I just want you to know - this release may be one of the most important collections perhaps in all of emulation. Thank you for your work and efforts and I hope you are able to continue to bring this to people for generations.
no mate... we thank YOU and your amazing coworkers for giving another gem to us. all your eXo projects were a step forward to perfection...... now let's just enjoy your exceptional work and relive our childhood.......
Hey eXo, just wanted to say how much of a legend you are. Those of us that care about preservation are in awe of this project and your continued dedication to it. Truly, from the bottom of my heart, thanks so much to you and the team. Make sure you have a good, long rest!
I've been really looking forward to this release! Thank you and all contributors for all the time and effort put into this project!
Speaking on the nostalgia of the games boxes segment... it might be worth looking into re-creating 3D game boxes for these games. Now that LaunchBox/BigBox has a recent new feature where you can rotate and look at game boxes in 3D, this could be an awesome extension to the project. And going forward, these could be implemented in future VR projects that put you in a room that reflects the time period when these DOS games were new, and you can "hold" the original boxes. This would be the next best thing.
There is one currently working called EmuVR that works with consoles games that lets you pick up the cartridges and boxes. Not sure if there is a way to add eXoDOS to it
@@purplemage Yes, I've used EmuVR... this (or something similar in the future) is what I had in mind. But even with Quest 3 showing how cool mixed reality can be, and how much potential it has, I can only imagine how cool it would be to be able to pick up the original shape big box of the game, or even the books and magazines using more mature MR & VR tech down the road.
I really appreciate you mentioning how dumb ratios can be on private trackers. I spent a good amount of time trying to get my Pleasuredome ratio high enough to get some of your early releases back when they were still in volumes, and in hindsight it was so silly
Thank you so much for everything. This pack means a lot to me and I'm so thankful for all the work you guys put in. I've supported the project in the past and will definitly buy the physical release once its out. Following these videos in anticipation of Version 6 has been a blast. I can't wait for the German Language Pack. So excited. All the best to you.
Thanks to all who contributed to the Project. Just started the torrents. In 2.5 days from now i'll be a happy DOS user. Again that is. Looking forward to the physical release.
Thanks to you I can put my entire childhood in a small box and show it to my kids, bit by bit. Thank you!
BIG big thanks for all this hard work and all the community that make this release possible! Long life to the eXoDOS project !
Thanks for putting in so much hard work on Exodos 6. It's been clear to see the effort that has gone into the artwork for the all releases until now. Maybe make a page on your website to really showcase the art from the earlier releases. I'm already missing seeing that beautiful exodos 5 artwork, but I'm also looking forward to seeing your new exodos 6 box. Thanks again for what you do.
The hard work paid off, man. Thank you for all that you and your team do for strangers like us...
Just a few comments. First this is really amazing. I've been avoiding DOS emulation like the plague due to issues in the past (and just being too lazy) but this... this I love. Second running it off a NAS and using symlinks is not an issue (networking has come a long way since the old coax days), however I agree that every network is a snowflake. Some people may have a decent hardwired network with 10gig interfaces etc, and will be able to run everything over their network, then some people are trying to connect using an old Netgear sitting in a basement and trying to connect over wifi. I have a decent NAS and a pretty decent wifi6 network with excellent throughput and very low latency and even I would rather pay a little extra for an external hdd. No solution will ever be perfect and if you do not have the technical ability to modify or troubleshoot on your own then keeping it as close to the recommended setup will save you a lot of anguish.
Holy, eXo is even more based than I thought! Thanks for all your projects, dude.
This is a new find for me and I am amazed by your work! Thank you very much, will be supporting this project from now!
Great job, gona buy V6 to support you.
First of all, thank you Exo for this amazing project! I grew up on these games so bringing back those memories in such a convenient form is an invaluable feat.
That said, I can't seem to find the Blade Runner there which really confuses me as it clearly falls in that eXoDos timespan and also is a very significant release. This makes me it's not an unintentional omission, however I didn't find any mention of it anywhere. If anyone satisfies my curiosity in this manner I'll be grateful.
V6 is fantastic. I love the MediaPack especially. Thank you eXo for your amazing work. You are the DOS hero.
Thanks for what you do! Was happy to send you a donation.
Can confirm about how helpful the Discord staff are. If you've got a sensible question, people will tend to chime in with a useful answer! I was very pleasantly surprised by this.
i just found out about the project, many thanks for your hard work, it's exactly what i'd love to have as a teenager
Sir, you are a hero in my book. I am so excited to check this out.
For the box experience you could have something like New Retro Arcade: Neon with haptic feedback gloves. That could also create a retro computer environment. It's fun to speculate on what could be done with unlimited resources.
I'm in awe of what has been accomplished. The infrastructure and groundwork you and your team have built is inspiring.
Oh man i am really thrilled about exodos 6. The Download of the full version is finished as the german Language pack is. At the Moment i am backing it up as a big 7zip file 😂 (to save it on another drive) and when its finished (about 7 hours) i am finaly click the bat file to see all my childhood memorys like GTA, Eurofighter 2000, C&C, Pizza Tycoon etc. thanks Exo!!!!
Thank you for everything you have done eXo! You and your team rock!
eXo thank you and your team for all the hard work you've put into this gorgeous enterprise!
Sounds like you've really put in the work here. I'm sure you're about to get slammed with attention. Thanks for building this. It there's anything we can do (other than seeding 😂) please let me know.
Thanks to you and your entire team. You guys are one of a kind!
Just learnt about yourself and your project you sir are a gentleman and scholar 🎩
No sir, thank YOU. When I was about to buy v5, you came with v6, and I will support it as soon as physical box is avaliable.
I would love to buy the boxes from all earlier versions...
I think it's your best rant so far, what a legend 😂
Must be quite the emotional rollercoaster on a day like this
This is a torrent I'll keep seeding undefinitely, especially if it feeds back to the light version.
It is steadily picking up more seeds, should be finished by tomorrow. Very excited to discover the new features.
About the physical release, i don't think it was a mistake to delay it if it needs more refining. Having high standards is appreciated, and maybe the digital release will reveal minor issues that need tweaking and be beneficial to the physical one.
It is also exciting to think about what other preservation projects the backend refresh could allow
Many thanks to everyone involved in the project 🙏🎉🥳
Man... 69 comments... I hate to destroy that, but thank you for your work here! I have added your torrent and will be helping seed your work when it is done! Cheers!
Omg! I just found your page, and I am so frigging excited! Thank you for doing this! I've been struggling my whole life to get all my old games to work one at a time...😢 this is frigging amazing! I've been looking for an exo like product for a very long time! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! LITERALLY MADE MY YEAR! 😂 Much love Bru, if there is anything I can do to get involved in this project I would love to help out. I'm a long time dos gamer, grew up playing and beating all the greats if you need another tester or really anything I am able to do to help 😀
I suggest joining our discord channel. You may very well be able to find a way to help as I post all my current status and projects there.
I am SO glad I found your work!!! Thank you!!!
Thanks for all your hard work. Looking forward to using the software.
I am not part of your community but I've been seeding the thing for years now. Didnt even watch your vids, it just seemed like the right thing to do. Thank you for your work.
Love the vision with the exo-framework! ExoCommodore anyone? :)
Last week, I stumbled upon eXoDOS when a captivating thumbnail caught my attention, boasting "Over 7000 DOS games." This piqued my interest for a specific reason - back in 2001, when I began collecting ROMs, I was highly curious about old computer games, and came to the conclusion that these were going to be dead games due to the disorganization and additional effort required to make them functional. The thumbnail alone made me wonder if this was there was a solution.
I then came across this video, download the parts of eXoDOS that seemed essential, and attempted to manually make it work myself. As I listened to this video. I decided to move on, forget about this for now, but 21:38 was very informative, I learned about the lite version, and proceeded with that.
It's truly an amazing project. I cannot put it into words. Even if I never really played DOS game, this was an amazing solution to a problem.
Thank you for all your hard work.
Incredible work. We all bow to your excellence. Can you try to get the game Ripper 1996 in there? lol
I will totally seed for as long as I can. Trying to play through all of version V4 at the moment.
First of all thank you very much! I have a problem installing Launchbox. I get the following message during installation even though my system is 64bit "This machine is not reporting itself as 64 bit. LaunchBox, the front end, will only run on a 64 bit machine." Therefore, at the end of the installation process, Launchbox is unfortunately not installed? Maybe someone knows what to do and can help me.
This is the most amazing thing since sliced bread . Well that and KFC.... WOW .
This is just incredible! A virtual museum! :D Awesome!
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!❤❤❤
I can't put in words how much respect I've got for this man! What a legend! ❤
I'm currently shopping for an SSD just for this, lol!
Thank you!!
Hey Exo, just want to share my appreciation for all the work you've done in the preservation of DOS games. I have the same philosophy as you in every way.
Also, your site seems to have the full torrent but I presume the lite version isn't available yet?
Apologies for the late reply, but it is there now. I put it up a few weeks back, likely shortly after this comment.
Thank you so much for your extraordinary work! This is amazing!
Question : can I integrate this into a already installed launchbox setup pretty painlessly?
Thank you eXo and everyone else involved in this release! Does anyone know how much space is required, for both the full release and media downloads, would be all unpacked and installed? Looking to buy a dedicated SSD drive just for this and would like to have a complete install build...
Phil sent me. So happy to hear about this project.
Thanx for your and your team's incredible work and I'm looking forward to your future videos.
PS: I can't find any status info of the GLP - whether in a Readme nor in your Wiki. I guess it couldn't be finished for the v6 release. Or did I overlooked something? :)
It is still being worked on. But will be done fairly soon.
Holy fucking shit! This project sounds about too cool not to try. I've bought bunch of oldies from GOG, but even them have shitty scans, poorly configured dosbox versions etc. I absolutely need to get this pack when I have time and space for it. Thanks. Definitely going to get 👍👍
This is awesome, I am in my late 50's and retailed PC Games in the 80's & 90's. So many memories. Anyway the only issue i am having is with games running the 3dfx chip, they do not run full screen. It looks like native resolution which on a 70" screen renders it unplayable to my old eyes... Have I missed a setting in the config? Really hope this gets an answer. Thanks again so much eXo. All the best from a boomer who remembers!
heya exo. I was wondering if there is a way to set up the volume for all games? Every time I launch a game it is at max volume. Or is adding a MIXER line in the bat or config file the only way to customize the volume?
Thanks.
Question for you. If one owns Launchbox Premium. Is there a BigBox theme available for the media content aspect? Or is this something that may be in the works? Much respect, I appreciate all of the hard work you and your team does to bring back this Nostalgic media. Seeding for a long time! :)
What are you asking exactly?
There are tons of themes available for launchbox on their forums. All of that is independent from exodos. It won't /shouldn't be bundled in either as the project is already astronomical in size, and some don't run well on older hardware
@@deadnburied666 I think @sinistr0n is asking if there is an official "eXoDOS" theme.
2:32 "Delivery Optimization".
Exodos has "Dracula In London" manual containing hunter card info. I searched for it for close to 20 years and got nothing. How did they got hold of it is still shocking.
cool!
Congratulations on another breakthrough in the development of the project and I’m damn glad about the new version. However, I would like to describe one small problem - the game "Shattered Steel" has corrupted files both in the folder and in the disk image. These are empty mission bot files in "WORLD_2" folder. I hope this can be fixed in future updates. Either way, this is top notch work and you and your team are absolutely awesome.
Thank you for the heads up. I'll look into this and assuming we find this to be an issue and fix it, then it will be in the first update pack.
@@RetroeXo Excellent thank you. In theory, these files do not affect the operation of the game, but on certain missions in the second world no enemies appear, which to one degree or another makes them impassable. One example of such files can be found in the following path "\INTRPLAY\SSTEEL\WORLD_2\MISS2\". These are files with names from "0BOT.DAT" to "9BOT.DAT". I checked these files with files from another image and they are not empty there. I hope the description is not very intrusive😂
@@mangamer5166 We have verified the issue and fixed the files for the next update. Thank you very much for pointing this out
@@RetroeXo Wow, awesome😎
@@RetroeXo I would like to express my gratitude for updating the collection, however, I have a stupid question about Shattered Steel. Should the corrected version already be in this update or will it be part of the updater?
Great work and thank you and your colleagues for all the time and money you spent on this amazing project. I just wanted to ask if there is gonna be a separate and updated torrent ONLY for ScummVM games. So far, from your readme file, you are saying that some games have the option to be played on ScummVM apart from being played with various versions of DosBox. So, with that being said, you are kinda implying that you have also included ScummVM games in the eXoDOS v6 torrent. However, i am not currently finding any eXo/ScummVM directory in your torrent directory - file outline. Also, your green CD icon that leads to the page with your various projects seems that it isn't updated. Thank you very much again!!
you mean... eXoScummVM? Yep, you can find it on the website =) A new version will be coming soon.
But yes, you can play DOS games that are supported by ScummVM in eXoDOS as well. When you launch those games, you are given the option between dosbox and scummvm.
@@RetroeXo Well, i kinda mean that eXoScummVM is really ScummVM games with rebranding. Right? At the end you will always play ScummVM games with eXoScummVM. Thank you very much for your response and i am looking forward into getting the new seperated updated torrent for the ScummVM games!! 😛😛
Hello eXo, thanks for this incredible amount of work! I just bought the Anbernic RG405V that runs on Android 12 (I will use GammaOS to improve speed). Will eXoDOS run on it ? Launchbox is available on Android. It would be so amazing to have my MS-DOS library ready to play on a portable device...
Hi @eXo, after deleting everything associated with eXoDOS 5, my install of eXoDOS 6 plus the media pack seems to have gone okay, but I don't have any of the sortable sub-categories (3dfx games, for example). Sorry for the question, but how do I enable these? Thanks again for everything!
Is there an easy way to donate to you (like with paypal or something)?
I'd love to contribute. When I stumbled upon exodos 5 I was completely blown away.
I already had found some rompacks integrated into DFend, and I really appreciated that, but exodos 5 was just another beast, close to perfection.
Thanks a lot for all the hard work and best to you and your team.
//edit// I can't find the donate button you're mentioning in the video on your site
Hey there! Thanks for pointing this out. The donation box ended up getting lost when I updated the website, and I didn't notice until now. I've fixed it.
www.retro-exo.com/exodos.html
Unfortunately paypal refuses to allow donations for this project.
Either way, thank you for your interest in the project =)
installed.
exo, is there any way I can purchase exoDOS version 5 physical (or version 4)?
@eXo I have a question, when it comes to the MEDIA PACK.. Can I download just the Soundtrack and add it to the content folder? Or do I need to download all 165GB! :/ - thank you
you can grab only the parts you want :)
@@RetroeXo Fantastic, cheers dude!
I got the whole pack and dropped it into the root of an external USB Drive.
How do I go about integrating this to my pre-existent Launchbox setup?
Do I run setup from the external drive and then copy over some folders to Laucnhbox? If so, which ones?
Yeah - need advice on this too.
well... trying to get this running on an older rig with no dedicated GPU. Launcher won't run :/
Do I need a dedicated GPU to run exoDOS?
AS a person with ADHD and being old ... and spending countless hours trying to find a game and downloading it just to find out it dont work ...aaaarg.....
Any idea when the videos will be available?
the DOS snap shot videos? They are packed in already. At least, all the ones that were already done
@RetroeXo Thank you. I dont see a file labled snapshot or videos. Which file are they in? Are they in the main pack or the media pack?
@@Garretts_Channel_1 did you run the install yet? They are extracted after install to the launchbox videos\ms-dos\ folder
@RetroeXo I don't currently have the space necessary for the entire project, but was looking to check out the video snaps and wanted to see of I could just grab those specifically for now. Thank you sir.
Where can I access the discord?
Easiest method would be to go to the website
www.retro-exo.com/community_M.html
And click the Chat Rooms section
Any ETA on Exodos lite?
It is out. Has been out =)
Just haven't had time to make any videos as I've been releasing new projects! This week coming up I am off though, so I plan to devote some time over here.
Anyone else stuck at 94%? The torrent has moved in days
Pay yourself back, bro! Last thing anyone wants is for you to get yourself in a bind.
What, no box smell included? What is this, amateur hour?
Awesome dude! I’ve got about 10 bithamer invited if you need one.
