This is a brilliant episode, not only for the information and analysis that is done on the destroyed part, but it shows the depth of talent and knowledge that goes into making vehicles as well as in the team at Monro’s. Hearing Nakesha talk on various details, costs and techniques that go into making even one small part- the back vinyl covered plastic trim for instance - made me crave to hear her speak even more on her clearly extensive knowledge. PLEASE, let’s hear more from her in another video maybe just on some of the techniques used in making these expensive seats. Obviously her background work with GM has helped educate her and place her into a senior engineer position. She is wonderful, simply wonderful.
This video is once more showing us viewers the depth of the knowledge and expertise that is behind these videos. It’s making me think back on some of the earlier videos where opinions were expressed by staff and I guffawed, asking ‘How would they know?’, well with these two wonderful presenters, I’ve been put in my place and now respect earlier comments with more reverence, as it were.
Thanks again Nakesha and Tylor.
Um, the guy's name is Tylor.
Tylor
Thanks Nakesha and Tylor for your most interesting and detailed look into the construction of the Rivian seats.
Welcome to the channel Nakesha! Thoroughly enjoyed your talk and look forward to your next presentation. ^_^
Thank you both for sharing your insights and thoughts. Hope you have a lovely weekend! dennis
Thank you so much!
Whenever you bring a new expert on, it is like listening to an episode of 99% Invisible x 1000. The expertise that goes into these items that we use daily is staggering.
This is actually really fascinating. I had no idea of the cost of seats! I think that the center portion is vinyl as well, however.
Yeah, Rivian says their seats are made of vegan leather, so that would be a revelation if they actually used some real leather.
Nakesha did a great job explaining her area of expertise. nice team work.
As we peel into this giant Munro onion, we find an incredibly diverse assemblage of specialists chomping at the bit to part their expertise onto this audience. Pretty impressive to say the least.

really too bad your so concerned with race and gender....
like really
Granted Tylor has great speaker voice, would like to see more speaking time for Nakesha too. None the less, Great content as usual. Thank you guys!
i couldn't agree more!!!!
yep... let her speak and make her points
Another lesson and another brilliant presenter team. I did enjoy that and the detail was incredible.
Great informative video with a story structure well thought out and full of the kind of detail that provides so much added value to the knowledgeable viewers of this channel.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks, I'm a gearhead, and know nothing about seats, so this was very informative.
Well many people say ohh.. the Rivian is so expensive from the basic model.. to all of those people i would highly recommend to watch the Munro series of how the Rivian build these pick-up vehicles and only after that they can have a much clear picture of building costs then we going to see latter how much profit Rivian will gain from selling them to cover the development, assembly & quality expertise costs.. another great example of car that was more expensive to be made by factory than the price was sold for, was the Porsche 959..
Nakesha is so knowledgeable! Had no idea seats were so expensive.
I like your use of the staff to make videos that involves their expertise. I never knew I might like a Korean seat.
Thank you Nakisha and Tyler. Glad to see that several times Nakisha had the work experience to know when and how to diplomatically insert her expertise so as not to be totally over shadowed by Tyler or distract from the presentation.
I'm so glad to see more women in this field. Please have Nakesha more in videos. Please & Thank you!
Will do!
I wish Tylor would have given Nakesha more lead on her section of the talk because what she was talking about was fascinating and I feel like she had so much more to say. I love how she brought tools in to show more exactly what is involved in the construction of the seat. I can tell she has been doing this a long time and has an amazing depth of knowledge. The fact he never ask her if she had anything to add when usually all Munro associates ask that of coworkers in teardown videos was a bit off-putting and disappointing.
I was getting annoyed as he would keep talking about something in her realm, saying 'from what he knows' and giving his long spiel about it and then saying 'is that right'.
He needs to learn to simply say "tell us about this" if he is being primary in the video but is not the primary expert on camera for the subject.
@@curtisbme Exactly! I'm glad you noticed that too.
I noticed as well but she was a bit slow in discussing and I think he was trying to push it along. With more time she would get quicker though.
In our business we use fabric to form concrete. I found the complexities in the fabric, sewing and interface with other materials to be amazing. Thanks so much to you both!
Fascinating, what’s your business, if I may ask?
Thank you both. Great staff at Munro & associates. Loving it all. I hope Sandy is having fun. I'm glad your also liking this twist to your usual work. Your movie stars 🤩🤩
Absolutely agree! Love it
Great video and welcome Nakesha! Give Nakesha more air time next episode!
would really like to hear more from Nakesha on fitting and draw of material systems
Good job on the presentation , especially considering video presentations is not your primary responsibilities. Don't let your nerves get in the way, you both present very well. Looking forward to see you present in the future !!
Love the plus value of having someone to actually ask questions in there. He definitly knew what question to ask, very informative!
You both are very knowledgeable and the episode was great. Something not spoken about much but so important to the vehicles comfort. I always wondered how the ventilation system was integrated. Thank you both for sharing your skill set.
Another great informative, educational, and enjoyable video with you Monro experts.
Glad you enjoyed it
Best commentary I’ve received from this channel in a while. Thx for sharing
Way more interesting than I would have expected. Really nice to hear directly from the subject matter experts. Tylor and Nakesha really did a great job of weaving together their complimentary expertise. I hope we get to hear from them again on another vehicle.
Definitely learned something. Thank you both for doing an excellent job.
Munro puts out a 25 minute video about part of a seat. I'm in. More of these two please.
I’m always impressed with the Talent at Munro!
Thank you!
I want to take this opportunity to compliment all of the leadership at Munro & Associates for compiling such a competent team of self-motivated individuals that willingly give of themselves to share such valuable information to the rest of us not yet employed by you!
Wow, this is a great one. I was ignorant to how much really goes into a seat. Loved this episode. Great work.
Really great that you are including a broader group of people in these videos. Go to the experts.
We take for granted the complexity of the seating, thanks for explaining the assembly methods and material used great video both!
What the heck, how is it that everyone working at Munro is a natural TH-cam presenter? Great video, as always.
if they worked at some fortune company.. they have experience presenting to large audience.. alot of times they have to present to upper management.. whom are not as technical saavy.. so they know they have to dumb it down/drop some of the unnecessary details..
Minivan seat set is more expensive than the powertrain??? Mind blown!
🤯
It’s common, you are talking about 3 row fully equipped seats vs a 20 years old powertrain
Makes sense, comfort and usability are paramount in a minivan. Powertrain is an after thought.
One of my BEST Munro videos - Thank you Seat Team! 🙌
Great to hear!
My name is Eric. I appreciate the call out to look at that seat stitching up close.
You're welcome! 😂
I have had dealings with older jaguars & Rolls Royce seats. Heavy as hell but the technology in these seats is blowing my mind. Especially the air cooling system & lumber control module. WOW we humans have come a long was. The seat is as important as the invention of the wheel. Wheel then seat I recon. Thank you for helping me transist to weird & wonderful inventions.
My seats have no LUMBER controls though...I saw that in the instructions
Well articulated explaination of how the seat is constructed. Good video!
Great video. Nice insights into details. I wish I heard more of the lady, which seems to have so much knowledge. But still you both work great together. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
@1:15 Wow. I knew they weren't cheap but that is stunning to me that the seats would cost more than the power train. Certainly highlights why you folks focus on every aspect of the car with the same level of scrutiny.
Thanks Nakesha and Tylor...
Thanks Tylor and Nakesha for the excellent exposition of the engineering and crafting which has gone into the Rivian seats. This is an object lesson that Rivian understands where it makes sense not to hold back. The seats are the one thing which touches a large percentage of the customer’s body every single time the vehicle is used. Comfortable seats are a great word-of-mouth advertising strategy. I would expect no less in a vehicle which costs the better portion of $100,000.
Love these videos. Eye opening information about cost and materials. Now I'm spoiled for data on any car purchase. Thanks
Damn these expert segments are GOLD!
Nakesha has a lovely calming voice and presence, it was a pleasure to listen to her.
The talent at Munro associate is excellent. This is incredible
I don't think I've ever seen a black person, not to talk a black young lady, analyze on Monroe's channel before, didn't notice it until today. She did a great job! They both did.
Brilliant explanations, very enlightening! Thanks to Munro!
I love seeing more experts on the videos. Respectfully, let Nakesha talk more on the next one. I wanted to hear more of her opinions. Thank you for the content.
It’s amazing to me how labor intensive these seats would be to put together and how they can produce the quantities required at a consistent quality.
5 major seat makers in teh world, account for 50 million seats, outside suppliers that specialize in what they do, is more cost effective, and efficient...tesla doesn't make their own seats, no one does....they may assemble parts of it, it would be really dumb for a car maker to make their own seats and interior components, maybe make their own dashboards and steering wheels, NOT, no such thing anymore as vertically integrated car makers, they gave that all up towards the end of the 60's early 70's..Which is why Mopar is a separate brand, Aldelphi is a spin off of the old GM Delco parts div, all gone separate operations, FOMOCO Parts separate entity, and on and on. thousands of suppliers to car makers tires, seats, wiring harnesses, as seen on tv. Do you think Tesla makes it's own ckt boards, and plastic parts, oy vey
Nakesha bringing "A game". It's always good to hear someone who knows where the final cost is coming from. Labor, materials, transformation, transport etc. Its all about each detail. A pro knows the details and where you can go cheap and cannot. They also know what makes a premium customer experience and long lasting solution. Appreciate the breakdown.
Where were these 2 hiding? I love all the new munrovians recently! Great Video! More Nakesha, Sue, and Tylor!
Good overview on seat assembly processes and cost!
Very informative video. Keep up the good work guys and gals.
Thank you! Will do!
Great video! Its good to see a breakdown and show the quality of the seats Rivian is placing into their vehicles. Well made cars have well made seats!! Hope to see more from these two.
Excellent video as always guys!
Thanks for the informative video.
Great job from you both on this breakdown
I learn so much! Thanks Munro team👍
Our pleasure!
Beautiful video
Really awesome job guys!
These Videos are just amazing. Hearing from different experts at Munro, who each have a different expertise and focus is great! Many of the details are only known to people working in those fields. And, yet, without giving away too much of Munro's secret sauce, all of this information would usually be inaccessible to the interested public.
Great video !!!
Thanks!
Great job Tylor and Nakesha !
Interesting details that shows that you guys are experts 👍
You should probably fact check the "actual leather" comment. Rivian brags about "vegan leather". RJ explained in more detail it was a polymer blend. Sounds like good quality since they convince seat experts it was real leather.
I was thinking the same.
Lot of new faces great to see. I wonder what Munro's headcount was at start of pandemic vs now.
Thanks guys. Learned something new today!
Great job Nakesha Welcome aboard! 👏
Loving all these tear-down videos on the R1T! Can you do a video on the tonneau cover next?
this was very interesting, thank you for sharing the knowledge
Great job guys. I learned so much!!!
Rivian is very vocal about their Vegan (vinyl) seats. It’s right on their website. Are you guys claiming that they are actually using real leather in the seat backs? That’s going to be a bit of a scandal unless the Munro team just can’t tell the difference between real leather and synthetic materials…. Which shows why we never need leather seats.
good content, but gee man, let Nakysha talk some ;)
More office workers making videos!!! well done!!!
Super interesting episode
Thanks
She is really good at explaining everything
Fascinating, I would love to see the mfg process of these seats in its entirety, sowing blows my mind.
This is an interesting change from the normal videos.
WOO WOO WOO !!! GREAT WORK :) :) :)
It's my understanding that all the materials in the seat are non-leather (vegan leather), though chosen for high quality. Can you relook at the materials you think are leather and can you tell the difference by eye?
That is what Rivian has said.
It would be great to see a Nakesha & Carl pairing in a future video
Dude, let her talk. She knows a lot more about the details and what actually happens during assembly.
Literally this ^
Stop interrupting her and talking over her
"I don't know the specifics of this material/process so instead of simply asking the expert next to me to tell you about it, let me tell you everything I think I know and then ask if my guess is correct."
Pretty good. Lot of cool info you both gave us. Would like to have heard about how heated seats work regarding not melting the foam.
the labour component is top of mind
Nakesha 👍🏼 Tylor 👍🏼
Thanks!
At some point Taylor just drowned out Nakesha.
He needs to breathe, let her elaborate on her ideas and not just use her as a crutch when he doesn't know something. Nakesha should have her own video providing her expertise at GM
ikr?
Put a shock collar on him and give her the remote so she can zap him whenever he starts to guess at explaining(/mansplaining?) things that she is an expert in or cuts her off.
I assume he didn't consciously know he was doing it so hopefully feedback here helps him improve his on-camera work and hopefully helps him understand if he is doing this same thing off camera in daily work interactions (as I am willing to bet he does).
Do these solvent glues break down over time or in hot phoenix summers? Trying to figure out why some manufacturers have had issues with sticky melty plastic dashboards while others don’t.
Dashboard plastics is a completely different thing AFAIK. The rubberized ones are especially prone to breaking down. And some degrade even quicker if exposed to common car cleaning products like Armourall.
@@patreekotime4578 Armor All is water based and doesn't break down plastics, you want to stay away from petroleum based products.
Please talk more about the seat frame! Thanks
Seats are way more complicated than I realized. So many layers and pieces that have to fit together well, so a person will be comfortable for extended periods of time. Not to mention seats are expected to hold up against years of wear and tear.
Please do a headrest tear down! That’s all I wanted to see lol so I can customize the yellow accents
10:34. How can I get that piece off of the seat. My hook is loose, need to fix it. Rivian wants to just replace the whole seat. Please help Munro Team
Amazed how complex seat covers are 😮
Excellent vid and very informative!
I see that the Rivian seats are high quality but I don’t like the
No glovebox choice, and the under seat storage seems weird.
It would be difficult to reach under seat and grab multiple items if you couldn’t see what they were,
Especially in the driver’s seat.
🤔 for some of us you can’t have too much storage and especially out of sight 🙂
@@budgetaudiophilelife-long5461-- yeah but don’t misunderstand me, I’m saying the lack of a glove box is the huge mistake.
Trying to make up for lack of a glove-box with under seat storage you can’t even see if you’re seated is a bad idea.
Extra storage is good if it’s extra.
If the only storage you have to put your license, registration, insurance card etc. is under the seat at your, feet that’s a poor decision.
If you like car storage, and you bought a Rivian without a glove box you certainly would not be happy.
@@shortaybrown I put my sunglasses in the seat storage, that's about all it fits as it is "V" shaped. It's easy to get sunglasses out when driving. The center console has plenty of space for license, registration, the manual and plenty of other stuff. Some folks have talked about removing the bluetooth speaker and using that as additional storage. The lack of glove box is odd, but there is so much storage (frunk, under seat storage, center console, under rear driver's side passenger seat, gear tunnel, truck bed and spare wheel well under the truck bed) that there is more than enough space for everything.
@@paulw575 - OK cool. I’m not trying to make fun of the Rivian truck, I like it... I’m glad American auto makers are investing so much into EVs.
I think once they solve the mass production problems associated with that truck, they could sell millions of them. I think it’ll be popular in Europe too because it’s smaller than American full-size pick up trucks and I think it’ll fit on the European roads better.
🙋♂️ I just watched what’s inside family with Zak from Jerry rig and the Rivian has a large Center console for all the stuff that we need just a FYI
Great insights as usual. However the interplay between the two was not as smooth as other episodes. Still great info and enjoyed all of it.
Tylor has been on one or two videos before, and Nakesha hasn't been on camera before. I'm sure given time they'll both become more comfortable on screen. Remember how nervous Ben was back when Mach E teardown started?
Great video! Plenty of nice features, but
curious, how much each competitor's seat weighs? Sandy always says for EVs to save weight. One gram, a day!
I drove an R1T this week and said it had the most comfortable seats of any vehicle I'd ever driven... and now I know why!
Good info, would have liked the girl to have been able to talk a bit more though. Thanks! :)
Astonished how expensive seats are. I’d imagine Munro has some engineering advances to sell!
