  • In 2002 the BBC broadcasted a very interesting documentary on siblings in pop music. Of course it all had to start with the very first and most influential brother act in music history, The Everly Brothers.
Included here are interviews with Albert Lee, Phil's son Jason, Cliff Richard and The Proclaimers.
Please visit our Everly Brothers International facebook page and our website : www.everly.net for the latest info on the World's No. 1 singing duo !

It's a shame that two of the sweetest voices of our Lifetime are remembered so often for the turmoil. As someone who has witnessed family members working together every day I feel the Everly Brothers did a phenomenal job of avoiding that breakup.
They paid the price for their fame but they proved they were winners and I am thankful for that and for them. God Bless the Everly Brothers...
    Soundtrack of my youth 🎼🖤

Du sagst es. So junge Leben ohne Chance auf eigene Entwicklung. Für mich sind sie ganz besonders. Und ich bin dankbar für Phil's wundervolle Stimme

They were both at fault at Knotts Berry Farm. Don shouldn’t have come on stage inebriated but Phil shouldn’t have left the venue either. They still had two more shows to do that night. Don straightened himself out, had something to eat, got sober, and thought he could do the next two shows on his own. He “auditioned” for Bill Hollingshead, the promoter at KBF and the shows went ahead. By all accounts, Don did two good shows.

So I have heard. However Sam McCue, their guitarist at the time, commented that Don didn´t audition apparently.

@@v-g-z3689 I’m only relating what I’ve read. I wasn’t there so I don’t know what really happened. I’ve come to the conclusion with Knotts Berry Farm that there seems to be multiple versions of what happened that night and everyone thinks that their version is the correct one.

@@cak813 Yeah, I´ve noticed that too, I´ve been trying to figure out what exactly happened for quite a while but gave up in the end and was satisfied with the general idea.

@@v-g-z3689 I’ll tell you one thing I hate to see… that Phil smashed his guitar to bits. Just not true. He did put it down with a bit of a thump but the guitar sustained only minor damage and was easily repaired.

@@cak813 I agree, that seems to be the most common myth. Hell knows where I heard or read it, but someone said the same as you, that Phil didn´t smash it to bits, just put it straight down that it broke but in a way that it could be repaired. Imagine, some people even say that he smashed it over Don´s head.. Nonsense of course, and judging by Phils normal behavior I find it unlikely that he completely freaked out. I think he just had enough, put his guitar down a little heavy and "ran" from the scene to get some much needed distance and a pack of cigarettes, that´s all. I can very much relate to that by the way.

He didn’t , Don asked him, plus Phil knew and was cool with it.
