@@ivanelugo Exactly my thoughts. I thought about that line when they were watching the Three Gems and a Baby episode and the stark contrast in Pearl's attitude towards Greg.
Exactly why Blue Diamond took him... she knew this was the superior memento.

Blue's voice actress might be my favourite in the series, she's easily my favorite diamond. And her reveal was SICK. The fact that Garnet saw a future where they all got caught shows that Blue Diamond would remember the rouge Ruby and Sapphire from all the way back then. Also, poor Greg. Just getting caught up in gem stuff when he should’ve just stayed home.

The one nice touch I like about "Three Gems and a Baby" is that in the past, when the gems visited Greg, he offered them tea and Pearl outright refused. But in present day we see how they have grown and Pearl is the one offering tea to Gregg. Just a nice little thing that shows how these characters have matured and reconciled to a degree.
I never really noticed that. I love the attention to detail the show had.

a nice little detail from a religious context, if you noticed greg was in ropes holding steven, while being surround by everyone. Looks a lot like mary in ropes surrounded by everyone in the barn, from the Nativity.
They don't talk about it for a while but, Greg's family situation is...awkward to say the least. Greg just legit left his old life behind to become a rockstar and...well here we are

Why does every 20 minutes episode of Steven universe feels like a whole movie, gem harvest is kinda like a thanksgiving episode. Even though Andi had trouble understanding his new family, the gems still tried to make the most of it.
oh man, I never noticed that in episode 10 Pearl covers her mouth when Steven starts to get upset about her not telling him anything about pink diamond/the palanquin! That's some good, subtle foreshadowing!!
Rose Quartz is a type of gem. It is quite common here in South Africa.

When this episode came out, people seemed to hate Andy. I personally felt really bad for him. It was obvious he wasn't a bad person

People saw him acting kinda racist and immediately hated him like he commited genocide(heh). If a character is kinda racist or is not a perfect parent, fandom will Hate them viciously.
Characters that have flaws are never well received I was on tumblr when this aired and the amount of exhausting melodramatic thinkpieces and people mad at Rebecca for having the audacity to have a character be rude was insane.
Yeah this episode had some really unfortunate timing. It aired like, RIGHT after the 2016 election, so I think in real life a lot of peoples’ relatives had just revealed being, just… Unfathomably bigoted and vitriolic. So an special about connecting with your racist uncle didn’t really hit for a lot of viewers lol. I think in 2023 it’s a lot easier to see what the episode is going for.

I think now you’re catching on to one of the funniest things the writers did on this show, which was to name the inconsequential episodes things like Hit the Diamond and Gem Harvest, and the super important story episodes things like Lion 3: Straight to Video and Steven’s Dream. They didn’t follow this rule ALL the time-just often enough that it would still work on most fans lol. I remember all the excitement and fan theories leading up to the thanksgiving special… priceless.

Garnet remembered how she made baby Steven cry by unfusing in front of him, so she kept her being a fusion a secret until he grew up a little! This is why I feel like Garnet is the best mother figure than Pearl and Amethyst. (Idek why I said amethyst she just seems like the fun auntie.)😂
and garnet is pretty much an embodied model for a healthy parent relationship, whereas pearl was too attached to someone she lost and amethyst was too distant from anyone who could love her. garnet knows how to nurture and care for other people while meeting her own needs. i wonder if it'd be too far of a stretch to compare steven seeing garnet unfuse to watching your parents get divorced lmao
I absolutely adore how nonchalant Lapis is. She's somehow so aloof and disengaged, but also mellow and easy going, yet so causally chaotic. She's such a chill menace... Lapis and Peridot really are perfect for one another
the reveal of Blue Diamond has to be one of the most tenses scenes in the entire series, the way with how somber Blue Diamond sounds and knowing how ruthless Yellow Diamond is we're on our toes knowing how scary Blue Diamond is, but then we see the slow reveal that she isn't like Yellow Diamond but here actions are still scary

He was happy, and his powers are all about that feeling stuff, and as a baby, this is the way his power appears.
i feel like the steven baby episode was the first time i really thought about the situation like that. losing the love of your life to bring new life into the world. it's a uniquely difficult situation. from the moment steven was born, it was just greg raising him. and then he has to also deal with the fact that steven is part gem, so that poses even more challenges and there's no guides for raising a half-gem.
I really like how that episode questioned this one thing and we got an answer so much later we even forgot that this is a thing.

It's possible that holidays like Halloween simply don't exist in the Steven Universe canon. It's never mentioned as far as I recall, and Andy even says "some kind of candy-giving holiday" as a comparison when yelling at Greg in Gem Harvest.

did you know Rebecca Sugar (the creator) based steven in her brother, who has the same name! The three main gems (garnet, amethist and pearl) are meant to represent versions of herself while taking care and living with her sibling. just a cute curiosity 😁😁

Remember the idyllic perception Peridot had of Yellow Diamond? She thought that Yellow was logical and that she would listen to her ideas to terminate the Cluster and put the resources of Earth to good use without disrupting the native life. Well... it's the same thing with Blue Diamond. Blue is not really the way she is showed in this episode. That is just the result of thousands of years of grieving. After all, it must not be forgotten that Blue almost caused Ruby to be shattered just because she fused accidentally with Sapphire. The Homeworld Gems are educated to adore their Diamonds and to only see their virtues and never their flaws: like Yellow Diamond being the strong and logical commander of the Gem army or Blue Diamond being merciful and compassive. They are that, but that doesn't mean they can't act the other way.

I love that this show doesn't shy away from showing negative emotions. at all. steven is usually a happy and upbeat guy, but there's these moments where he gets very upset and angry and blows up. and every time it hits you like a sack of bricks, but it never feels out of character. everyone has a breaking point, and he's always got good reason to be upset and angry when it happens.
and idk i personally love it sm as someone who grew up relating to steven so much, im very calm and patient but there are things that will set me off. it's not always sunshines and smiles. that's real stuff. AND negative emotions are not bad. and i appreciate steven universe for showing that.
There are several gems that go by one name .... Lapis Lazuli , Smokey Quartz, Rose Quartz, Blue & Yellow Diamond .... Lapis is prolly the bext example though. I love how different Blue is compared to Yellow. Blue is .... emotional while yellow is authoritarian. For what is coming up next .... buckle up.

To show how different the SU world is from our world: there's no mention of Halloween ("some candy-giving-out-holiday!") or Thanksgiving and it's not South Korea, but KOREA.

In SU all the cuarzs in general have the warrior role, Amatists, Rose Cuarzs...All fighters and guards. And yes, in the episode of Garnet's origin Blue Diamond was inside her palenquin. The show and the crew were from USA but the animators' team specifically were from South Korea I think.

Honestly, i really like Gem Harvest, ‘cause I felt like it just dealt with something that this Show usually didn’t deal with, which is Steven’s Human-Side of his life, which is why I appreciate Andy.
Speaking of which, I didn’t realize the Gap between Andy’s Introduction Episode and the Episode he showed up again, was just one Episode, man he came back quick.
Anyway, it seems like you’re reaching a very interesting Arc now, I will love forward to see what you thought of it.

- The "Little Green Man" mask with antlers is a reference to the nature god Cernunnos
- In “Three Gems and a Baby” is not only a play on the movie “3 Men & a Babby”, but there are references to Christianity & Christmas like:
- Both Jesus & Steven is born in an unconventional way
- The 3 Crystal Gems are like the 3 Wise Men visited baby Jesus with gifts.
- Baby Steven is taken into an unconventional place to be looked after with Steven in a van = manger for Jesus
- Greg had a blue cloth while carrying Steven which has a bit of a reference to Mary
- Blue Diamond is voiced by Lisa Hannigan and Irish musician but also voices Bronagh in “Song of the Sea” movie
- The movie which Steven & Greg are watching at the start is about a blue alien with a spaceship bearing three diamond symbols who abducts a cow is a foreshadowing to the episode
- During their tour in Korea they passes through an animation studio where Greg notices an animator working on his design for this episode & model sheets
I know it would be difficult for you guys to react to Steven Universe music because of copyright issues, but it would be kinda cool if one day y’all would react to the Steven Universe extended theme song. It’s a small short that is an extension of the show’s new intro that appeared around when Jasper showed up. (Also it would be cool to see a Steven Universe pilot reaction)
Gem Harvest: At the time, it was believed that this was the Crewniverse's response to Donald Trump and his campaign rhetoric...since the episode came out just after the 2016 election and each episode takes almost a year to make from concept storyboard to broadcast, it seemed unlikely, however the controversy over Trump had been going on since the summer of 2015, so it's not outside the range of possibility.
Three Gems and a Baby: There was a theory going around that Greg wasn't tanned or sunburnt, but was permanently "pinked" when Rose megapoofed for the last time to give birth to Steven. I didn't give it much thought one way or another until this episode: in Lion 3, shortly before Steven was born we saw that Greg had an ordinary skintone, but just a few months later (and in winter no less) he has his familiar "farmer's tan", so 3GAAB pretty much confirms the theory for me.
There have been several Gems already on SU who have double names besides Rose Quartz: Lapis Lazuli, Crazy Lace, Smoky Quartz, Rainbow Quartz, and of course the different Diamonds.
Steven's Dream: At the time, I posted that whatever happened to Pink Diamond, it happened on Earth and not on Homeworld or some other Gem colony. There had been hints that Pink Diamond was not entirely loathed by the Crystal Gems (things like Pearl continuing to have the Pink Diamond insignia on her flight suit in Space Race and Back to the Barn), so even if there had been a conflict between Rose Quartz and Pink Diamond perhaps PD was beginning to come around to Rose's view, and that would have been treason to the Diamond Authority.
Blue Diamond's quite unexpected appearance and attitude following Garnet's account of the grim figure in The Answer's flashback told me two things. One, Garnet is not the most reliable narrator; and two, this was the first inkling of how SU might end with Steven successfully saving Earth and making peace with the Diamonds. The facts that Blue Diamond was torn about the presumed impending destruction of the planet that once belonged to her beloved Pink Diamond, that she was willing to come "heart to heart" with a mere organic creature and perform what she thought was an act of mercy for Greg, indicated that the Diamond Authority wasn't necessarily united in thought concerning Earth and its inhabitants, so that even if Yellow Diamond was an uncompromising ideologue Blue Diamond might not be and so perhaps a deal could be made, especially if it was along the lines of what Pink Diamond would have wanted.
Speaking as someone who isn’t on speaking terms with practically anyone blood related to me, I think there’s likely a very good reason Greg chose to cut out his family, live on his own in a van, and not keep in touch. That’s not a decision that someone who comes from a healthy, loving, supportive family does.
looking back, I'm actually pretty sad they never did a Halloween special with a scary corrupted gem or something, SU perfectly nailed the aesthetic of the holidays it DID show ans it's so sad they skipped halloween

I think they don't need to do that since there are already tons of scenes that are so scary if we're talking about a child's vision
(Examples: lapiz lazuli and Stevens dream where's she's like a fountain. The hospital scene with Connie and Steven fighting the glued shattered gems. The Friedman's costume becoming alive and trying to forced eat the beach city people.)
I convinced my new girlfriend to watch SU with me (I own the full box set and have watched every episode multiple times) and experiencing her watching it for the first time is exactly why I love you guys experiencing it for the first time. Watching you guys grow into it, slowly learn to appreciate it, love it, and then NEED to see what happens next makes me happy. I love watching people watch and love something I love with all my heart. Watching you have theories and try to guess what happens next reminds me of my first watch when it aird and trying to figure out that was going on. Love you guys!

Oh god you know what I just noticed? In 3 gems and a baby, Greg’s hairline is receding, but he isn’t bald yet, BUT in the early episodes (maybe even the pilot?) we see a picture of Greg and Rose together. Greg is already bald in that picture. Just a minor continuity mistake, but I’ve only just realized it lol.
