I remember when Gem Harvest came out it didn't initially get the most positive reaction, because of the timing: Thanksgiving 2016.
As in, the family holiday immediately after one of the most divisive U.S. elections in history.
A number of fans resented the message of forgiving family you don't get along with because of this, even though the episode was obviously in production way before this happened. Especially since as Katrina says, a lot of people were not experiencing such receptiveness in their own families at the time. It seems like it's gotten received better in retrospect, away from the harsh sting of that even, so I'm glad you guys liked how it was tackled.
Oh I just realized that this set of episodes are next to each other on purpose, to show us how weird it can feel to be brought into a whole different group of people with strange and foreign ways of doing things (Onion's friends), so that we can empathize more with Uncle Andy feeling like everything the gems do is strange and foreign. But even if we're very different and don't always understand each other, we can still be friends/family :)

Back in "Marble Madness" in Season 1, Priyanka (Connie's mom) has a line where she says, "Connie? The Steven Universe boy would like to speak with you. I swear that's not his real name." And I guess she was sort of right ("Universe" is his real name but some people might not think of it that way)?
When the Onion Gang "flashes" that guy with the eyepatch, we can see briefly that he actually has another eye under there. Btw, that's Suitcase Sam, one of the recurring background "boardies".
Also, it's nice to see all the Gems together in one place. It's kinda rare.

I'm a Lapidot shipper, so i loved this episode
Honestly love what they did with Onion. Just another reminder that we all live our own lives, different in every little or every big way. Also, as someone who lives outside of America, I didn't realise Gem Harvest was a thanksgiving episode. But I feel like it was so much more than that too. I'll always be in awe of how they put so much content in every tiny little itty bitty ten minute episode.
The subtitles were wrong, it's not "Well thanks for the barn", it's "Wow thanks for the barn"
Ever since Steven taught Peridot about thanking someone for a gift, she says "Wow thanks"
I like how Onions friends all have names that work together to create something more than the sum of its parts.

I must admit: Onion grown very much as a character after that episode. He still freaks me out, but also warms my heart. And I love how they brought back Steven's green thump, Pumpkin is the best adition to the barn team
