! I think new cylinders would be a good thing. @GixxerFoo, thanks SO much for all the relevant content!
On another one of your videos I said I was installing the 555's. Bobby Wood recommended that I put the 222's into my FLSTC. I can't wait to try them out. Snowed yesterday.
My 08 fxstc was bone stock when I bought it. Now I'm running v&h straight shot slip ons, arlen ness big sucker, and a fp3 tuner..... Definitely woke it up, but would love to add a decent set of cams.
Awesome post , bought a 2008 fat bob with a 96 , and it only has 9000 miles on it. just has screaming eagle slip ons, but don't have an air filter kit yet . First harley for me and plan on keeping this one for awhile .
The beauty of a Harley is that you only need one, if you like the bike there is everything out there to keep it as long as you like. Congratulations on your first Harley, that's a big deal honestly. Get you a good flash tuner and air cleaner, it will make a world of difference 👍.
I was on board. Got a 96 in my 09’ softail deluxe and she’s a beautiful gal. Stage one. But I’m to drunk to follow. Gonna need to get back with you later.
Gday mate, Greetings from Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺 👍 i'm a fan of your youtube channel and appreciate all of your insight and advice. I'm just wanting to know what you'd suggest as far as a cam selection for my '07 (96") FXDWG... i currently just have a hi-flo filter, 2-1 supertrapp (18 discs & open end cap) and dyno tuned to suit... a friend has given me a set of 103" cylinders & heads. The heads have manual compression releases installed already. I'm saving up for the Fueling cam plate & Oil Pump, inner cam bearings, hydraulic lifters, gaskets, cams & pistons. What cams would u recommend for my planned setup and what compression pistons to suit?? I'm looking for more bottom-mid end torque as a majority of my riding is around town... your recommendations and advice would be much appreciated mate 👍 Thanks
So I have an '04, 88" twin-cam-B that I had the dealership install a HD 96" kit and tune, cam, oil pump, etc. a few years ago. Is there a jug/piston upgrade that will work for that? After the 96" kit the dyno for HP&TQ was in the mid 90's. I have also installed some DK Custom toys (Check them out on TH-cam) and there is a noticeable if not dramatic improvement in HP&TQ. If both are not over 100, they are scaring the hell out of it.
I have a 2006 Nighttrain carb 88 I change cams and carb and exhaust and it will leave my boys 103 it makes him so mad and he buddy has a 103 cam charge and I can leave him behind me
Turbos make some great power and to me they are a lot less invasive to install. You're going to spend 5K either way with a turbo alone or getting deep into the engine to make the same power.
Well done. I have a 2013 Electra Glide Classic and a 93 Electra Glide Sport. My 93 is a dog but it's super reliable. The 2013 is a 103 and seems to have awesome power(at least for me). Problem is since I bought them both used, I don't know what's been done. Love to see what they do on a Dyno. (I'm just babbling so I can comment for you)
Thanks for sharing! If you don't get any receipts or run the Vin and see if the work was done at the dealer you're left with a tear down and measuring it out!
As long as you're using a cam designed to be bolt in you don't have to worry about valve springs. But if you choose to go with a high lift cam that's when you'll get into needing some valve springs.
I should do this to my 2014 street glide 103 Just have a stage one now. Looking for some more power. I can’t believe just a set of 10.5 to 1 pistons and a cam can get me up to 117 fps torque. That’s exactly what I’m looking for
Compression and cams really goes a long way on those motors, torque is pretty easy to make but the big horsepower comes in if you really get into the motor.
I have a 2018 Street Glide Special M8 107 with Harley's torque cam, Ventilator air cleaner, V&H Power Dual header and High Output mufflers. The dealer tuned it with Harley's Street Tuner. The numbers are nowhere near the numbers you're getting with a modified 96. They got 92 HP & 105 Torque. That said, the bike feels very fast to me but I've always questioned those numbers. Do you think I should be getting more from this setup? Great videos & THANKS!!!
Heeeheee! I had a Nightrain with the 96ci, went through MMI's Harley program, and while in school built my motor out to 107ci, polished and ported heads, went with Fueling cams, cam plate, hiflo oil pump, hydraulic tensioners, bearings, etc., if I remember correctly It was lil' over 110 hp, the top side of 120"lb of torque...it would lite the tire up in 3rd without the use of the clutch, which I changed out too, shortly after finding that the stock clutch didn't handle the extra torque so well after that it was just right to me...then 6 months later a nice lil ole lady hit me in the ass sitting at a red light, totaled the bike and the insurance company ended up not letting me purchase the bike back, so I'm sure it was a nice surprise to whoever tore into the motor, or it was crushed😭
Coming from a mostly stock '79 80 Shovelhead to an '09 96 TC with a full Stage 1 has been amazing enough! However, I do think I'll be saving my pennies for a 107 kit from Fuel Moto. :-)
Is it worth the little bit of extra cash to upgrade a 96ci to a 107? Or should I just go with the cams? Want to remain decently reliable, but add more power.
Hello, We got a 12 piece gear set from V-twin, main shaft & countershaft included. Price was $200 vs the Andrews $800 set. What do you think of the lower price V-twin set? Have any input on these gears good or bad? We don't race and rarely run hard. Thank you!
The Vtwin products are foreign made but if you're just cruising they do pretty well. If you're doing a high power build l would go Andrews hands down. But just for cruising with good fluids and keep up on the maintenance no issues.
I picked up a 2010 Fat Bob nice deal but it has a Roland Sands air cleaner on it and I can't reach the brake pedal so I obviously have to replace it with the stock air cleaner but I'm thinking Screamin Eagle plugs n wires and air cleaner it has slip ons with 2-2 exaust
Those dyna Fat Bobs with the earlier seat are quite a reach to the forward controls. Lol l can't reach the pegs comfortably on them either. Good air cleaner but no doubt makes it a reach. The plug wires from SE are ab awesome inexpensive upgrade, one of the first things l do.
@@GixxerFoo My 2010 Street Glide had the old compensator when I purchased the bike new in June of 2010. I upgraded to the SE. Then, after my mods last year I switched to the Darkhorse Man O War. So far so good.
Not a HD guy, but I'm shopping for a sportster to add to my thusfar sportbike only life. How can people like hammer get so much power from 1275 kit for the Evo engine? I don't know Harley motors that well, but it seems like you can build a mean Evo powered sportster pretty cheap. Is the Evo a better motor for hot rodding than the twin cam then?
I personally ride Sportsters myself for their reliability especially when you start putting some power in them. A Sportster with a 1275 kit, 10.5:1 compression, cams and a good pipe will lay down over 100 horse pretty easily. Especially the late models 04 and newer they have really good factory heads on them, 03 and earlier need head work. But Hammer can really hook you up with anything you need, just tell them how far you want to go.
I have, what I believe is a stock 2007 Electra Glide Classic. I put on some Big Louie slip-ons. My plan is to do the Fuel Moto 110 big bore, but I want a big lazy big block. I have no desire to be riding a high strung race engine. I want a Clydesdale not an Arabian lol. What cam would keep the ridability of the 96, with some more jam?
My buddies kid has a hot 96 Evo and I have an S&S LC124 and I don’t beat him by much in a race. I’ve probably got 100lbs on him though with bike and myself. Impressive nonetheless
The 07 ‘s 96 has weak crank bearing on sprocket side according to nightrider . Personally I like 2-2 exhaust with crossover pipe. Thanks for all your research . Wow some big numbers - ✊🏻👍👌 was cold out there but managed a short putt today around town . 🥶 on the 96 “- 😁
Lucky, we have had sleet and freezing rain here the past three days. That's one thing that keeps me off the road. Yeah the early 96 had a few bugs, crank bearing being one of them. They carried over things from the 88 and it didn't work out.
@@GixxerFoo yeah same here ; frozen pellets and cold air . The 2007 96” had injected system closed loop I believe and run 14:7 to 1 exhaust runs hot . Poor throttle response. Recommend different injectors and fuel controller . Always sumthin - 😁 ✊🏻👍👌
Hi Gixxer, Could you please do a video on newly assembled engine. How to break it in. We just installed S&S 110 big bore in 07 Heritage 96 Ci and I am very confused because I have been told the following: Don't ride at steady speed, don't let rpm rise too much, no lugging, no reving the throttle, don't heat up the engine, don't get in 3rd or 4th gear etc. With Los Angeles traffic, it is very hard to do all of the above. For first 50 miles, I have done 16 miles and it has confused the heck out of my brain. Please advice something simple to follow.
It's hard to beat the thunder header, it's loud though. D&D Fat Cat is another good one, Fuel Moto has some really nice power producing house brand exhaust too.
Holy shit the Fat Bob at 6:39 is the EXACT BIKE I have same color too same air cleaner except K&N and slip ons Hahah. Getting the 2bros racing 2into 1 in Jan. Can’t wait. Ima do that 107 bore and get a cam as well
I know this is an old video, but, just bought an 09 fat bob 2 weeks ago with a 96. 2900 miles with high flow intake and a magnaflow 2 into 1 exhaust no tuner. I want to do a tuner and cam upgrade. Any suggestions?
Damn you got a hell of a bike with only 2900 miles! You have an exhaust and air cleaner with no tune though?! The bike has never been tuned? I would immediately get a DynoJet power vision and flash a tune for a 2 into 1 with high flow air cleaner. That will make a world of difference and fuel the engine the way it need to be for that setup. That will allow you room to add a cam later with the Power Vision. For a cam on the Dyna the Wood 255 is a nice setup and a good fit for the Dyna all around.
What would be a good woods cam only on top of stage one on a 2010 fatboy lo 96ci ? I was told woods tw666 cams but then also have heard others say other ones I have Vance and Hines 2-2 big radius pipes and Vance and Hines FP3 tuner currently only Also I have added man of war sprocket and a hot bikes tensioner
THANK YOU , YOU TRULY GO INTO DETAIL. I BOUGHT A 2010 ELEC. GLIDE ULTRA, 96 WITH 5 K MILES ON IT. SAW AN ADD ON E BAY WHEREBY SOMEONE TAKES YOUR HEADERS REMOVES THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER , BORES OUT STOCK HD SLASH DOWNS TO STAGE 3 , 4 BEING OPEN PIPES. HIS CUSTOMERS DYNO'D THE SAME BIKE BOOSTING IT TO 14 HP. IT PUT ME IN MY SEAT BIG BIG DIFFERENCE. I INSTALLED A SCREAMING EAGLE AIR INDUCTION KIT/ KN CLAIMS 14 HP. I AM AT 28 HP INCREASE SO I FIGURE 98 HP EST. IT ROCKS WITHOUT THE CAM. QUESTION. I'VE BEEN CROSS COUNTRY TWICE ON THIS BIKE ONCE ON ANOTHER ULTRA. I NOW HAVE 65 K ON BIKE UP FOR SALE. IF I KEEP IT AND ADD THE WOODS CAM YOU RECOMMEND I ASSUME THE HEADS AND PISTONS SHOULD BE DONE AS WELL. ?? IF I JUST ADD THE CAM RUN IT UNTIL IT BREAKS THEN DO THE HEADS???? I RUN RED LION OIL IN ALL 3 CASES AND I AM 77 YRS. OLD SO IT'S MY BABY:) I AM A BIKER FOR TRUMP WE WERE THERE AT INAUGURATION , SO THE BIKE IS A "TRUMP 45" BIKE WITH TRUMP COIN ON FUEL CAP. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT PRESERVED BY A COLLECTOR . MAKE ME AN OFFER. GOD BLESS.
Thanks for your reply on stock cam specs. How does fueling 8033 cam plate rate? Can they be rebuilt? great videos, looking forward to another video. My ride is 2010 FLHTK. THANKS
I went with a high compression 103 SE Race Kit with my '09 Road King. It dyno'd at 115HP and 115TQ. The FM 107 numbers with a Wood 555 @ 10.25 compression without head work are usually about 103-105HP and up to 120-ish TQ. My 103 Race Kit runs at 10.5:1 compression, but I'm not sure if the SE 259E cam is giving me the best out of the motor. If I could do it all over again, I may have gone with the FM 107 without headwork, because as you say "Harley's are all about TQ". If I was to swap out my 259E cam with something else, what would you recommend, GixxerFoo?
I've got a 2007 96 but I don't know what all has been done to it or how to find out. I know it has the exhaust done. One person said they think it has a big bore kit.
It's a long shot but you could have a Harley dealer look up the VIN. Just by chance if it was done at a dealer they may have the entire history of the work done. Otherwise you'd be tearing it down and doing some measuring to see exactly what's in there.
Right on, those are some fun bikes. I really like the Street Bob, just not the spoke wheels but that's just my personal preference. I was glad to see some mags on the new on this year, less maintenance without having to keep the wheel true and tight.
@@GixxerFoo I'm right there with you on the spokes. I am actually planning to get some of the mags from the new Street Bob for this bike. I just have a low mileage 1997 Dyna that needs a little TLC first.
I have a 07 fatboy and I'm totally pleased with the way it runs it has rush shorty's on without baffles but does have the cylinder cones. I'm looking for the low rpm cackle most of the 96 ci bikes I hear with that is running V&H Big radious pipes. Now mine I believe has a different air cleaner but looks all stock. Any ideas of how to get this sound. I have a video I'll try to link here so you can hear it. Thanks in advance BTW the video is only a minute long. I'll attach it in the next message
It wouldn't be a bad idea in the long run, especially when the bike is hot. There are some compression releases you can install with the spark plug. You have to buy longer plugs with those kits and only use those longer plugs with the compression releases. Save you some money on machine work, but if you have a later 103 like 2014 or later it should have automatic compression releases.
This is good info. I am considering this with my 09 FLHTCU. However, I am hearing you should have the crank welded and trued once you start inching close and above the century mark in HP and TQ. Is this true?
It's not a bad idea to have that done with the pressed cranks. But on the flip side I would argue the pressed cranks aren't all bad, you just have to be mindful of how you ride the bike. Main thing is do not lug the engine, that will absolutely scissor a crank in a hurry. If you keep the rpms up and don't let the engine lug you're good to go.
I had the intake, Rinehart true dual exhaust, Woods 555 cams and a tuner my mechanic recommended (can't remember the brand) added to my 2010 FLHTC with the TC96 and it became a totally awesome machine. It put a smile on my face that wouldn't go away.
Yup same setup pulls good
I went with Woods 222, V@H Pro pipe and Intake, Powervision tune. Love this bike. Still rumbles like a HD should
Took my 96ci to a 107ci via fuelmoto (supplied my own ez start chris rivas 585ce cams) with stock heads (looking for torque not really chasing hp numbers) and a 2-1 v&h pro pipe with fp3. Low brow customs hand shifter and this beast is mine! 112t 116hp thanks for urging me semi consistently to upgrade. 105k miles and stock tensioner shoes were toast. Stay safe man!
Sitting here…listening…not understanding, but nodding and smiling…love my stock 09 Dyna Lowrider.
Low Rider is one of my favorite models!
04 FXDLI FTW!
You are doing God's work. I remember you at 2k subscribers. You deserve all this and more man. Keep it up Gixxer!!
They run really well especially after you let them breathe a little bit with a good exhaust and air cleaner!
Mine also iam very happy with this 96 V Twin, and no upgrades at all 👍🤓
Me too 07fxdbi.44.ooomiles.air.pipes.cobar tuner.30 miles agallon
Harley isn't dumb. They love to sell aftermarket OEM components. Why haven't they sold a 110 kit for the twin cam 96(as an example)
That's my take on these new bikes. You can't get out of 2nd gear half the time and over the speed limit in a blip of the throttle while Mr Popo is out for your ass 24/7.
I have an 88 with cams, works fine.
I guess I'm lucky to have a 2008 stock 96". Just has slip ons and 34k on the odometer. Love riding it!!
07 dyna approaching 30k, baffled slip-ons.......about half loud......thinking about better baffles.......just got totally stock 07 Night Rod, so quiet and fast
Bought a bone stock 2012 96” FXDC last year with 11,000 miles for 9k 😎 I guess I got lucky
74k for me, still runs great. Had esp on it and dealer replaced trans at about 64k. Compensator was upgraded also.
I have a 09. With the 96 ! I really like it .
A good cam swap is the best money you'll ever spend on Harley!
What tune would you recommend for the 222 cam? Is there a specific plug and play tuner or would a custom tune be required?
Those Night Trains are really popular and hard to find, I would hang onto that one for sure!
@@GixxerFoo
There's a reason my 07 ain't for sale. It might end up a 110 though.
What did you do on your bike ? I have the same and she doesn’t pull enough right now
My 06 night train 5000 miles Is a Beast. Lowered custom Harley stretch tank harley painted..bigger crome forks looks like the poster for 06 night train but red flames any buyers?
What rpm do I shift at for best performance with stock cams on a 96 engine? Edit just a muffler and stage1 tune
This is real news unlike that other video lol
I have a 96ci and I haven't done a thing to it yet besides some slip-ons. This was very helpful. Thanks
I got a 2009 FLHTCU that started out as a 96. Got a S&S 106 Big bore kit. I love it.
Very nice! That's a night and day difference!
You can do quite a bit with a twin cam, even with that two valve head they can really run!
Those early twin cams with the timken lower are awesome, just get that tensioner system updated to a hydraulic and you're good to go.
Great advice Thank you so much! I learned a lot. I have a bone stockb96 ci Road King. You have given me much to think about. Thanks again!
I love it! The Dyna version of the Fat Bob has always been a favorite of mine, one the best handling Harleys out there anywhere.
I have a 96. Added a high flow filter, 2 into 1 Bassani exhaust and mapping. Works super nice, and wondering what head work and cam might do for it
If you're just looking at going with a bolt in cam and keeping stock compression head work in my opinion is going to cost more than what small gains you might see. With the exhaust setup you have just a nice bolt in cam would do whole lot for the money!
My 2007 Ultra 96 has full Rhinehart exhaust & a tuner already on it. You've given me some options, thank you.
That's awesome to hear! There's a lot of different directions you can go but with the exhaust and tuner you've got a good start.
Right on, it will be like a whole new bike!
Great video as always. Would love to see a video on a 103 and how far you can go with it.
You can get way out there with a 103 and 96, they are basically the same engine with just different bore sizes.
I had a superglide with a 96" motor and 6 speed. It had plenty enough power for getting me down the road.
Not at all if it's running good and just keeps going like that I'd be hard pressed to tear into it.
I’ve watched all your videos watched this one 3 times lol
Got a bone stock 96 FLHX with the exception of V&H Slash slip on’s. I really want to do a cam swap and tuner but do NOT know where to start
Thanks for taking about the 96 V Tween nobody talks about the 96 V Tween tha k you.
Your welcome, they really are basically the same as the 103 just with smaller bore.
@GixxerFoo, thanks SO much for all the relevant content!
i have a 03 FLHRCI 95ci mild cammed andrews G37 hand ported heads 9.5:1 compression S&S spo mufflers SE air filter. 100hp 107lbft
That's really good power and very reliable too with that setup!
On another one of your videos I said I was installing the 555's. Bobby Wood recommended that I put the 222's into my FLSTC. I can't wait to try them out. Snowed yesterday.
WOODS CAMS are the BOMB🙏
Nice bro...I gotta flstc 2011 and I'm going to be trying the wood cams as well 🤟😆
222 is great cam for a heavy bike, softail it's a toss up on the 555 or 222. But Dyna 555 for sure all the way, touring bikes 222 for sure!
@@GixxerFoo My FLSTC is 1,000 pounds with me on it. Seems heavy to me...LOL!
My Twin Cam 96 has stage One and Vance and H two into one Pro pipe. It's all I need at the moment. 56 K miles
They will run for a very long time with just that done to them, 56k is just broke in!
Awesome I just got a 06 road king with stage 2 on it good to know it has room to grow
I was on board. Got a 96 in my 09’ softail deluxe and she’s a beautiful gal. Stage one. But I’m to drunk to follow. Gonna need to get back with you later.
Lol all good!
I have a 07 stc with a 96. It has V&H, high flow air cleaner, stage 1. Would a Woods 555 be an easy and economical upgrade? R
Gday mate,
Greetings from Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺 👍 i'm a fan of your youtube channel and appreciate all of your insight and advice.
I'm looking for more bottom-mid end torque as a majority of my riding is around town... your recommendations and advice would be much appreciated mate 👍
Thanks
So I have an '04, 88" twin-cam-B that I had the dealership install a HD 96" kit and tune, cam, oil pump, etc. a few years ago.
Is there a jug/piston upgrade that will work for that? After the 96" kit the dyno for HP&TQ was in the mid 90's.
I have also installed some DK Custom toys (Check them out on TH-cam) and there is a noticeable if not dramatic improvement in HP&TQ. If both are not over 100, they are scaring the hell out of it.
I have a 2006 Nighttrain carb 88 I change cams and carb and exhaust and it will leave my boys 103 it makes him so mad and he buddy has a 103 cam charge and I can leave him behind me
Yup I have a stock "09"fxd I put set of short shots on it.....I was gonna trade in this spring....not now, I'm gonna try this formula
It's a lot cheaper than a new bike and you'll get that 100+ horsepower and closer to 120 torque.
I hate the 2 n 1 look but, power is power
Hi Gixxer Turbo works great on the 96 incl s&s 583 cam.
Excellent content, at what point when installing cams in a 88ci stock do I start thinking about springs
As long as you're using a cam designed to be bolt in you don't have to worry about valve springs. But if you choose to go with a high lift cam that's when you'll get into needing some valve springs.
I should do this to my 2014 street glide 103
Just have a stage one now.
Damn sorry about your built bike man, hope you were ok after she shunted you. Also hope you got good payout from her insurance!
Coming from a mostly stock '79 80 Shovelhead to an '09 96 TC with a full Stage 1 has been amazing enough! However, I do think I'll be saving my pennies for a 107 kit from Fuel Moto. :-)
Love my 2011 fxs blackline with the 96ci TC Not a problem so far but i have been thinking of wood tw222 cam upgrades Thanks for the video!
Wood 222 is just really hard to beat with the power it makes across the chart!
@@GixxerFoo thank you so much. Amazing response time! Thank you again!
QUESTION: Will the compensator in a 96" need to be upgraded to handle the increase in torque etc? Or should it be ok..
If it's a 07 to 09 l would upgrade the compensator, in 2010 the SE part became the OEM part.
Yes the stock comp won’t last much longer than 20K miles
I changed mine, Don't dremel it lol, its way better to just take it all off.
@@GixxerFoo My 2010 Street Glide had the old compensator when I purchased the bike new in June of 2010. I upgraded to the SE. Then, after my mods last year I switched to the Darkhorse Man O War. So far so good.
@@DiggervTV How many mile on the DH Comp do have now? How do you like it?
Would upgrading the compensator be something else needed because of the added horsepower?
I have, what I believe is a stock 2007 Electra Glide Classic. I put on some Big Louie slip-ons. My plan is to do the Fuel Moto 110 big bore, but I want a big lazy big block. I have no desire to be riding a high strung race engine. I want a Clydesdale not an Arabian lol. What cam would keep the ridability of the 96, with some more jam?
You'd be hard pressed to beat a Wood TW222, it's going to give you power all across the board and it won't be too wild.
I've been looking into Zippers 107 muscle kit for my 96". Hopefully next year after my warranty is up
My buddies kid has a hot 96 Evo and I have an S&S LC124 and I don’t beat him by much in a race. I’ve probably got 100lbs on him though with bike and myself. Impressive nonetheless
That's really impressive considering the displacement gap there, that 96 Evo has got to be built to the hilt to pull on that 124!
Hi Gixxer,
Could you please do a video on newly assembled engine. How to break it in.
We just installed S&S 110 big bore in 07 Heritage 96 Ci and I am very confused because I have been told the following:
Don't ride at steady speed, don't let rpm rise too much, no lugging, no reving the throttle, don't heat up the engine, don't get in 3rd or 4th gear etc. With Los Angeles traffic, it is very hard to do all of the above.
For first 50 miles, I have done 16 miles and it has confused the heck out of my brain. Please advice something simple to follow.
What is the brand of the 107 bore kit you mentioned was $600ish? S&S cost $1000. And what’s your recommended 2in1 exhaust?
It's hard to beat the thunder header, it's loud though. D&D Fat Cat is another good one, Fuel Moto has some really nice power producing house brand exhaust too.
Fuel Moto + Wood Cams = 😎🤓
They really like those cams over there cause they make the power with their kits!
Holy shit the Fat Bob at 6:39 is the EXACT BIKE I have same color too same air cleaner except K&N and slip ons Hahah. Getting the 2bros racing 2into 1 in Jan. Can’t wait. Ima do that 107 bore and get a cam as well
My 96 has a Rhinehart high flow air cleaner, VH big shot exhaust and VH tuner. Next is a cam, still figuring which one.
I was told woods tw666 cams but then also have heard others say other ones
I have Vance and Hines 2-2 big radius pipes and Vance and Hines FP3 tuner currently only
Also I have added man of war sprocket and a hot bikes tensioner
Had my 96 SG bumped to a 103 w/SE 255s. We can hang w/107s but definitely getting bored and looking to go up to 110 drop ins, with better cams
Great advice Gix
Thank you!
GOD BLESS.
It wouldn't be bad idea to get the top end done with a new cam and that kind of mileage.
I have an 88 that’s been updated to 100 with Andrew 550 cams and she eats bro. 110hp 120 torque.
i have a 1996 xl883c it has the 1283 factory kit and it has 4 cams 5 speed ..i love this bike
Thanks for your reply on stock cam specs. How does fueling 8033 cam plate rate? Can they be rebuilt? great videos, looking forward to another video. My ride is 2010 FLHTK. THANKS
I haven't ever seen one rebuilt before but they do last a very long time, one of the best products out there for the late models with pressed cranks.
Would go with a high compression 103 or go to a 107 with your Harley 96?
I'd go 107 and make sure it's streetable. High compression motors can run hot
107 and a cam and compression to fit your riding style.
Have a 09’ Heritage, Stock. Bought new from Route 66 in Tulsa. Need guidance on upgrades. Greetings from Oklahoma, Durant
I have 2011 blackline did 63k miles and the i think its time to upgrade it to stage4. I do feel lost 🙈from all the options in the market
06 night train all it needs is the 6 speed, what's your opinion?
I just bought a 2011 street bob with a stock 96 with 1500 miles. Totally factory until I put the slip ons.
Is there a specific year 103 cylinders to use? because I have an 07 SG just pipes and breather I’m looking for more power
Any 103 big bore kit will for the 96's and they are really simple to convert over!
Thanks for all the info!! Keep up the great work!!
Thank you, I appreciate the support!

Most generally that's a sound associated with the big radius exhaust and it's design.
@GixxerFoo thanks I appreciate you talking time to answer me. Thank again
If I do the 103 cylinders and 10:5-1 pistons do I have to do pressure relief valves?
The compensating sprockets on 96s were a problem.
They were through the 2009 model year, on the 2010 model year the SE compensator became the OEM part.
Hey thanks for the content brother...I gotta heritage softail and it's bone stock 96...I'm just looking at my options
keep an eye on your compensator, and make sure and change out the primary chain tensioner to a manual adjustment version
No problem 👍
I got a 96 in my road glide and put S&S 585 cams , 2 into 1 tbr shorty and air cleaner and power vision tuner. And ill tell you it rips
Hi, I'm thinking purchasing a HD 2004 Night Train. With only 21,000 miles on it. Should I be concerned about the cam chain adjuster?
