Love it Jeb! I’ve seen this video many times now and I just go back and keep watching it as the Korean Air 777-300ER is beautiful in that livery & even the cabin is okay. I also wish I could someday fly this fabulous airplane and Korean Air from Guam 🇬🇺 😊 Cheers 🥂 my friend Also at 3:56 that is a STUNNING PHOTO of the GE90-115B on that KAL 777-300ER at SUNSET over the Pacific Ocean I love it! 😍 Still one of THE BEST PHOTOS I’ve ever seen in my life or on your instagram. 😮
I absolutely love Guam and I agree, the lounge that was formerly Continental's is a lot better. I like the addition at the end but you could possibly add some from the origin as well.
The planes that Korean Airlines when it comes to their regional planes like their A330 and 777-200 look and feel very old. They seem to focus more on having their international flights have a nice feel and look to them more than their regional flight.
TBF to Korean you were flying on a regional product (intra-Asia) from a secondary non hub airport. I assume Guam is more a leisure destination as well. So the equipment will reflect this.
Jeb's score is 15/25 = 60%. Here is my MODIFIED JEB SCORE (where lounges are not rated when a carrier operates from an outstation where they do not operated their own lounge are are at the whim of the ground handling company operating the lounge): 13/20 = 65%.
I just flew Korean from Kuala Lumpur - Inchon- Ulanbataar and back. The 777ER was the same as yours. I had the steak and it was good but not great. The seat ok the IFE lousy and the service excellent. On their A330 to Mongolia very nice I was surprised for just a 3 hour flight. But all in all I was quite happy from KUL to Inchon.
I know you've been stressing/ worrying/ considering a million times on whether you do the travel part or not but thumbs up buddy. It's always nice to see a bit of where you arrive when you get off the plane. The 'Jeb Score' would've been brilliant if applied. "I found the 'lounge' in the Palace to be very well appointed with great views but when I asked for a glass of champagne and a light snack the staff did give me a strange look so I can only give them 4 stars." "The seat. Well I found the literal throne to be amazing to look at but was disappointed it had no fully flat function, 3 stars" "Entertainment. Colorful, vibrant, but when I tried to plug my Bose QC20's into the drummers drum they didnt fit, 3 stars" "Varied, of a good quality, I would've preferred some more western options but it tasted amazing so 4 stars" "Service well the Korean people were friendly and always happy to help even when I was looking for a restaurant to eat at 5 stars" "So Korea gets a more than decent 19 Stars." Not gonna lie I just made that up on the fly in about a minute but i'm confident it fits and of course it uses my own, somewhat dry sense of humor i'll admit.
That Korean air layout is similar to Saudi Arabian airlines triple seven. They have recently updated their business class seats but still offer their old seats on most airlines. I used to live in Saudi Arabia and all the flight attendants were so nice and offered a amenity kit on every flight even got pajamas that I still have to this day. That Korean air layout is nice but I prefer a more modern new layout I feel most airlines back then had almost the same business class seats and it kinda got it little crowded when putting the blankets all over the floor.
Hi Mr Brooks. I really like this video!! Really informative. May ask with your future videos if you critique Caribbean airlines' transatlantic trip to Trinidad in business Class along with Virgin Atlantic's first class flight to Montego Bay or Air Caraibes from Guadeloupe to France🤔🤔🤔😁😁
With Guam being a leisure destination, it's considered a "poor man's Hawaii" for the Korea and Japan markets. The competition on the route are multiple Korean LCCs.
Thanks for another Korean Air review. I was a little surprised about this one getting a lot lower score. I would certainly agree about the lounge and Guam being a Star Alliance hub. Wow that place looks very dated and in desperate need of a renovation. You can’t go wrong with a bibimbap on the flight. I liked the scenes of Gyeongbok Palace at the end. When are you coming back?
Another great review - candid - well constructed - fair and balanced. Frankly given that for example 12 years ago my friend’s Korean wife showed off her Korean version of a ‘Bimby’ robotic chef and explained some places in the city already had 1000mbps internet speeds - I was expecting the biz cabin to be more in line with say China Airlines - what a shock to see what you presented 🤦♂️ I just booked Biz from Rome to AKL via Beijing on Air China’s Dreamliners (all the way through) and it’s 2-2-2 in biz - BUT here’s the rub - it cost £1700 return - at that price one can discuss trade offs for a 1-2-1 cabin 😎🤪🤣
Shame about the lounge...unlike Korean Air!! Welcome back Jeb. Older aircraft obviously on this flight and 2 x 3 x 2 very outdated. As you pointed out on the Jeb Score Korean can excel on some routes !! Any way you arrived in one piece...reasonably refreshed ...could you get a glass of wine or champagne on this leg ?? Nothing like a Gin and Tonic though !! Well done mate and looking forward to your next flight or travel video !! And they do love a drum in South Korea !!
Until you fly in a Business Class with a 1-2-1 configuration, you simply can’t be completely satisfied. I flew on PAL and Asiana’s A350-900 I’d give both of those a 5/5 and Korean a 3/5. Korean is $400 cheaper from JFK to ICN to MNL than Asiana, but $1000 less than PAL’s JFK to Manila nonstop.
As a Korean myself who use the airline a bit Korean Air's Business class is mediocre at best. First class also seems meh unless you travel in the 747-8i which have fully enclosed suites. I think the seat issues will be addressed over the next few years as the alirline gets new planes and upgrades existing ones (same goes for the absence of wifi). As for food though, this is actually an area that they have been lagging behind and probably will for years to come, as I haven't noticed any change whatsoever for well over a decade. Quality varies from flight to flight, but qunatity is universally lacking imo. Where Korean Air actually shines the most is in economy class. They have generous pitch, and still deploys 9-abreast seating on their 777s (3-3-3). Crew quality is top notch as well. In general, Korean customers and companies care about usefulness and friendliness of customer service far more than the average people from other countries, and that is reflected in flights as well. Truth is, Korean Air customers are mostly Koreans, and they tend to stick to Korean carriers, so they don't really have a chance to see and compare what other airlines have to offer amd give feedback.
I can’t even imagine having to try to hop over my seat neighbor if I had to go to the bathroom in that seating format. At least it wasn’t long-haul Jeb! Footage at the end is very nice. Great review!❤️👍✈️
I think lounge score should only be used if the airline itself are operating the lounge whether solely or jointly with a partner airline. I’m also guessing this was your flight into Seoul to take the first class flight to ATL
Really nice review, I've tried the prestige sleeper and the prestige suites in July from singapore to seoul and on to kansai, ultimately I'd agree on the score for food (had bibimbap too and it was good) and service (the cabin crew are the best and treat you really well) that you give but maybe not the IFE since it was super dated with the latest hollywood blockbuster to be captain marvel and aquaman. Hope that you are able to try the prestige suites though, they are really private with aisle access :)
My experience with third party lounges is mostly poor. Not at all surprised that you found the one in Guam was a big disappointment. By the way, did you catch the "yin-yang" detail in the armrest cup holders?
I think Asian passengers to Guam are middle to lower middle class families who struggle to pay premium class fares, unlike those to Hawaii. It’s understandable for KE to have very mediocre business class product for Guam market.
I always enjoy your reviews Jeb but I fail to understand why you make your viewers click on a link for the menus when you can simply take a minute or two to share the menu. Seems like an inconvenience to me. Enjoyed the added bonus at the end 👍🏻
